When I was a nipper the nearest bus stop to our house was universally referred to as "Simms Shop". Out and about today I heard a wumman telling her friend that somewhere or other was quite close to "Simms Shop". All the local bus drivers know it.
Simms Shop closed in 1938 whacky115

But on the topic try Foy's Corner in Shirley, Southampton. Used to be an iron mongers on the corner of Paynes Road. Pulled down donkeys years ago but ask any taxi or bus driver and that's where you'll end up.
Also "Jennys" which was a field where donkeys were kept opposite the Woodman pub. It is now part of the cemetery but all locals know it as "Jennys" ..... Oh and the Woodman has been pulled down too or so I am told.

Same in my old home town. Everybody calls the Red Lion the Red Cat, it changed it's name from the Cat in 1935 lol:
