Bastard.

I don't know any gay people to ask their opinion of this piece of work, but I would like to shoot him.
For those unfamiliar with Mr Phelps see below.

Perhaps the good citizens of Minnesota will do the world a favour.

The culture summed up by the phrase "The American Dream" leads to such madness.
The constant pressure to be somebody embodied in the US ethos makes inevitable that people will say anything that will get them noticed and give them the "fame" they so crave.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I have mine and I don't really care whether others agree with me or not, most of the time I keep my opinion to myself to avoid such divisions but we don't seem to be able to manage to keep others from imposing their opinions on us.
Why do so many people spend so much of their lives trying to force their unwanted opinions on others? I wish they would just shut up. Mute animals have a lot going for them sometimes.

I am reading C Hitchens God is Not Great at present. Fab stuff.

Well put.
'unwanted opinions' doesnt quite do the man justice though does it? To me, this is a dangerous, vicous worldview that causes real pain to some when they are already suffering.
If I was at a family funeral and he and his cronies turned up to tell me it was richly deseved due to the sins of the world I would kill him.
Still, there is a price to paid for freedom of speech I suppose.

I completely agree. Problem is when you look much more closely at the problem it only amounts to a matter of scale.
Some people just don't know when enough is enough, and short of curtailing everybody's freedoms, I can't think of a sensible way of shutting them up that won't end up getting exploited by someone else with an entirely different take of the freedom issue.
Shooting IS probably the best option.

A matter of scale?
There lies the rub.
How many were killed in that bridge collapse, half a dozen, a dozen? Who cares? Only those that were involved, those that loved them or just knew them or maybe just tried to help them.
They will have to deal with the likes of Phelps face to face while the we look on and comment from afar.
Everyday we se see/hear reports of dozens dead in Iraq. I want to care. I want to do something about it. I want to stop it.
But what do I do? Bitch on web forums? Shout at the TV? Vote Liberal Democrat?
I know! Lets blame the government!

Yeah, I've seen that clip before and I still find it scary to see that same smile and innocent expression throughout all the received criticism and to hear the monotone nonstop dialogue of the intellectually devoid, brainwashed disciple whilst recognising that she is universally hated leaves me numb.
But it's a free country!
Again though, it is a matter of scale, if they were ordinary religious nutters and not quite so inhuman in their attitude then we probably would never have heard of them.
It annoyed me to think that we wallowed so much in the discomfort of our floods whilst tragedy prevailed in India, Bangladesh and China, but then again, if we cried for all of the world we would be perpetually suicidal.
I guess keeping our concerns to a parochial level is what keeps us sane but still, one of the advantages of human civilisation is our ability to learn lessons from other peoples mistakes, and our abject failure to do that marks us down as terminally useless and ultimately doomed.
-
Scale again.
Phelps & co may be a very small minority on another continent but they are as human as the rest of us.
They are us, I want no part of them but they must be allowed to have their say no matter how much they may disgust us.
In the grand scale of things their opinion should count for nothing, but in this world of high speed communications, when opinions cross the world in a nanosecond, who is to say whose opinion is more worthwhile.
I want them silenced. I want them dead. But in the end, I would not kill them.
I will have to put up with free spech I suppose.

Ah the Westboro Baptist Church. Inbred mindless bigots the lot of them. While Americans are guarranteed free speech I'm pretty sure that the mysterious 'hand of god' fires at other churches near to them could be investigated and would show that it wasnt the hand of 'god' but the hands of their members.
-
I wonder how this lot copes with death or tragedy within their own close family. When a son, daughter or brother is killed I wonder how they treat them ? are they suddenly evil gays or is there some other excuse as to why ?god? has taken them.
That?s the film I?d like to see.

Nah, they'll celebrate their passing on to the 'horde of holy homophobes' in the sky Banghead
