I've just left Snoopy looking decidedly hacked off with life. After yesterday's debacle, we got up at stupid o'clock, having been instructed to report back to Ward 8 at 7.30am. Neither of us could imagine how Ward 8 might have acquired an extra bed between 5pm on a Sunday night and 7.30am on a Monday morning, unless they were expecting to lose someone. S rang the ward who indeed had no new bed so we were sent to Ward 4 instead. It was rather a long walk and while he sat down to recover, I introduced us to the rather dense looking girl who claimed to be the ward sister. "Mr Snoopy?" she said. "Isn't there someone famous called Mr Snoopy??"
"Yes, this is he," I replied. She was overcome. A "Robin" came to see us. He was older than God and introduced himself: "Hello Fido , I'm Jimmy."
"Hello, Jimmy, I'm Snoopy," said Snoopy. Jimmy continued to call him Fido for some time but kindly directed us to "Arrivals". They assured us that S was first on the list and sure enough, Jimmy appeared in Arrivals at 7.50 with a surgery gown and pair of paper knickers. I left him to it.
S and I conversed via text and later phone until approximately 11.45am, by which time he was fed up and unfed, but as they couldn't get the insulin and glucose drip into a suitable vein, he could also have been hypo-ing.
I rang Ward 4 at 4 for news. He had just gone down to theatre and was not returning to Ward 4 but going to Intensive Care afterwards, they said. I phoned Intensive Care at 6. They'd never heard of him. Everyone on Ward 4 had gone home they said, and S appeared to have been lost somewhere in the hospital. Eventually, a very nice cleaner called Denise located him for me. He was on Ward 8 where presumably, they had done away with someone to find a space for him. I went to see him. He was in a bed with "Mr Dog" written in a neat printed hand on the board behind his bed together with a notice prohibiting the use of mobile phones. They had lost his luggage. Also, they had lost his medication. I took him some grapes, which he ate gleefully, having eaten nothing else all day and trekked off down to Ward 4 in search of his luggage. Ward 4 was heaving with activity as the staff were desperately trying to send everyone home in order to close for the night. The luggage was in the sister's office there - presumably she still thought he was someone famous. She said she'd take his notes up there when she has the time.
I have absolutely no idea how long he will be there, but he looks rather uncomfortable with two tubes sticking out of his prick (take away the pain and leave the swelling, I thought) and as he is attached to a drip at the top end and a collecting bag at the other, I guess he is somewhat immobile.

All much as Woodstock has described apart from my temper ~ best to gloss over that.
For those who didn't know (and I only told a few because I didn't want it general knowledge until after the op). I had been diagnosed with Bladder Cancer before Christmas. The delays in performing the op have been worrying. Monday afternoon they removed four tumours from the roof of the bladder. Very unpleasant procedure under local (epidural) anaesthetic. Having returned me to a ward and after the epidural had worn off (yesterday) they administered "Aggressive Chemotherapy" directly into the bladder via a catheter .... I do not recommend anyone volunteering for this process! It fecking hurts.
At this stage they do not know but they think that the tumours had not penetrated beyond the bladder muscle so nothing else is effected. Prostate and Kidneys seem OK although they did locate a stone in the already damaged (old injury) left kidney but they decided to leave it until it starts to move when they will laser it.
Meanwhile I have more needle holes in my back and arms than you would believe possible and am peeing what looks like Cherryaid. They tell me this is partly blood and partly the chemo meds and should be clear in 48 hours.
Next move is to supply urine sample tomorrow and back to day unit for check up next Tuesday. Further checks will be made by appointment in day unit over the next three months then a full cystoscopy (look it up ~ it ain't nice) will be performed to see if tumours have returned. After that it will be back every three months to day surgery (each time a cystoscopy) for the next three/four years thence annually for life (unless the tumours come back when they will remove them again as last time). Should the tumours get through the bladder wall then that (the bladder) will have to come out.
The cause, it seems, may well be the diabetic control drug they switched me onto a couple of years ago. Studies in Canada have indicated that this particular drug (Piaglitazone) is associated with a greater chance of bladder cancer.
So why did I not 'fess up to you all before ~ well everyone I speak to has a "horror tale" to tell of similar cancers and until I knew more about my own I frankly didn't want any "Oh I had that" or "A friend of mine died of that" stories.
Thanks to you all for your good wishes. Hopefully with at least four visits a year to the Urology dept and four (on different days) to the Diabetic clinic + four to the Cardio unit (again on different dates) I shall be given my own parking space. Reception say they see more of me than some of the doctors!
Oh and yes Woodstock was right ~ They had somehow managed to put two catheters down me dick. She insisted on looking and did indeed suggest take away the pain but leave the swelling.

Welcome back my old dog, sounds very unpleasant stuff so glad it is all done. The delays must have added to the stress.
For the record, 'I haven't had that' and neither has any friend up to now. ;)

Good grief man sounds dreadful. I think we can move your kennel nearer the radiator just to spoil you for a few days and the bucket contraption on your head is purely for your own protection it is to stop you worrying at your wound. ;) You are excused guard dog duties for the next night or so.

A bulletin from the Kennel Gates:
The sh!ts have returned!
Have spoken to hospital about today's appointment.
"What ward were you on?"
"Eight"
"Last Tuesday you say?"
"Yes"
"And you have stomach cramps, nausea etc?"
"Yes"
"Don't come in today!"
"Oh"
"Ward Eight is closed due to Norovirus and it sounds like you have it"
eeek: "Oh!"
"Don't go to your GP ~ he won't thank you and there is nothing he can do, drink lots of water and wait for it to pass"
eeek: eeek: "Oh! ......... I thought it was the effect of the chemo they gave me. They did say it caused these symptoms"
"Not for a week ~ anyway you were due to have another hour long chemo insertion today"
"I WAS?" eeek: eeek: eeek:
"Yes ~ in fact once a week for the next six weeks"
shocked003 "Nobody told me that!"
"Well they should have done ..... ring me once you have been clear of the symptoms for 48 hours and we'll set up the appointments" ........... "BTW you should not have the Norovirus for more than 48 to 60 hours, when did it start?"
"Thursday but I was better on Sunday evening and yesterday I felt fine ... it started again last night"
"Ah ~ Sounds like you have reinfected yourself"
And so I now learn that it is (i) MY FAULT and (ii) That I have six weeks of chemo ahead of me"
Fvcking wonderful!! Banghead Banghead Banghead

Hosp have clearly spoken to my GP ~ who called to say "I've done a prescription for imodium(sp?) for you. It's in reception together with a sample jar.......next time you visit the toilet get a stool sample and drop it back to us and I'll get it analysed"
rubschin: So now my only problem is managing to catch liquid sh!t in a small tube.
Perhaps DS could offer guidance, he is used to handling slurry.
I know ~ Waaaaaaaay too much information. redface: Sorry!

Wanting to be a Doctor I can understand but to spend your day analysing such samples ~ who the fvck goes off to uni with that as a life plan? sick2:
