The blubbering, as mentioned in me fridge thread, has commenced. ::)
Got to go out and by a catering pack of tissues now apparently. whistle:
Miss Moosey has pleaded with me to ...."look after her mother...promise me" eeek:
I reluctantly agreed without using the werd 'promise', but young G unfortunately saw me fingers crossed behind me back when i agreed to....just to keep the peace like.
The tears flowed eben more then. Banghead
I'm in the wulf 'ouse...again. ::)

Just busy pumpin' the tyres on me van up to 250psi. whistle:
Hired fork lift truck should be here any time soon.

Yep!
We had to do it at Christmas and Easter too ...... Then Royal Holloway wanted all students moved out early for the summer as the Limp Dick Rowers were using their halls for the season .... Arguments about refunds of Hall Fees are ongoing.
Second year is now upon us when she will be sharing a proper house with a proper landlord (Rigsby comes to mind) from 1st September to 30th July but must then move out for a month and back in on 1st September for the third year.
For years 2 & 3 I have suggested that she and the other 5 in the house rent a BIG YELLOW BOX to store all their books and crap during August and bring home only that which they will need over the summer.

It was NOT, repeat...NOT, a sobathon.
I was merely bored after having listened to the footie results and was wandering back to the flat wondering if the Mini Mooslet was still a bit upset like, so I thought I'd ring you, you know, being a so called expert on these sort of educational issues to merely ask if this was normal and was there any particular expert advice and consolation I could offer her, but all you could say in a almost angry tone was "oh ffs2 or summat similar and to get the hell out of there...which I intended doing, and in fact did so a mere 15 mins later. Banghead
Mrs G has taken it all exceedingly well tbh. Young G seemed more upset than us tbh, giving big 'ugs to his lickle sister which I found quite moving tbqh. eeek:
Meanwhile I'm in the process of moving all MM's piccies, 'cus they are actually making me a bit sad looking at them now. rubschin:
No 'phone calls or texts on the positive side screaming HELP so far anyway.

FAB  She is now out getting pissed, snogging strangers and protecting her milk
A big relief
I bet Growler cried

Freshers flu next week for sure. We were at a vintage fair in Sheffield today the place was packed to the gunnels with squealing girlies and spotty lads all looking for retro clothes. There were sneezes a plenty. No doubt I will have freshers bloody flu next week.

I bet Growler cried
I friggin' DID NOT! cussing:
Even if I'd felt a tear bubblin' up...which I didn't.....I wouldn't have dun, as I'm not so dim as to not know that it would have made the whole situation ten times werser, you great gingery baboon's arse faced goon. cussing:
Felt a twinge in the owld eye drainage system when I got home and saw all her photo's on the walls though if you want the plain truth.and that's a fact. cry:
Meanwhile, she's just texeded to say THEY'VE just had a chilli con carne and she's fine!
Mrs G has actually suprised me greatly by being remarkably cool and level 'ed'd much to my suprise. eeek:
I was fully expecting the full sunami from her. eeek:

Mini Moose has that task to complete.
Fancy dress based on a schoohell theme next week apparently.

TV licence required apparently. eeek:
Obviously misguided, but I thought 1 licence covered all tv's in community type premises?
Bloody rip off...again.
Needless to say, the MM has left hers here.
Might install it in my nest room actually. rubschin:

That generally only covers TV's when they are in any communal areas . If you have one in your own room you have to pay up noooo:

Apparently their are several chinese residents on her floor, and they and their many invited Oriental friends are permanently in the kitchen talking their native tung confused: and cooking strange noodeley type things.
She's feeling a bit lost amongst them and wishes she'd gone to a larger more vibrant 'house' now.
She's texting in a happy tone, but between the lines I sense a slight sense of despair.

Didn't miss the young trout when she was 'ere...obviously ::), but Growler Towers is feeling a much colder and less 'busy' place without her comings, goings, messiness, noise, and general annoyances now, and weirdly, I'm actually already missing it. cry:

Shouldn't really tell you this, and he'd kill me if he read this, but young G jnr was actually devastated late last night pining for his lickle sis.

Growler it's a bit like when they go up to 'big school' for the first few weeks it's all very strange with lots of tears and a few tantrums, during the first term friendships come and go and by the time they go back after Christmas the best friend that was has become an enemy and the enemy has become the new bestest friend. By the end of the second term everything has settled down and in Uni's case they don't really remember the first term by then as they were too pissed.

