Title: New phone
Post by: Pastis on September 05, 2007, 10:58:54 PM
Well, new for me... Sony Ericsson W580i, a free upgrade from T-Mobile.

Here if you want to look (http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=us&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10856)

Very cute, works as a phone should, has a Radio for transport updates, slide away keypad avoiding those embarrasing 'sit on the phone re-dial moments"  eeek:, tells me how far I've walked if in pocket  eeek: (intriguing) and get this...

Shuffles your playlist when you shake it !    eyes:  I like it  cloud9:

To be fair, any phone I get here I buy and own.  whistle:

So the phone is not under contract from the telephone company ? they just charge me CY?1 per month for the SIM.

So while ?free? phones are not available in the long run it works out significantly cheaper.  cloud9:

Five years ago I bought myself a 'phone "on offer" for ?15. Pay as you go variety. Never spend more than ?2 a month on calls, often half that. No point in having all the gadgets, I wouldn't use them.

It would be better if apple hadnt made a total balls of the set up. Its things like no bluetooth which means that you cant have a handsfree kit for it which will bugger up using it in a car, the simlock set up they have where they are actively taking legal action against any individual or company that has figured out how to unlock the phone to all networks because they are after exclusive deals with certain providers. Every other mobile company accepts that if they release a phone on a limited number of networks then some bright spark is going to crack it so why not apple?

Strange you should say that, but no. I get...

"Jmal, im dat you?"  or

"Oi, Dave, where's that f*ckin' paint, then?"  or

"Himja, spek ji no tulla Franja, gulii?"

However, the best are the 'inadvertant' re-dials from people you know  ;) where they've sat on the phone or squeezed it in some way.

The best I had went to voice message and there were 2 minutes of this guy walking down the road with the sound of "corduroy on corduroy"  (from trousers) accompanied by street vendors and snippets of conversation.  eeek:

Check the connecting points on the cover and the case itself, you may find that something has snapped off or been bent out of place.

Been to the O2 shop, (there is some very nice totty in Sutton today, must be the sunshine), but no joy. If the young whipper-snappers can't get it to fit then I've got no chance, glasses or not. Mind you, I don't think that they were exactly familiar with that model anyway.

The O2 shop in Sutton!!! That's down the dodgy end too isn't it?

And as TMR points out the fact that it's better than Mitcham is no recomendation!
Down? It is the southern end, but it is up the hill, as in up the high street.
Spent quite a few years living/working there, before the explosion of pubs and bars.

It is now on the right hand side of the high street as you go up the hill, just by the dance school, sort of opposite Costa Coffee.

So by the "dodgy end" you mean the bottom of the high street, where Asda is?

It is my opinion that the whole of Slutton High Street is dodgy. We are merely talking degrees of dodginess.

Perhaps, Wench had a bad experience there. Maybe Mr Wench took her into the Red Lion.
Can't really say that one end is dodgier than the other. Some half decent pubs in the back streeets if you venture that far, and one or two decent places to eat as well.
New police station is all nice and shiney, God knows what they have stored in there though.

We lived in Sutton for a year and we still go shopping there most weeks. The dodgy Asda is an end we try to avoid.  eeek:

Back streets? Which pubs would those be? Always on the look out for a new pub now that our local in Cheam is on the way down.

Would that be The Harrow or the Ye Olde Red Lion? The Bell? Don't think it would be the Railway. My sister and her family go to The Harrow, but I think that is more for somewhere to eat rather than a place to have a drink.
Sutton - do you know The Robin Hood, New Town, Nightingale?
If it was me I would bypass Sutton and try around Carshalton, still some nice pubs around there.

To be fair, any phone I get here I buy and own.  whistle:

So the phone is not under contract from the telephone company ? they just charge me CY?1 per month for the SIM.

So while ?free? phones are not available in the long run it works out significantly cheaper.  cloud9:

Not on my plan! I signed up for it seven years ago and they have spent the last three trying to get me off it!  lol:

What do you pay then?

Just seen this of page one!  redface:

?15 a month, 50 free mins of calls a day that roll over if I don't use them and a text bundle of 50 a month that also rolls over. Plus a free upgrade to my handset every year or money towards a trade in. The only time I go over the ?15 is when I use my phone abroad.

The Harrow mainly The Bell is Sunday afternoon pub because of the pool table. Red Lion is a bit too far to walk. We went in the Railway Saturday night because we knew we would get seats.  scared2: It's a scarey place. Up for sale though for a very reasonable price. If they could sort out who owns the scrub land to the side and behind it and you would be allowed a pub garden it could be a decent investment.

Basically it's Ashtead, Cheam, Sutton, Wimbledon or Putney.

Might try the Robin Hood. It is rather close.  redface:

Don't know Ashtead. Wimbledon/Putney - a few years since I went drinking around there.
Don't really drink in Sutton since moving away from there - used to drink in what you term the dodgy end, knew plenty of people so never had a problem. Currently, prefer the pubs around Carshalton & Wallington, better places if a tad expensive at times (Youngs, please note), and by and large
better people. Would rather pay the extra if it means the scumbags can't afford to drink there.

It was the latter and made all the better by the fact that the switchboard went loop, displayed my name on someone elses phone and would not let anybody connect to me. I am responsible for the switch as well, but this was not deliberate.
