"Having holidayed in Pissouri Cyprus for the past 11 years as my family own 2 properties here I am saddened to report repeated attacks on our children by some of the local youths in the village. In previous years we had dismissed this as child's play but during this summer break my 14 year old son and his friend have been set upon on the local sports pitch, our quiet 17 year old son has had a double barrelled shot gun pointed at him outside a local bar. As adults we have enjoyed a very good relationship with the local people and have made some close Cypriot friends, who are disgusted by recent events.
There is a very sinister undercurrent displayed by some of the local youths, which we have noticed, is becoming more common on this visit, so much so, that we (17 in total) are now reluctant to frequent the village in the evenings. If you are considering visiting this picturesque Cypriot village and have children, please beware.

That is really sad news because I have always been impressed by the family values here - the way that get together's are (were) attended by all the generations (Nanna/Mum/children) and what I observed to be the care and concern extended across all.
Perhaps the youngster's reaching middle teens now are feeling frustrated also by the economics - low prospect of job employment, mum and dads purse strings being a bit tighter too
That said and taken in account it still does not excuse any form of intimidation (by any age to any age) and I am very sad to see/learn that it has been occurring anywhere on this island sad24:

Grandad worked hard in the fields to put food on the table for the whole family, his son bought a new Mercedes and an endless supply of whores (while his wife brought their children up), the kids just expect it all on a plate. Wankah:
Tough luck that it has all come down on the idiots....... Donkeys to Mercedes and back to donkeys again in less than three generations. lol: lol:

Sorry I forgot about that bit, together with the son was a waiter/taxi driver then became an architect within a fortnight (it should have been a week but he was busy with whores for some of the time noooo:).

Not saying that some of what you both are saying isn't true but also it just isn't their The Cypriot's) fault either....
Since we came 11 years ago we have also seen many changes in the 'quality' and 'attitude' of the immigrants arriving here to enjoy the sun shine island and, quite frankly, their manners, intelligence and general sociability are things of the past too.
I believe (and still do) that if you want to integrate into the local community it is possible but it is give and take on both sides and has to be done with respect for the generational island cultures
When I hear ex pat conversation about the ''slipriotts'' it makes me ashamed

Nope as even 11 years ago the majority of those running businesses spoke good English and then of course as more and more of us arrived we just began talking LOUDER and LOUDER to bring our point across so the need to converse in Greek was totally removed
We do have some small understanding of the language but mostly taught to us by our village Cypriot friends which is dialect different for every village............................
However I now get told off (by our daughter) when I go back to the UK because I no longer say Yes and/or No but use the local versions of Nay (for Yes) and Oxi (for no)...................
Even do the indifferent Cypriot should shrug, similar to the French FU shoulder shrug, when I wish to show indifference to a person or subject under discussion :-)

When we came here the Brits were a cash-cow for the Cypriots.... They sold us land, built us houses, maintained pools and gardens, did the plumbing, decorating, electrics, etc. Ran the restaurants, bars, shops....
It was a complete 'closed shop' as the Brits could only come here and 'retire'.... The only foreigners were the Eastern European 'cabaret' girls...
Joining the EU meant that all changed... now there are expats providing all those services in competition with the Cypriots...
It is inevitable IMHO that the modern generation of Cypriots don't view the expats in quite the same way....