Indeed she did. It is a great university and a great city to be in.
She did her PGCE at Exeter. Not such a nice time as her work experience farmed her out to the wilds of Dorset.
She worked through the holidays to get a deposit for a flat and has just started teaching at a good school in Framlingham. One very proud mum. cloud9:

It's not really like schooohell though is it?
My mindset is one of them actually WANTING to be there rather than being forced to by law, hence a better class of student, or am I just hoping on that one? rubschin:
This is actually what I told the MM yesterday, but I'm not too confident that that,or indeed anything actually sank in between the sobs. Shrugs:
I can't think of anything worse than seeing your kids upset tbh...nowt. noooo:
The great difficulty is trying to convince them that everything will be ok without sounding condecending.

Holding back the tears....just apparently. cry:
Wants to move from her current flat as no one on her floor is talking to her, and going down to other floors is not really an option as you can't gain acess without a key or hammering until someone opens the main door....as I found out yesterday. Banghead
She's seeing the accomodation officer tonight apparently with a view to moving to another block.
I can deel another trip coming on iminenetly, or p'raps I should hire Pickfords. whistle:
Thank the Lord she didn't go to Lincoln I say, or she'd be told she's staying exactly where she is, or move on yer own. evil:
-
This all sounds very familiar. They do settle in a few weeks tho'.
Lancaster, if I recall correctly, have a policy of mixing up their students in accommodation unlike Holloway where half the block were geologists ~ so at least shared lecture times etc which meant they tended to get up and go to bed at similar times ... also had same work deadlines.
The "ethnics" do cause a bit of a problem at times as the THW tells it. They (ethnics) like to converse in their own language and have a tendency to look down on English students because their (ethnics) governments are paying £ squillions for them to be there. Most have never been out of their own country before and have no idea how things work in the UK. Unfortunately the universities claim they can't exist financially without them.
-
In other words Mini Moose must slap them about the head angel1
-
It's a tough time for parents and children alike. As Growler says at the time that it is happening there is not much worse than hearing your child unhappy because peole won't talk to her or whatever. except that at our ages we know that there is so much worse than that. I would occasinly remind mine that as females in many countries they would not get the chance. Oh and they didn't have to worry about bombs and schrapnel. Might make me a bad mother but then I don't do cupcales either. eveilgrin:
Prolly best not to do it unti[ at least the 6th phone call. ;)

Texts are bouncing back and forth and up and down the M6 now, and I'm trying me bestest to stay out of it, cruel to be kind type stuff. NOT easy, but for the best I feel.
Feel like a right bastard I do. cry:
She's just ring Mrs Monster again now. I await more sadening news. Banghead

Zactly, and that's why I'm endeavouring to keep me 'ed below the pararapat.
Even Mrs G agrees with me eeek: eeek: eeek: when I suggested that the sooner the texts stop the more we'll know that she's more content and busying herself.

Sounds crazy, but I'm feeling quite 'appy this morning now, 'cus the MM has just texted me sounding ded chipper like, but more importantly, she sez she luvs me MORE than choccy even! eeek:

This thread is bringing back memories ... rubschin:
I stayed in halls for a term or so if I recall. There was a particularly nasty incident involving a 2nd year student. It started when some others began to report that they'ed had stuff nicked, and not fridge stuff either, records, watches, lighters and other personal possessions. It was all catalogued by staff but it went no further.
One night a student knocked on the door of this 2nd year student to ask him something or other; he never let anyone into his room and wasn't the most sociable type. The other student noticed something on the desk from where he was standing in the doorway; something like a lighter but he was certain that it was his mate's who'd lost it.
Word got around that night and later a lynch mob posse was formed with the intention of making a call at this lad's room. There were about a dozen of us, fortunately I hadn't had anything missing but strength in numbers and some of the girls were quite upset ... not to say bloody furious that he might be the culprit.
We knocked on the door and one asked if he could have a word ... What happened over the next couple of hours was dismal; denials, discoveries of people's stuff, tears, threats. The guy was a klepto noooo:
Everything was returned where it could be and looking back I'm amazed that there wasn't blood on the carpet. He never made it to the 3rd year though. He left under medical supervision.
I found a flat quite soon after that with some others I trusted. Scary stuff, eh? Sorry to spoil your evening ;)

S'pose these things happen.
All new to me though, as neither myself or Mrs The Owld Moose ever went to Unl, so new experience for both of us's really.
I admit that I was actually quite looking forward to her departure, mainly for the re-gaining of the carpet and some peace!
Not actually quite so sure now though tbqh. noooo:

Happy and miserable all at once now. confused:
MM has just texteded to say she's already moved to another house, and it's great.
All the gerls in there helped her so she's got loads of new friends now, and is currently preparing to go on the BIG night out to the on site night club now.
Miserable, because selfishly I was quite looking forward to going back up there later this week to help her move. cry:
S'pose I'm happy...ish really....I think...ish. sad32:

Get a friggin' part time job like many of the other stewdents up there are having to, that's how.
Either that or she lives on a diet of Pot Noodles and fresh water for the next 3 years, simple.
I'm forseeing a very long and slippy slope ahead for the next 3 years. eeek:
-
Fees loan takes care of her tuition.
If household income (provable) does not exceed £52k pa then she can claim grant assistance on a sliding scale ~ the lower the household income the higher the assistance. (They call it a living allowance)
Bursaries are available at all Universities.
Student Loans will also help but again the level of loan is dependant upon the household income.
If in doubt contact "Student Finance England" (they are on line)
Also suggest M.M. contacts "Student Support" at her University to see exactly what she can claim and what she can apply for.
Part Time Jobs are hard to find as they are mostly snatched up by 2nd and 3rd year students BUT again the "Student Support" office may be able to help ..... there are often jobs on campus available and always the chance of picking up a few quid as a "Student Ambassador" on open days and the like.
Part time working is not always possible ~ much depends on the student's contact hours ie those hours that she MUST be in tutorials, classes, lectures etc. The THW has a massive 25 contact hours per week and to that must be added a similar number of hours for study, essay writing etc. She also has to factor in the many "Field Trips" that a geology student has to undertake which means few employers are interested in her as she would seldom be available. Some of those students she met studying other subjects such as Drama, Performing Arts, Media Studies and dare I say it English Literature have as few as 6 to 10 contact hours a week and no field trips. They tend to get the jobs that are going. All that said as a 2nd year student the THW has already sorted out some baby sitting for neighbours where she now lives. She can put the baby to bed and sit with her laptop and work until the parents come home. £25 a session makes a hooge difference to her budget even if she only gets a couple of sessions a month.
-
Tar. She's obviously got the grant for the fees (£9k P.A eeek:) but that's for another angry discussion, and the stewdent grant, but that barely covers her rent tbh.
She;s realying on whet little money she's saved from her Chester Zoo job during the summer....most of it pissed away in bloody 'Rosies' night club in Chester from what I can fathom out, gifts from rellies and some extra dosh from us.
The figures just aren't stacking up though, unless she takes heed and budgets very strictly on the weekly basis like I've tried to teach her.
I'm not holding my breath on that one, but am more than willing to give her the benefit of my doubt and to be suprised. whistle:
Failing that, then I suppose the Bank of Dad will be having to open for business again. Banghead
My wanted trip to Alaska is very much on hold and ice ...gerrit...ice? ::) lol:

Mini Moose is seemingly very happy in her new flat now.
Surrounded bt other jolly stewdents it seems (reads as piss 'ed's to me ::) )
She's going to have to make her mind up on her secondary subject today, and Biology is looking favourite now it seems.
This is actually making me a very happy ole Bear, as as in any of the sciences, there is a gross shortage of these required skills now.
-
Biology it is.
Couldn't do Eng.Lit. anyway, 'cus they now say you had to have a grade A in A level.
She obtained a B
Fail.
News to piggin her and us.
Meanwhile, as I predicted, she lost summat in the rapid flat move with a bin liner yesterday. Banghead
New bath towel has vanished. cussing:

Oh the bank of Dad had better be on standby. It is going to be an expensive three years. Put yer 'oliday plans on hold. Daughter number three had the audacity to ask me for her train fare up here, pleading poverty (for which I coughed up) then turned up wearing brand new Ugg boots, not something that I would be able to afford, not that I want a pair of Ugg boots but you get the gist. For you uninitiated blokes out there...

The THW used to "borrow" her mother's car and I too paid the additional and eye-watering insurance.
She (THW) had designs on taking it to uni but we said no. We did let her borrow it to go on holiday. She managed to blow it up in Staines. I replaced Woodstock's motor but did not put THW on the insurance. You should have heard the ruck over that! But I'm buggered if I am paying out over £1000 for her to drive her mother's car for no more than 4 weeks a year. She has no real need for a car in (Outer) London. In fact most people I know who live in London don't bother to own a car and even those that do (Like Pastis) only really use it occasionally.
As I recall Lancaster Uni (like most) has a policy of no first year students being allowed cars on campus so where can she keep it there? That said Lancaster Uni Campus is fvcking miles from civilisation so perhaps in second and third years she will have a use for it.... meanwhile she will certainly want it at Christmas to drive round and see all her old school friends.
Tough call as to what to do about it but fortunately the THW solved the problem for me by blowing up the Corsa. angel1

Good and valid points made there^^^ (NOT Nicks...as usual...do you ever give up ey? ::) )
I noticed last Saturday a few signs up in the lickle village before the uni., staing garages to rent for stewdents. rubschin:
In fairness, she hasn't actually asked to take the car up there, but the answer had been already decided upon in readiness.
I'm now thinking of changing The Mrs Olwd Mooses car to a group 1 or 2 insurance rated MONSTER lol: and transferring her name onto the MM's policy as a user to maintain the NCD that she's currently earning. Be such a waste binning the policy after 6 months of no claim driving.
So many permutations as to what to do.
Thought about putting the MM's Saxo into the Festa's nest until crimbo....oh I don't know, but as you rightly say, she'll be wanting to get around come crimbo, easter and next summer, espcially for travelling back to the Zoo too. Either that or Dads Free Taxi's will be having to swing back into action again. Banghead

Indeed Nick but when there is a very loud bang from the cylinder block, clouds of black smoke and flames I'm afraid blown up is the only way to describe it ...... And it was in Tesco car-park in Staines upon Thames ... as the local council renamed it on 20th May 2012 .... fvck knows what they paid out to have all the signs changed but that's for the local residents to complain about.

Yep!
15 year old Corsa ~ Done 65K and she drove it to Holland, did about 1000 miles in a week and wondered why smoke was billowing out of the exhaust. Root problem was that the head gasket had gone but she just kept on driving it. "Did you check water and oil?" I asked "Did you think to contact the extremely expensive Continental Breakdown & Recovery to UK Cover I had arranged for your week on holiday?"
Answer to both was "No" because .................... "We hadn't actually broken down and anyway neither of us knew the Dutch for Oil and Water so we didn't like to try."
The fact that everyone over the age of 4 in Holland speaks English didn't seem to have occurred to her or her gormless boyfriend ::)
Anyway they got back to Egham and then decided to go to Tesco to do some shopping, still with smoke now seeping out from under the bonnet. 'Phoned me from Tesco car park for help when one of the security guys suggested she had a problem. What am I supposed to do sitting 230 miles away? I called out a local (Staines) garage who took one look and called me to say "Forget it mate".
Now anything can be mended if you are prepared to throw enough money at it BUT let's not forget that the car's insurers had already written it off as "Beyond economic repair" some 4 years ago when some arse in a white van drove into the rear nearside in a car park in Conwy. The insurers had offered me £850 to scrap the vehicle or £730 cash and I could keep the car and get it "unwritten off" by putting it through a £30 inspection by the DVLA or whichever department does such things. Natch I had grabbed the money and at small inconvenience had it re-registered as "Not a write off".
So, thinking quickly, I asked the Staines garage man for the name and/or number of a local (to them) scrappy which he obligingly supplied. I called them to uplift the car from the uni car park, told THW to nurse it back to there ('bout 3 miles at most) remove the tax disc and wait until the scrappy arrived. This he did a couple of hours later and looked at the car. Tried to start it and got an almighty BANG! and clouds of smoke. "It's fvcked" was all he said. She called me via her mobile and handed it to him "Tell me Dad".
He told me the same story as the garage bloke. "Head gasket gone, Cylinder head cracked, Fvck knows what it'll be like once we've got under the head which looks like it will have to be drilled out. Looking at least £450 to repair, probably more ~ scrap it".
I gave him the okay to take it, THW had all the documents with her as she had to carry them on the Continent, including a letter of consent to drive it signed by the owner (Me) so he was happy enough to lift it onto his truck and take it away. He even handed the THW £30 for scrap value. A week later, through the post, I got the Certificate to say it had been scrapped .

Don't know how long ago this was, presumably not too far back, but even though I'm not in the scrap business, I was under the impression that scrap cars were fetching £1-200 approx now, and have been for years.

Absolutely 100% useless clueless and thouroughly dis-interested when it comes to cars.

Book value in "Mint" was only a couple of hundred quid and don't forget I'd already been paid for the car by the insurers years ago.

And I have to say the thought of the THW, all 5'10'' & 12.5 stone of her, thundering across the grass waving an oversized shrimp net in anger frankly frightens me ~ so fvck knows what it does to the delicate young ladies of other colleges. Small 'n' delicate she ain't!

I signed up for horse riding noooo:
Never again noooo:
When I was 13/14 Southampton Town (as it then was) Council decided they wanted a Zoo. The Chipperfield (Circus) Family offered to help with funding and sure enough Southampton Zoo came into being and was used to house the circus animals during the winter season. Lions, Tigers and the like. There was a selection of other animals housed there throughout the year. The zoo was built at the bottom end of Southampton Common. A young lady, daughter of the then Landlord of the Cowherds Inn, was horse mad and soon made friends with Mary Chipperfield who, at the time, was actually the one in tights who rode the circus horses, doing handstands on their backs etc. I'm sure you have all seen such circus acts. Anywhoo the publican's daughter got to ride the Chipperfield horses on the common to exercise them when they weren't out touring and she taught me to ride a horse ......... as well eyes:
The Southampton Zoo closed some years ago now and I have long lost contact with the girl in question but I have happy memories of galloping across the Common sans saddle whistle:
Sorry ~ Completely off topic but ...... well you know how something triggers one's memory.

Anyhoo 2 separate things were dispatched and not a thank you or acknowledgement. She did publicly thank her family for taking her out for a 'champagne meal'. That's what you do in Suffolk dahlihg mwah mwah.
I am cross with myself for giving a shite and cross with her because that is not how she was bought up. In her Fathers absence she did 'thank you' letters. evil:

Texts started arriving again yesterday, the type that reading between the lines I could tell were an indication of unhappiness.
She'd spoken to Mrs G and G Jnr though apparently, confirming my thoughts.
Seems there's a girl from Tailand who went out on the razz to Morecombe on Friday night, and brought some random local scruff bag back with her.
The noise was horrendous apparently, and she was absolutely 'slaughtered' out of her head.
MM's next door neighbour hammered on the door and told them to shut it and a large barney ensued.
Got so bad that in the end, security had to be called to eject this arse hole she's picked up.
The atmosphere on her floor is now somewhat tense and very unpleasant apparently, and she now wishes she hadn't moved from the other block. Banghead
That's the short version, but I suspect there is a great deal more to this.
Ahh well, only 2 years 51 weeks to go. whistle:

Growler this is just the trials and tribulations of any communal living. When she goes from halls and moves into a shared flat / house there will be more of the same . It's part of learning how to deal with people / situations and resolving issues.
Think of it that she is just sharing this information with you and talking about how best to deal with it but ultimately it is her problem to solve .
-
Miss D is right.
We all expect our kids that go to University to become real brain boxes full of education but it really is more learning about life and how to handle it. At our age Growler we learned much of it "on the streets" but our own children are not "street savvy" the way we were at that age.
I look at the innocent (and he is) 14 year old who is sat near me doing his Spanish Homework and I'm thinking "Fvck me ~ 12 months from where you are now son I was in the RAF"
I look at the THW, who last year went through all the things that you are reporting MM is suffering, and I realise that at that age I was serving in Aden, being shot at and shooting back.
It is just a matter that they have to be allowed to work it out for themselves ~ and they will.
None of which makes it any less of a worry I know.

All they can hear at night is the stream running, and wildlife rustling around....and OWL'S! cloud9:
I can do OWL impressions you know.
My cottage did have running water and leccy, no gas and no TV. Nearest neighbour was over a mile away. cloud9:
Apart from the rallies all I could hear at night was the stream and the owls too. Here at night I can hear the river but surprisingly I very rarely hear owls. Send me yer owl impersonation like.
Tipsy had more fun than me when she was a child. One house my parents owned backed onto Malvern Common when the circus visited I used to be sent with my elder sister, bucket in hand to collect elephant dung. noooo:
I bet Tipsy had red wellies too, I only ever had green ones. sad24:

Washing machine is too expensive to use up there apparently. ::)
I'm out all next Saturday on a rally in deepest darkest Wales too as it happens. cloud9:
She seems to be settling in nicely now.
Where in Wales you off too? When I lived just outside Clun one of the rallies used to drive past our cottage on night drives regularly. cloud9:
Penmachno Forest...near Betwys Coed.
One of me favourites it is. cloud9:
There's a wooden cottage deep in there, cloud9: the owners of which I got chatting to a few years ago when I was marshalling adjacent to it.
They brought me tea, butties and a CAKE on a tray too. cloud9:

Just got back from taking Miss Mooslet back.
Empty house here again to greet me. cry:
Been really nice weekend, only spoilt by G jnrs girlfriend/Miss Moselet's now EX best friend.
What an absolute bitch of horrendously and previously un-witnessed epic proportions she really is.
I've had to tread a very fine line, but I've had to ban her from G Towers, albeit with a very heavy heart due to G Jnr being stuck in the middle of a nasty and verbally vicious as good as, one sided dog fight.
I am currently feeling quite, no, very, upset, low, anxious and extremely saddened by what was a great couple of days, and totally wrecked by the most unbelievably childish purile petualnt and completely disgraceful behaviour of one jealous viperous bitch who I never wish to see darken my doorstep ever again.
Staggered. eeek:
I absolutely despair. Shrugs:
I'm going upstairs to get a hug of one of her cuddly teds.

They both are already...and angry.
All this because she didn't get the grades to go to uni herself, and has had to go back to school to resit.
Not admitted obviously, and all sorts of lies insults staggering verbal attacks on Miss Mooslet, but everyone knows this is all just plain jealousy, simple as.
My head is still reeling with the dis-belief that someone who has been always welcomed here, fed and watered regulary, come out on social occassions with us all, and even taken on holiday to spain with us last year, can suddenly turn and end up being such a vile ungrateful nasty bitch that she's proven to be, gradually over the last few weeks, but firmly confirmes and cemented over the last couple of days.
Mainly feel so sorry for young G Jnr now. I really don't know how to advise him as to what he should do...apart from bin her...FAST.
Not quite that easy though, as I'm sure you'll understand.
He's gone to see her and I await the outcome later with a heavy heart.

As each day dawns, yet another barrel of shite awaits.
This time....next years accomodation for the Mini Mooslet uip there....NEXT year meaning 2013/4 eeek:
Seems this has to be sorted pronto, but she seemingly got mixed in with the wrong crowd, meaning the a crowd what appears to be minted.
Sharing with 5 others in a big house in Lancaster @ £95 EACH eeek:...EACH per WEEK! eeek:
That's a eye watering £546 per week, or an almost unbelievable shark loan amount of £2184 per month to this robbing bastard! cussing:
Talk about taking advantage! eeek:
I am now looking at property...a flat...up there to purchase short tyerm for an equally staggeringly low £39k that she could then share with one other stewdunt.
Apparently, so I'm told, she doesn't want to be isolated and feeling left out.
I've suggested that cloth is cut according to means.
I also stated that I want a Bugatti Veyron, or even a mere Lambo Gallarado or povo spec DB9, but............. whistle:
-
Oh Yes!
Accommodation for year 2 has to be sorted by Christmas of year 1 or there won't be any left.
The rent quoted is reasonable compared to the THW who is also sharing a house with 5 others.
Also annoying will be that they will have to pay at least 1 month rent as a deposit (so wave goodbye to that) and the Landlord will want them to vacate for the whole of August (meaning they have to remove all of their possessions) but he will want half rent "To retain" the room. Normally they want the deposit by January as well as the August retainer even though the kids cannot move in until September. Rent is usually payable quarterly thereafter.
The THW's Landlord is considered to be one of the best in Egham. He owns 6 properties there, all let to 6 students sharing and a further 8 properties in Nottingham for all of which he charges the same. B@sr@rd must be worth millions£££££££££

I could friggin' weep, for both her and meself. sad32: Banghead
She's only got a grant of £6000 a year, so on my reckoning, after her 'rent theft', she'd only have a mere £1060 to actually feed socialise and transprt herself on, not to mention the other incidentals like stuff required for her course work for the WHOLE bastard 12 months! sad32: eeek: Banghead Angry9:
Actually, she'd have an extra £190 a year on 2nd thoughts, as the landlord shark ONLY requires FULL rent for a mere 50 weeks out of the 52, how generous ey?
She won't be friggin' THERE for about 18 bastard weeks of the year though!!! Explode:

Anyways, I'm ringing the estate agents up to make more enquiries about a few flats near the city center, one for a mere £35k overlooking the River lune too.
On the face of it, it 'looks' very good, but will need to go and view, obviously.
I've suggested she finds someone willing to share and pay me a sensible rent just to pay the small mortgage, and she could live there rent free but would have to pay their own rates and power.
3 years on, I either sell it for the same, possibly a small loss, or hopefully a small profit.
Could even keep it and rent it out to stewdunts again, but I'm not actually too sure about that one at the mo. tbh, having been 'bitten and thouroughly mauled'by tenants in the past on a shit house I bought to let in Berken'ed 15 years ago. sick2:
best thing I ever did was sell it.

Frantic texts between me and me Mooslet have stopped as she's in a lecture now apparently. Banghead
Once again, ::) the facts and this unfolding drama was kept away from me until the very last minute....last night.
She's now apparently been told by the other 5 potential falt mates, that the contract HAS to be signed by the end of THIS WEEK...and a hefty deposit paid too!! eeek:
She's in a blind state of panic up there today, and doesn't know what to do for the best. confused:
She knows it's too expensive, but on the other hand, doesn't want to lose out by not being with her new found friends, and also alienating them at this late stage too, and being left on her own, dis-owned.

I thought....she can commute back here to G Towers every day....£14,.50 return, but that's really not on, as she'd be having to get up at stupid 'o' clock every day to return. Crazy idea really, but this is what happens.
Caravan p'raps, but all the sites I've found within commuting distance won't allow anyone to stay on them during the winter. Banghead

Just rung the estate agent regarding the flats for £34-40k.
Wasn't actually shocked to learn that they are in need of renovation, and to quote..."not the nicest area in town". ::)
She wouldn't elaborate on that one even though I pushed her.
Bolloxed if I'm travelling all the way up there and back again to view a possible piggery in the center of a probable notorious smack 'ed zone. evil:
Any other suggestions anyone, before me 'ed actually explodes? Banghead
-
Are they going to view this house before putting down a deposit ?
How much are the bills currently costing ? If this is a big house this could be a major factor in terms of additional costs?
Also if this property is more than 3 storeys and there will be 5 of them in there then the property requires licenisng by the landlord. Part of this process ensures that the property is checked and that the landlord has provided up to date Gas Safety certificates, electrical safety certs and that Fire precautions are adequate.

The Mini Mooslet HASN'T even seen this luxury'mansion'!.......
(I assume from the £2.25 k A MONTH the thieving bastard landlord is charging that it must at least be one...with a butler..and gardener...and chauffer back and forth to the campus every day. whistle: )
It apparently DOES include gas and leccy,... whoop de whoop.. and is also alledgedly "very nice", so her mates have told her. ::)
I assume he has all the usual certificates, yes.
She's now out of lecture and in FULL FULL text panic mode.
I'm getting close to jumping in the car and going up there tbqh.
Intolerable situation, and she's being put under great pressure and strain to cough up and sign, and she wants to keep the peace in fear of alienating everyone as i said earlier.
Wish TF she's stayed down here, I really do.
Always said this would turn out to be THE most massively expensive party of all time...and financial utter nightmare and horror show, but no, she wanted "the experience" Banghead
Yes yes my lickle petal, but as I repeatedly explained months ago....." at what cost"? eeek:

Part of this life lesson is that you don't sign on the dotted line without seeing the flat first. Not an unreasonable request and if her new BFF's are not happy about this then this is bullying and not friendship. She has to stand up for herself a little here.
Next part of the equation is that if this is her choice then the reality is she will have to supplement her income and will need to start looking around for a part time / evening job . Whatever it takes. That too is also part of 'the experience' .

She sez if she doesn't though, she'll be isolated and left on her own.

No one is suggesting that you soft ol fur ball.
It is understandable you want to protect your little cub . The difficulty is she wants to be an adult and live her own life but then keeps involving you in all her decision making, when in her head the decision has already been made. Not suggesting she shouldn't discuss some of her issues with you but she needs to take responsibility.
You are therefore left worrying, foreseeing all the problems she can't , and just wanting to grab her by the scruff of her neck and bring her back to the cave.

Not havin' a go at you MD, I'm mearly showing the concern of any responsible parent when their child rings/texts for advice and help, regardless of age.
I'm trying to guide her into not making a decision that would be detrimental for her, but as has been said, I can't stop her and she has to learn and make her own mistakes. I just don't want this one to be an absolute monster whopper of one, hence the hopefully helpful guidance.
Be REALLY handy if her f'in mother was here to give some views too like Banghead, but that's a completely different bastard subject. evil:
I've sat here the whole friggin' day winding meself up, texting back and forth, watching MM nearing the edge of a slide gracefully into a potentially very damaging money slurry pit, and I'm just supposed to sit back, chortle, grin and wipe my hands of ANY help or responsibilty? Shrugs:
I'm ONLY trying to advise, NOT dictate and DO appreciate that she has to stand on her own feet...and that has been happening throughout and up to now.

The Bank of Dad will always help her out of her 'screw ups' once again, unfortunately they seem to get bigger and more expensive with age. Let her make her own decisions as long as she can afford them herself......bollocks to being left out of smugness with her new found friends (they can't be very good friends if they put her in this situation) she is prolly best finding a new bunch. Tell her to tough it out, she will be a better person for it. Thumbs:

You are therefore left worrying, foreseeing all the problems she can't , and just wanting to grab her by the scruff of her neck and bring her back to the cave.

Thumbs:
+1 Actually said very similar to that to her this av.
I can do no more....other than wait for her to walk through the bank of dad main door, and THAT amongst other things, is what I don't want to see, as the vaults are nearing dangerously low limits.

aghhhhhh! why are you not my Dad?! I went to uni half hour drive from home and had to pay my own rent . i worked and studied and worked to pay my way because I could have stayed at home cheaper. No student wants to live at home but they all need to appreciate where the money comes from. She may fall out with the other four in a month anyway! Give her the choice......pay for yourself to live in the castle or consider dad's option and get a cut when I sell it ;)

Good man.
Lickle girls grow up very quickly and become very manipulative with Daddy. I don't want to say let her suffer.....but learn the hard way like the rest of us had to.
Gerra ferking job and pay for your own mistakes....the more mistakes you make the more you have to put the time in at werk.
If only we were all born as BMs' kids then we would not have to wurry. razz:

I would never dream of going to the Bank of Dad for anything. I could have and have needed to, but I was taught responsibility and a sense of economic worth (ie you work....you can buy pretty things). My Dad would give me everything if I asked but I would rather he was proud of my values and pride at working for it.
I hated him at the time, but now, it was one of the best lessons he taught me.

MM just emailed me and has shown all the adverse comments regarding the letting agency to her bessy mate there.
Not impressed by all accounts and is carrying on regardless.
It's friggin' ok for her though, as she's an ex head girl of a private schooohell with minted parents who are probably paying the rent for this rip off shit 'ole. Banghead
I'm feeling so bloody weary, shambolic, confuslicated and totally thouroughly utterly goosed with the whole subject. sad32:
Feel like running away even now, but i jknow I can't, 'cus the problems will still be there in me 'ed.
Meanwhile, WHERE TF is the one who should be helping me with all this shite, ey, WHERE? Shrugs:
Who TF knows....or even cares now tbqh. Banghead
Sorry if I've bored the arses off some of you's all today, but I've had absolutely no one else to ramble on and rant at. redface:

Growler much as it pains you, stand back. You have supported her, you have offered alternative solutions, you have even bloody considered buying a flat there for her to ensure she is safe and not ripped off.
You couldn't possibly have done more.
She is so lucky in that respect!

It's never enough though is it?
Constant worry and heartache.
Can't just stand back and see her drop into an abyss, can I?
Wish she'd never gone to the bastard place now tbqatth, and she's not even enjoying the course she's on to make it even worse. Banghead

I know, I piggin' know, which makes it even harder to accept actually, mainly 'cus i know you're all right

Dearest Growler your daughter is not going to drop into an abyss, she is signing up to rent a property that is nearly a year away.
Things can change radically in that time. Even if she chooses not to move into this place with these so called friends there will be another willing to take her place.

Let her get on with it and make the same mistakes we have all done.....as long as she learns from it the hard way. It is a lesson in life she needs to fall down upon. Tough but true.
-
They are right. It doesn't help your concerns, but there is no more you can do hun. MM is not a baby, she knows she has your support, knows you have tried to help her, please try not to tear youself up over it. Otherwise that brick wall you keep banging your head against may cause real damage.......then you are no use to anyone.

^^^^^^^^
I can't add to those wise words.
You are in danger of beating yourself to death over this, in which case you will be unable to maintain the great support you are already giving and worse, making MM feel guilty about it.
Step back a bit is my advice.

Mini Moose will do what she wants no matter what you do or say. I found the THW a flat at half the rent she is paying but she wouldn't take it "because it is too far from the bus stop and shops" .... So I found another at similar cheap rent "I'm not living there ~ Too much traffic on that road" and so it went on.
It seems that the days of students living in grotty attics have gone. Banghead They all want the comforts they enjoyed at home. THW wouldn't even look at anywhere without a fvcking dishwasher!
THW's priorities were Dishwasher, washing machine (whatever happened to launderettes?) and the speed of the internet.
