New equality rights in workplace come into force

New rules aimed at banning discrimination by employers, covering areas such as age, disability and pay, have come into force.

The Equality Act covers many workplace areas and draws nine separate pieces of legislation into a single Act.

Equalities Minister Theresa May says it will now be easier for firms to comply with anti-discrimination rules.

The only people that are going to gain from this are lawyers... how on earth did this get through parliament...?

I particularly like the bit that says that a potential employer is not allowed to ask any questions pertaining to an applicants health ~ even if their condition makes it impossible for them to carry out the work.

"So you want to be a policeman do you? ~ Well I'm not sure that the white stick will go with the uniform but we mustn't let that get in the way of your suitability for the task"

Re health - all the application forms I keep filling in, request info about disablity (real or percieved), special needs, number fo days sick in last 2 or 3 years.
As I haven't been working I haven't missed any working days!
