I tried to log into my laptop earlier and was presented with that message. Google it. Most of the "answers" provided - even by Microsoft - didn't work.

As bad or worse as when the work IT administrator used to delete profiles as the default way to fix any error?

Luckily it didn't come to that - some regedit tinkering eventually fixed it. And I hate tinkering with regedit...there be demons.
