Title: The VP Scottish Independence referendum

What do we think?

I voted 'Yes'...

Everything has changed now.... even if the referendum vote is 'No' we'll swiftly move into the Neverendum phase until they get what they want...

Then they'll either decide that they may as well leave - being in effect an independent country anyway - or the rUK will insist that they do.....

Same here.

Let them have a go on their own and see how they get on.  eveilgrin:

I was against separation until recently when Westminster decided to give more devolved powers to Scotland if they stay. To me it seems that the Scots will get their cake and eat it as well. (with us southerners paying) Let them go I say.

The vindictive part of me wants to see the bastards go and then get themselves in deep shit over currencies, visas, passports, the EU, the economy, taxation and everything else. BUT the economic and constitutional damage to us would be immense, so no.

I have reached the point where I"m indifferent to the whole thing as either way the rest of the UK is screwed. If there is a yes vote then the ramifications for what is left of the UK politically, culturally and economically will be massive. On the other hand, if there is a no vote then Cameron, following in the tradition of PM's with Scottish connections we will be made to pay for luxuries for the Scots that we are not entitled to here such as free university places and prescriptions.

I have to admit there is a part of me that wonders if there is a basis for a legal challenge about these payments as it discriminates against the rest of the UK who are denied free access to these services...

I'm with you on this one, except that I don't believe that there would be any economic damage, each Scot already costs the taxpayer £1,600 p.a. more than it spends on each person in England. As for the constitution, the pollies have been riding roughshod over that since the Blair government.

I do have a question about the whole thing, the Barnett Formula was set up in 1978 and was only meant to be a short term plan. Why the hell are we still using it over 30 years later? Hell even Lord Barnett says that it is an embarrassment and wishes that his name had never been attached to it.  cussing:

The Queen receives Alex Salmond at Balmoral....
HMtQ: How nice to see you Mr Salmond.
AS: Nice to see you Ma'am. Now what are we going to call Scotland when we win Independence? how about calling it a Kingdom. and then I'll be a King?
HMtQ: No, we don't like that.
AS: Empire then, and I'll be Emperor?
HMtQ: No, we don't like that either.
AS: Alright, so how about calling it a Principality, and then I'll be a Prince?
HMtQ: No Mr Salmond, may I suggest we just call it a Country?

Yesterday was a unique day in Scotland’s history.

The vast majority of the population not only got up in the morning, but actually left the house to go somewhere other than the pub.

In all honesty while I've been indifferent to the whole build up I'm relieved the vote was no. If Scotland had gone it's own way then the Cornish nationalists would have been next to try and the idea of those inbred headcases walking round in Cornovi tartan flashing anyone they think may vote for them is jjust too horrific to contemplate. When you see the 'Cornwall for the Cornish' cockwomble one it's pretty clear that they haven't taken a bride from outside their village since somewhere around the 1700's.

There used to be a militant arm (it did have the nickname of the Inbred Retard Army in some circles) but it fizzled out years ago because they couldn't be taken seriously. I mean for starters the west country accent does not do angry plus they were just idiots. You would hear in the news that they had decided to burn down a branch of the Bristol and West in some Cornish town but somehow had managed to confuse it with a local hair salon and torched that instead.

I see that the hate filled bile spewing little gobshite has also shown himself to be (surprise surprise) a sore loser with no integrity. After conceding the vote and promising to work towards uniting Scotland he now comes out with a diatribe on how they are already being betrayed and that they can obtain independence next time without having a referendum.  Banghead

In all honesty I'm not surprised that he pulled something like this. I mean, come on, did everyone think that Salmond would just slink off into obscurity after losing the vote?
