Almost feels as though Iam at present due to the horrendous lack of werk. Banghead Banghead Banghead
Tell you though, even IF I could afford not to werk, I just cannot EVER see me sitting back, reading my bank statements, doing a bit of gardening, leaning on the fence with me flat cap nattering to the neighbours, going down the P.O. for me pension every week, day trips to The Asda and B and great big bastard long Q, lah dee dah dee diddly dum dum.
Highlight of the week, down the oap club for 'luncheon' follwed by crown green bowling and a sherry! ::)

Well at least you've got frens to go the ale 'ouse with.
IF and when i go, it's usually on me own, 'cus i ain't got any frens anymore.
The only one I had has turned into a fuckin' 'pipe and slippers' merchant, wanting to sit at home all the time now, snoring in front of the tv whilst holding hands with his DARLING wife....FFS!!! Banghead
Come the summer though, he'll really push the bastard boat out, and polish his friggin' hoe and shuvel, and measure out the green contrasting lines on his bastard lawn. Shocked:

I think it depends on your outlook and interests ...........If you just sit in front of the gogglebox and wait for the grim reaper ...........But in Paphos there are over 10,000 retired ex-pats and not all are alkis.......all seems pretty happy ....(although most are tossers).....

NEVER a truer werd spoken.
I personally know several cases that fit that criteria VERY sadly.
Work ALL your bastard life, then croak it after a few weeks.
Pitiful and heartbreakingly sad.
I think this must be ferreting away in the back of me mind tbh.
I'd rather be deded than bored rigid, but I'd MUCH rather be out and about snufflin' and exploring, meeting sheeples here there and everywhere, grunting growling ansd snarling at evrythink that crosses me path like. evil:
Some folk tell me I'll give meself an 'eart attack with all me consatnt ranting and raving on me soap box, but i tell 'em NO, actually all this release of pent up frustration acts like a release valve, otherwise you just get SSSSSSSSSo stressed out, yu ticker explodes!

Most the ones I know are more active than me......(awaits BM )........

Anyhoo when you retire ..........you n Nick should get a motorhome and tour europe ... would make good TV ,,,,,,,,,,,,

It all depends on your interests. My mam and Dad moved over here a few years ago. Sold up in UK and rented a lovely bungalow in the village. I have never seen my Dad happier. He spent the days fishing off the rocks in the bay, swimming, ,snorkling, building fences at the donkey sanctuary, helping look after all the animals at the charity rescue place, a few beers with me when the footie/rugby was on, landscaping a gorgeous garden,, built me my aviary etc. He had a few stress related illnesses in the past which cleared up, he never looked healthier.
My mam, however was bored stupid cos the only thing that interests her is shopping and because they were no longer working, they had to mind the pennies.
Now they are back in England, my Mum went back to work, my dad had to get a crappy job and is now miserable.

All a fine balancing act that has to seemingly be tailored to ones own preferences. rubschin:
Dunno wtf I'm going to do.
Loads and loads I could do IF I had the dosh like. ::)
You'd never see me in here, as I'd be out in the wilderness's exploring the unknown andd visiting me furry frens well up north.. cloud9:
Meanwhiles., I need to werk to help me realise my ambitions to go the places i need to go

I retired ten years ago - I love every single day of it.... cloud9:
I wonder how I ever found time to do stuff when I was werking.... rubschin:
Of course there are downsides - like when a couple of mongs turn up, drink all yer booze and smash your house up - but apart from that... Thumbs:

Technically, although only turned 65 last July, I've been retired for 12 years now ...... Frankly I dunno how I ever found time to go to work.
What do I do? Well for a start I never go shopping and medication prevents me from drinking.
I manage to fill my days doing all the things I want to do and none of the things I can't be arsed with anymore.
Oh and I seem to have spend an enormous amount of time in hospitals.
-
@BM
That's all well and good, ESPECIALLY if you have things to occupy you that you thouroughly enjoy and are content with.
Trouble with me is most ofl the things i want to do ...travel to desolate parts mainly... are just too damned expensive, and me body problee is too creaky now anyway. sad32:
Absolutely NOWT around here enthralls me. noooo:
Town full of mongulated 12 fingered interbred retards whose main thrill of the week is a trip to McShittles, followd by a glass fight in the local shit'ouse and a jolly old 130 decibel 'sing song' on the way home down our road at 03:30am whilst lobbing their half empty ale glasses at your front room window or car.

I think I retired last year. Well I walked out of a shite job umpteen commuting miles away (great people though) and haven't really looked for work since
It helps that Mrs K did same thing a year earlier. Much as I like having the time to do stuff, I reckon if someone is in a worthwhile job where they make a difference (or they really need the money) then keep working. There's a buzz from doing work well that someone appreciates.

