Title: BT Infinity
Post by: Miss Demeanour on December 04, 2011, 08:42:47 PM
Has anybody here transferred over to this and is it really much faster ?

I am already with BT Broadband and they keep sending me notifications asking if I want to transfer, promising me a world of speed etc . It won't mean much difference in the monthly bills but does require a £25 transfer set up costs fee etc .

Is it worth it ?

Generally speaking you should expect a faster connection with an optical fibre than you can achieve over the old copper wires that your telephone is connected to.

Try -

to see what you are currently getting and some options.

Zactly .... but it all depends on whether BT will replace all the wires in your local exchange, those from the exchange to your router and for that matter those that feed into the exchange. I can't see them doing that for £25.  noooo:

Tell me about it  ::) .   We don't have gas because the developers in the 90's decided against the cost of piping it throughout a 19thC listed building, we don't have cable TV etc because the cable Co.s at the time thought we weren't in the right demographic... and yet I can see and virtually shout at the H of P from my roof  Shrugs:

Praps Miss D could run a cable over from her house. With her lickle pumpy thighs she'd be there in no time and you could give her a rub down before she runs back

At what point does the optical fibre (fibre optical) stop?

I was talking to an acquaintance the other night who is ex BT (early retirement) and he reckoned it would run to the BT cabinet on the road and then use existing copper wiring into your house / flat / whatever. It's hardly going to be a profitable programme if they have to re-wire the premises as well?  rubschin:

That's right - FTC (fibre to cabinet).
Virgin have fibre running along the road and then run what looks like co-axial to the house.

    The cabinet's only 100m down the road, max. So Infinity could be an option come April 1.

Warning message from BT
"We will be upgrading your local exchange.
Start of upgrade is planned for 18.00 hrs on Thursday when you can expect the exchange to be down for a short while. Once we have restored service you may experience difficulties for a few days as the work progresses.
Please try to use your broadband throughout the upgrade as this will aid the new equipment to self-adjust"

WTF?  angry041:

 Banghead Banghead Banghead

First they said March 31st 2012  -  never happened  ::)
Then they said December 31st 2012  -  that never happened either  ::) . According to the site:
http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/where-and-when/
they're accepting orders... but still no date. It's taking longer than they thought, allegedly  ::)
