Indeed. Discussion about this on the JV show yesterday, and apparently it's taken this long to pursuade then to come out with their 'stories' because they were nervous or some other such utter shite.
I have an uncomfortable feeling about all these allegations tbh.

Mr Gambaccini told ITV1’s Daybreak programme he had been waiting 30 years for the allegations about his former Radio 1 colleague to come out. Surrey police confirmed Sir Jimmy was interviewed under caution in 2007 about alleged abuse at the now-closed Duncroft Approved School for Girls, which he visited regularly. Crown prosecutors decided there was insufficient evidence to charge him.
Speaking on the programme, Mr Gambaccini claimed that, at one point, Sir Jimmy was about to be exposed by a tabloid newspaper but quickly arranged an interview with a rival title, which resulted in preventing the negative article from being published.
He said: ‘It comes out when he’s dead because Jimmy Savile had an imperial personality in showbusiness.
‘You just didn’t mess with Jim. He was the governor, because after all he had been the first great club DJ, he had been the originator of Top Of The Pops presentation, and you just let him have his turf.’
The Jim’ll Fix It star had raised millions of pounds over the years for his pet cause, Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

I guess for the numerous alleged victims the outcome for them would be that the reputation of this almost saintly perceived figure is sullied.
It would appear many attempts have been made by some of these victims to have their claims investigated but not enough 'evidence' seems to have been the default position. However seems to be overwhelming amounts of the stuff now!.
Those that now claim they knew but did nothing should be charged if they were previously questioned.
I hope any of the 'victims' don't go for compensation against his estate as to my mind the motives for this become more mercenary.

Fame (and money) has benefits to both parties in that sort of relationship, where both should be old enough to know what they're getting in to.
I'd be surprised if any prosecution is heading his way - he's obviously barking mad, but I never had him down as a kiddler, unlike Savile, King and Glitter.

His guilt or innocence is now irrelevant and inprovable either way.

Thinking about this more, and so, all these adults that are now coming forward after alledgedly being abused by JS 20/30 years ago.
Not one of them reported the matter to a responsible adult that deemed the accusations bad enough to report the matter/s to the appropriate authorities at the time?

If one of my kids had come forward with such accusations...or ANYONES kids come to think about it.... I'm damned sure I'd have gone straight to 'the top' regardless what bastard profile the accused had, and I'm pretty damned sure you lot would have done so too!

Fair enough and good for you, seriously. However, I heard one woman on the lunchtime radio state that when she was molested (by JS) she told her parents; they threw the accusation back in her face. Years later she allegedly told the same to a TV production company; again, her story was discounted as implausible.
JS was an intelligent man, a member of Mensa incidentally. I reckon he played the charity / fund raiser card deliberately as a firewall.

However odious you believe the man might have been, he is dead now and there can never be a trial to prove him guilty.

But it's not about bringing him to trial and legally proving him guilty .
This is not one persons word against another either. Enough 'reasonable doubt' has been cast of his character now to strip away his previous public persona and expose him for apparently what he really was . To me the point of any investigation now is to recognise and acknowledge the victims accounts of events.
I am uncomfortable with these victims going on TV and telling their stories when he doesn't have a right to reply but by all accounts many have tried many times before to have these allegations taken seriously and been rebuffed from a number of sources. Often from their own parents at the time telling them they should not make a fuss etc. It was after all very different then.
40 years later and the collective voices of these people provide a significant body of evidence to support their accusations and to finally be taken seriously.
I am sure some people seeking media attention will create stories for their 5 minutes of fame but by and large I genuinely believe the majority of victims to be believable . He appears to have 'taken advantage' of many . Some of who were particularly vulnerable, others perhaps naive and gullible. Those people that knew what was going on and did nothing should be culpable but lets not have a witch hunt. I fear there will be far too many and it would take far too long and will achieve little. Let them live with their guilt and publicly name them .
Let the police investigate the claims of his victims but lets not have every one reported in the media . I'm NOT defending JS for what he's ALLEDGED to have done.
We've all had our suspicions, but I think it's absolutely intolerable and an utter disgrace the way all this has come out now after the guy has snuffed it ,and is therefore going to find it quite difficult to defend himself.
Accusations daily, and judgement now completed without a shred of hard evidence, just heresay, guilty verdict announced, convicted and 'slaughtered.

It has turned from a perfectly acceptable report of people coming forward and asking to have their side of the story listened to by the "Authorities" and at least they have now proved their case to those who didn't believe them at the time. The sheer numbers make it obvious that JS was up to no good whilst also doing good for some causes. Personally I always found the guy creepy but that is neither here nor there.
The problem now is with, once again, the British Media and the new British obsession with apologising for everything. Alistair Campbell makes it plain in his diaries his utter contempt for the bulk of the British media and it was he who coined the word "Wankfest" to describe how they carry on building up a story even without real evidence. He also tells how he advised Tony Blair not to pander to the media, not to apologise for every sin since Eve bit the apple and above all to fight the media every step of the way. Advice that Blair chose to ignore..... The end result being the Campbell gave up and left him.
Of course M'Learned Friends are getting in on the act ~ they are better at smelling money than my dog is at sniffing out food. censored:

Why the fvck should anyone at the head of the BBC be apologising? .... He wasn't there, he knew nothing about it. The man was still in school when this was going on, he was born in 1962. It simply ain't his fault. By all means have a proper investigation, name who knew what and let them say "Sorry" and if they can be proven to have been complicit in illegal activity bang 'em up for a few years.
Actually I don't give a fat rat's arse about any more "coming forward" with their sorry story. Don't tell the newspapers, don't tell the BBC. Tell the police.

Abuse of minors will never fully stop but it can be seriously reduced. Putting the stop to the famous being able to get away with it because of their 'celebrity' is a big step forward.