[serious]I used to be lucky enough to have The. best. Job. In. The. Whole. World. cloud9:
I made loadsamunny, had world-wide travel, new cars, an aeroplane and could do (almost) anything I wanted... cloud9: cloud9:
Yet being retired and living on meagre resources is infinitely better.... cloud9: cloud9: cloud9:
And I'm constantly reminded that we are only here once - and it might not be for as long as we think... sad24: [/serious]

Nail, bang, head.
I luv me job generally speaking, and most of the time, but the job doesn't seem to luv me anymore.
Sign of the times I guess. Everyone's tightening their belts, and I'm now seen as a 'luxury' seemingly (reading between the lines of the feedback) rather than a cure for them saving money. ::)
Just spoken to MM about it, and she complains about her life being dull, with no money, but as I said to her, she's got her whole life in front of her, with the prospects of a good job some time in the future too.

One other serious point: work doesn't only pay you money, it stops you spending money too as you're too busy to go shopping or eating at tea shops or having an extra week of holiday abroad etc
Could you go part time Growler? I don't mean only get work part of the time but you actually say you will not work on certain days of the week.

That's just reminded me of one particular instance actually.
Lickle independent arage i diid loads of werk for , back in the mid 90's....long since gone and demolished now sadly. sad24:, and the owner was well into his 80's, AND he had Parkinson's disease.
He kept going thouggh, shuffling about doing his paperwork and generally keeping an eye on business matters.
He was a shrewd ole buzzard, and kept his finger on the pulse.
He used to go to the quacks regulary, and he told me that the quack used to be amazed that he could carry on, and simply put it down to the fact that he was keeping busy and occupied.
He really was a tough old git, albeit quite poorly for many years, but extremelly pleasant to deal with.
He evntually got ripped off by a tosser that he put in charge of the car sales, and ended up having to close the business he'd run for over 60 years, selling Rootes Cars initially. cloud9:
6 months after finally closing the doors, he was dead.

Yea, I probably could tbh Stevie lad.
Been looking for a stop gap job, but it seems all the piggin' Poles have taken all the jobs 'round here. Banghead
Just a driving job 3 or 4 days a week would do me, and then if any of 'MY' work comes in, i could do that on the other free days.
BCA are looking for drivers...apparently.
Wages will be the bare minimum, but at least it gets me out and about, which is probably more than half the problem. eveilgrin:
Going to ring them in the morning.

Sad story
But surely you'd never get bored with all the shite to laugh at here
BTW all the smart advice is to avoid that brown bread in months issue is to retire slowly by cutting your hours more and more. I never had that option.
-
Probably the first real job I had was as a result of the top bod retiring and everyone else shuffling up the ladder. I never met him (top bod) but by all accounts he lived for his holidays in Spain. He'd planned his retirement out there and had everything lined up... He collapsed and died within 6 weeks I think it was eeek:
I have no plans for retirement and if I wish to stay where I live I'll continue werking until Mr Babble and Mr Dribble come a-visiting. I did have pension plans they were royally fvcked up thank you evil:

Looks like quite a few of us here don't want to retire.
Perhaps we should get together and start a company doing something? rubschin: Like buying, restoring and selling classic cars / motorbikes rubschin:

I have got chills and tears in my eyes. When I moved to Cyprus and went into the entertaiinment industry, it was a massive let down for my parents who called me a beach bum and kind of hoped iit was a fad that would pass. 13 years on I am still here and skint, but I love what I do.
We got offered a lot of money for our business a couple of years ago and I didn't even consider selling because there is nothing I want to do more than waht I do now. When my parents call it is only to lecture me on what I should be doing and where I should be in life by my age. They are ruled by the shite conformists of society who dictate the way you should live your life, without ever questioning why.
I don't have sky TV and on the first ever Christmas day I hosted, they had to leave early to watch the eastenders xmas special. 'nuff said.
The one question they never ask when they call to berate me and my life choices is "are you happy?"..........well for anyone who is interested....Yes, yes I am.

I will prolly get slated for posting this but hey why not. I haven't had a good slating for ages.
I have got chills and tears in my eyes. When I moved to Cyprus and went into the entertaiinment industry, it was a massive let down for my parents who called me a beach bum and kind of hoped iit was a fad that would pass. 13 years on I am still here and skint, but I love what I do.

not at all Miss C. It was excellent. Thumbs:

I don't see myself ever really retiring. I live in the middle of what I have always loved doing and can wander about poking my nose into it as much or as little as I want.
Sudden stops seem very bad news from what I have seen.

Thank you. I sort of posted it for you Growler. It had me in tears and I posted it on my youngest daughters wall, she is a bit lost a the moment.
She currently lives with her father and his wife. They pushed her into Uni which was doomed from the start, so she dropped out feeling a failure. Her father and step mother are damaging her beyond belief and I can't do a damned thing about it. cussing:

I left Uni after my first year. Well I came to Cyprus for the summer and never went back. I was pushed into it also. I never got the chance to really consider what course (at uni and in life) I wanted to take so settled for what Ma n Pa wanted, left, and have felt I let them down ever since.
Had I been given the time to make my own choices things may have ended differently. However, I'm glad they didn't.
