Title: Utility Wars
Post by: Miss Demeanour on November 24, 2011, 08:27:10 AM
I received my online gas bill this morning.

£485 !!!!!!!! ( for August to Nov)

I nearly fell off my duvet .

After having my boiler replaced a few months ago I thought it might be more cost efficient.

So I went through the bill and they took an actual reading of the meter on the 22nd November. It bore no resemblance to the meter reading I was looking at  noooo:

So I rings them up.

Your reading is way off I tell em.

"I'm sorry madam , this was an actual reading and not an estimated one ".

"So it says on the bill but I have just examined it myself and it is nearly a thousand units out " I offer up as a fact

"I'm sorry madam, that would seem unlikely, these are trained operatives that collect the data"

Banghead Banghead Banghead ( how difficult can it be to read numbers )

I asked if they could send someone else out to verify this then if they didn't believe me and even offered to take a picture of the reading and send it to them , with a copy of the days newspaper if that helped .

I then asked why most of the time if a customer sends their own reading in they are happy to accept this as fact but now I am trying to offer the same they are questioning this. They state this is because one of their staff have taken an 'actual' reading and therefore that is what they must go by.

So I am getting even more peeved now and asked brick head if they would like to check through my previous usage bills and can verify that I have never had a bill this high for any 3 month period which would seem to support my position. I will need to transfer you to discuss this they suggest.

They will respond to me in 48 hours  cussing: cussing: cussing:

As if by magic ..in today's news

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15865766 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15865766)

British Gas has said it is simplifying its tariffs after acknowledging a lack of public trust in the energy industry.

Managing director Phil Bentley told the BBC his company "had not made it easy for customers".

As a result, he said all customers will be able to choose between two tariffs - variable and fixed - and benefit from more transparent bills.

I note there is no comment on accuracy though  whistle:
