Whatever they are aren't they just a load of nonsence ( except perhaps Pride of Britain which is humbling to say the least ).
But whether it is the Oscars , the Brits or your own work ones it is just nonsense, back slapping , acutely excrutiating and awkward.
I have just received an email to say I have been nominated for one at work in a particular category eeek: . I know not who has nominated me or why - just that I now have to be interviewed by the Chief Exec and Leader ....oh FFS nnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo noooo: noooo: noooo:

Unless there is a large pay rise included politely decline on the grounds that "I'm only doing my job and do not expect an award for simply doing what you pay me to do"
-
You could add that you are the team leader and it is a team effort ....... They like that sort of bullsh*t.
-
There are a number of awards , Team of the Year , Best Customer Service , Best External Partner etc which allows for that. This is not one of them noooo:
£1000 if you win your category.
I am still going to decline noooo:

That's what the awards for funny enough lol:

I completely understand Miss D's thinking. Too much embarrassment, too much bullsh*t and anyway even if it does carry a £1000 award (which seems to be open to doubt) by the time they've taxed it, she has paid for a new frock (for the "ceremony") and bought drinks all round there will be very little, if anything, left.

The cash is as good as yours! Thumbs:

Would that be £1,000 of taxpayers money?
These "Austerity measures" sure are severe...
(Although I have no doubt that Miss D deserves at least that)
-
They are severe and there are a whole heap more job cuts on the horizon early next year - we at least have to find £20 million more to cut next year and the same the year after noooo:
We have had no pay rises for 3 years and the performance management stuff has also effectively been frozen so no bonuses for staff that truly do deserve them. Any possible benefit packages have been removed.
Although we have lost a huge number of staff the workload has not diminshed and many services have carried on delivering the same for less - which perhaps some areas had a bit of 'slack' to do this but not many I can assure you. There is not often a week goes by where I have not done a 45 hour week for a contracted 36 hours . Overtime is also completely out the question - so this is unpaid.
Jobs have changed without a change of JD's or salary reviews. The view is essentially you are lucky to have a job if you don't like it leave - and that would be the same for most companies nowadays. The unions are fairly weak at the moment as people realistically cannot afford to go on strike and so apart from work to rule options are limited.
There is a hell of a lot of good will, loyalty and hard bloody work being done by people without recognition and I do genuinely believe that this needs to be acknowledged. But I don't believe an 'awards ' is the right way to do it.
Put that money together ( £5k in total) and do something to improve the building for all ( which is in a really poor state) or something similar.

happy100 This . I never planned to make old bones and it will go on for years. I expect to be dead soon. Serious The Boy will get mega life insurance from me and property. I shall advise him to emigrate. Canada is in reasonable shape

Acutely excrutiating and awkward understates it for me. Two trips up to "that there London" in the last two years to receive rewards on behalf of the team made then both the worst days of the year for me. Another one beckons in February and as the new "champion" on this aspect of the business, I'm told it's "essential" that I go. Fantastic food, great venue, but sod that, just post us the certificates and we'll stick 'em in the trophy cabinet with all the other bullshit that adorns it

We have a Champion in our midst cloud9:
-
An extremeley reluctant one!
On the lead up to the previous incumbents retirement, on three of the last four monthly meetings the subject of his replacement was discussed and I refused their "kind" offer. I missed the last meeting prior to him going, and it was decided that I will replace him. I didn't find this out until the minutes were distributed two weeks later
I will carry out all the duties as required, and enjoy them, it's the annual awards thing that just doesn't sit well with me
-
i used to run a national awards cerenony. most popular category was "biggest cock up"
