Petition
« on: August 03, 2008, 07:49:07 AM »
With the growing numbers of wounded personnel repatriated to the UK and with continued growth in medically discharged personnel since the Falklands war to current conflicts and operations, our service men & women and veterans of previous operational service are owed the best medical care possible.

The existing facilities are falling short and the NHS are not meeting the needs of veterans who still need treatment for their service related conditions. A dedicated Military & Veterans Hospital will greatly help resolve this National scandal since the complete closure of our military hospitals that has proved to be total folly.

A better solution would be to withdraw fromthe pointless carnage of Iraq and Afghanistan.

And Iraq remains off the news radar,as it has done for some months

The services would still need dedicated hospitals because their injuries will always require specialised treatment.
Not that long ago all three services had a number of hospitals exclusively to treat their own personnel and service families. In emergencies they could be and were called upon to help out the NHS. They were funded entirely by the services out of their own defence budgets and were staffed by service nurses and doctors. They were excellent but once again the government saw easy money in shutting them down and selling off the sites.
All part of the great betrayal of the armed forces. If you want people to be prepared to fight for you then you have to look after them ~ FFS Alfred the Great recognised that but Blair and Brown did not.

I agree but do these e-petitions actually get anything done? I'm not aware of any change of government policy as a result of a petition (I'm willing to be corrected though)
