Title: Do we want a Premiership Calamity Football compo?
Post by: Steve on July 21, 2013, 11:23:59 AM
With just two weeks to season start, do we want a season long compo?

IMHO one based on results would be a bit dull but one based on least team calamities like sendings off, manager sackings, own goals etc in all competitions might be fun

I could volunteer my CDB prize rights as a prize

Any views?

Choosing teams could be interesting.  Better teams have more matches, more opportunities for calamities on the pitch but less off

I am reserving

Leeds for Baldy
Arsenal for Apey
Man U for me
West Ham for Uncle
Spurs for Tipsy

These are my thoughts

Give each team sponsor 100 points and they lose

10 points for a major calamity
 - club goes into administration
 - ground closed due to fire or other disaster
 - death other than natural causes during match at home ground

1 point for every run of the mill calamity for the club
- own goal
- sending off (manager or player)
- other ban of same (a Suarezism)
- relegation
- losing a game or tie by 5 clear goals
- losing a major player they wanted to keep (Rooneyism) as judged by Uncle

In any of these
- Premiership
- Championship
- FA Cup
- League Cup
- Champions League
- Europa League
- Community Shield

during the 2013/14 season

I'm thinking relegation should be a major calamity with a high deduction of points; it could be a "game changer" at season end.

Wot do others think?

My thought was that would over penalise the lower team owners

Too performance related?  Anyway It took me 2 hours last night to fine tune the display to all columns appear with a direct copy and paste from the spreadsheet.  Sorry I just can't squeeze any more columns in so or that to go in something else needs to come out.

If Tel wants to take it over fine.  I'm likely already in your Misty's bad books for this compo and it was a real wind up getting that display to just about work last night.

Replace CA ~ club goes into administration. If that happens you no longer lose any further points so as an extreme example if your team went bust right at the start then you'd probably win with 90 points.
Title: Re: Premiership Calamity Football compo?

But Portsmouth and Rangers and likely others played on when in administration.

I'd rather take out death at ground

Anyone got any ideas for how to have two owners of the same team (eg Leeds) without adding another column?

I have a cunning plan.

You can both have Leeds and we have a tie breaker rule for the event of two or more sharing the winning score.

Now all I have to do is come up with a cunning tiebreaker rule

Right an update with these key changes from the feedback

- Two or more allowed to have the same football team with the all new tie breaker rule (see below) where we each are invited to select a least calamitous premiership player
- Relegation becomes a major calamity
- Being knocked out of any cup competition your club takes seriously is a 5 point moderate calamity (IE for teams in Europe the league cup does not count)
- Death at ground removed

P      Team      Owner      CA      GC      REL      KO      OG      SO      OB      LG      LP      TOT
   1      Arsenal      Apey      0      0      0      0      0      0      0      0      0      100

Rules
Start with 100 points deducting 10 points for a major calamity for the club:
CA - club goes into administration
GC - ground closed due to fire or other disaster
REL- relegation

Deducting 5 points for a moderate calamity for the club:
KO - knocked out of a cup competition the club took seriously (IE for a club in Europe the League Cup does not count)

and 1 point for every run of the mill calamity for the club:
OG- own goal
SO - sending off (manager or player)
OB - other ban of same (eg a Suarezism)
LG- losing a game or tie by 5 clear goals
LP- losing a major player they wanted to keep (Rooneyism) as judged by Uncle

- Championship
- FA Cup
- League Cup
- Champions League
- Europa League
- Community Shield (not a cup competition)

The winner who will be awarded Steve right's to the CDB 3 prize is the
a) Last left with points
b) but if tied one, with most surviving points
c) but if still tied, one whose team has the highest place in respective league
d) but if still damn well tied, one whose selected least calamitous player * has the highest points score in the Official Premiership Fantasy football league - see http://fantasy.premierleague.com/. (http://fantasy.premierleague.com/.)
e) and if still sodding well tied, then Steve will toss a coin or summat to decide

* Must be selected on a first come first nabbed basis from any Premiership team by 1 day after the August transfer deadline ends or a randomly assigned striker will be assigned.

It was a cracking final

"all that work" was working out and writing up a tie break system we probably won't need now

If we both had the same team, in the unlikely event we became winners, it would always be a tie.  Shrugs:

Will launch the compo as a dedicated thread tomorrow before Swansea (anyone going to pick them?) have their first serious match ln the evening.

Anyone joining the compo after tomorrow will lose 1 point for every day and will not be able to name a club someone has already nabbed.  If Tipsy does go for Spurs that will count as on time.

With Baldy changing to Chelsea (thanks) the tie breaker rule will get simplified unless someone (Al?) comes in with a share team claim.  No one is allowed to have Southampton (Snoopy RIP entry)
