Title: "The Storm"
Post by: The Moan Ranger on October 27, 2013, 06:15:29 PM
So far, a few leaves have fallen off the trees in the garden...

...and the vast majority of train operators have cancelled everything before 9am...

I've put the wheelie bins in the garage and taken all my beer OUT of the garage and put it in the fridge. Just in case the garage blows away, like...  whistle:

[/serious mode] Like most runways in the south, the aspect is 080/260 which is pretty roughly the angle the winds tend to come from, so in terms of planes taking off/landing it's not really a problem as there will be little in the way of cross winds. The bigger problem, however, comes from the structures - the airbridges to the planes will be moving about in strong winds as will the fuselages of the planes and this can cause damage to plane and airbridge. Only because of that will the airport be shut.  The planes can land, but you cannot get the passengers off safely. [/serious mode off]

I landed at Turweston waaaaaay beyond the crosswind 'limits' of a Warrior.... whistle:

I had to look out of the side window to see the runway....  redface:

News just in from a mate at Gatwick who is in the "towing team" - they might be required to tow the standing planes off the terminal stands and into the 260 track  ;D  And then chock ALL the wheels, not just the nose wheels.

There will be about 55 planes on the deck by 01:00. Good luck!  ;D ;D ;D

Oh, and then put them back again in the morning  NickSick

Power off since 6, one main road was blocked but we still got to back quack on time

Several small trees seem to have gone. All in all it was what they said it'd be "not the weather you get every year"

You have to admire (not) the 'great' British attitude of sitting in their cars watching workmen clear trees when they'd get past sooner if they helped

I had the chance to use my BIG chainsaw today in the rescue of the Good Life family, who had a large tree across their drive.

I arrived over the field on the quad with the saw strapped across the front.

While you are at it, set up a charity for the support of latent bedwetting, drooling, speccy , 4 pint maximum, overweight, ginger shambles.  Who were very obviously bullied at school and in act of putrid reprisal decided to make education a chosen career path even though being as suited to the job as King Herod to babysitting.

Evening all, and a few good mornings, afternoons and afternoons I've missed too

Hectic at work at the moment with closing one contract and starting up the next one, 18hr days to get everything up and running have been the norm for a while now. Couple that with no electric from 0545hr's Monday till 0025hr's this morning kept me away from here. "No rest for the wicked" and all that, works stuff is going on in the background as I type on this particular keyboard. I is the Rick Wakeman of the VP
