Title: Things that just disappear
Post by: Nick on September 09, 2007, 08:58:44 AM
Happens a lot in our house, and I usually get the blame. Mrs Nick's specs, three sets of house keys, the address book. All vanished.

Now it is an entire sofa cover. WHEN did that go walkies and WTF can it be? Mrs Nick reckons I have thrown it out, but why would I (even bother to) do that? I will have to go a hunting shortly. confused:

No. evil:

Mrs Nick is convinced I have hidden it from her. SHe even insisted on searching my car (and found the evacuated fire extinguisher thingy in the boot - which caused further "questioning"). I am about to go an search her car. Angry9:

We once spend months looking for Mrs Snoopy's old "Nursery Carpet" ~ cotton, large and v expensive to buy nowadays. Then we remembered that the Fire Brigade had used it to stop up a hole in the roof of our last house, when a storm brought half the chimney down through the tiles. The Brigade (just to give the details for those who I know will demand them) had been summoned as there was a danger of further damage (a gale was blowing and it was 2 o'clock in the morning ~ you try finding a builder). The Fire Officers bunged up the hole with a "Bit of old carpet we found in the loft" and then sheeted the roof with tarpaulins ~ leaving us to get it sorted the next day. Heroes all I felt at the time. BUT the point is we forgot about the carpet until we came to look for it after we moved two years later. It then took months before the penny dropped.
I should search any out buildings, attics, lofts and garages as well Nick. It'll be there somewhere and then someone will clap a hand to their forehead and say "Of Course ~ don't you remember when ..... "  doh:
Go back over every leak, draught, cover needed in a hurry for whatever reason, that has happened since you last saw it. That's what we ended up doing

Anyway we already know whose going to be to blame don't we?  whistle:

I can't imagine we used the sofa cover to repair the roof - not even we would do that! And we don't let the Fire Brigade in.

I think it must be in a cupboard somewhere (unless Mrs Nick has put it in her loft). She insisted we search the cellar earlier too. No sign.

I can hear her rummaging upstairs now. SHe may even find her specs!

(unless Mrs Nick has put it in her loft).

Her loft?  eeek:

You have His & Her lofts?  noooo:

An ex girlfriend of mine once hid my watch on the grounds that I was obsessed with timing  evil:. I stupidly complied for a couple of days and then, experiment over I asked for it back. Guess what?

I managed to lose her too not long after  evil:

No, I have no loft.

This is getting worse. She announced a short time ago that she was going out to get a birthday card. She then came back and tapped me for some cash BECAUSE SHE HAS LOST HER HANDBAG!

The Boy wanted to go with her but evidently changed his mind at some late stage. I now discover that she has taken both her and my house keys. I am locked in the house and The Boy is outside yelling through the letterbox that he "needs the toilet." I can do nothing shrugs:

I have just yelled at him to go in the garden. Hope it's only a Number one eeek:

Y'Know I have a feeling that given a half decent jury you could shift the blame for most of your "troubles" onto Mrs N. Is it a case of opposites attracting or like seeking like is the only question I have left about your relationship.
Title: Re: Things that just disappear
Post by: Nick on September 09, 2007, 04:39:56 PM
It's more liked "armed neutrality" noooo:

She has now got back and The Boy is back inside. SHe enquired as to why he was locked out of the house  noooo: SHe came back because she forgot to take something else vital with her. I don't know what "it" was, but I know from her evasive manner that she has no idea where "it" is. More rummaging and running about.

Ah, she has just run out of the house again and the car has whizzed off. And yes, this time she has locked us both in! Banghead

Doesn't everybody?

TBH We have two "canteens" of cutlery. Both are housed in separate trays with little dividers for each item ie One for Knives, one for Forks, One for dessert spoons, one for soup spoons etc. It really annoys me to put my hand in and withdraw a spoon instead of a fork because the kids have 'filed' them wrongly.

Not us. A place for nothing and nothing in its place. We should get Berek over to organise the place.

Our cutlery drawer has dividers too. Forks, knives, spoons. Unfortunatly Mr Wench grew up in a house where it was spoons, forks, knives.  Banghead How long does it take to retrain?

Back on topic - I think this is the right thread - I moved house a year last June and among all the things that were transited, there was a pen.

It was no ordinary pen.  It was a solid 22ct gold Parker with Corps Diplomatique engraved on it (Don't ask) and sentimentally priceless.

I thought I had better take great care with moving it as it could easily become lost and I distinctly remember holding it in my hand and thinking I need an extra special place to put this...

And - of course - I have never laid eyes on it since.   I have spent a year searching, I had the opportunity of throughly searching where it came from and have searched all boxes and containers minutely - where on earth could I have put it so safely?   confused:

Check your wardrobe .... it may well be in a jacket pocket. Alternatively try all of Mrs Bouncer's handbags.

If not, like Nick's Cover, ask "The Borrowers" if you can have it back. They may want a trade though.

Before we moved to Cyprus I packed all my tools up in three metal tool boxes. As all the goods were going to be in storage for a year before our house was finished I closed each box with a brand new Yale padlock and stored the keys away safely.

Twenty-two months later (the house was late) we unpacked everything but of course couldn?t find the padlock keys. We too searched ?everywhere? but couldn?t find the keys in any of the other boxes which we unpacked. Eventually a week or so later I had to give in, buy a bolt cutter and cut the locks off.

The very next bastard day we found the keys!    cussing:

Blimey, a thread that is more or less on topic?  eeek:

It is purple? bought it for the daughter then bought it back again  eeek: when she wanted to upgrade. We keep it in the UK as it saves us a fortune on car hire when we are there.

Not quite the street cred of the Jaguar but it works.  ;D
