So we have the usual services provided by Virgin for t'internet , tv and fone etc.
There customer service is beyond awful and now this weekend they appear to have been in dispute with UKTV over spondoolies and a load of channels are no longer available.
Some regurgitated blurb about why this has happened but lines have definitely been drawn and their squabble looks like it will go on for a few days.
Anyways was the decider for us in terms of changing and so have been shopping around. Are there recommendations out there ( apart from the Cypriot Nasa satellite option )
Was in a queue for 50 minutes this morning waiting to speak to a Virgin media advisor. The 1st question ..."why do you want to leave ?" angry041: angry041: angry041:

We've been with Sky for over 25 years, have two twin channel HD receivers (yep hers and his), signed up for their mobile phones last year and for a mere £120 a month we get stonking TV, a free iPhone and all the calls, texts and data we seem to be able to use
But I would love to have that Virgin TiVo receiver (no cable out here in the sticks) and it has to be said that Sky won't let anyone sign up now for Sky-HD, you have to have Sky-Q which while technically amazing is still said to have more bugs to be sorted
If I were you I'd stick with Virgin and use Freeview for those missing channels until the two sides kiss and make up. Or you could even get a FreeView recorder to use as well as the Virgin receiver

There is discussion about Sky not needing a dish soon isn't there ???
Was considering doing a 12/ 18 month high speed cable option for t'internet and phone from BT and then hopefully go Sky when we don't have to have a dish.
I have properly had enough of Virgin censored: censored: censored:

Sky are trying to get out of the Satellite business into braodband delivery but it'll be years and years as their main customer base is still the HD sat receivers. Anyway will your man be happy watching supposed live football that is even further behind the actual action than HD feeds are?
We use BT for phone and broadband and it's good. They even used to giveaway a half decent Freeview recorder (YouView) but last year they did a massive software update for it and effed it up. The latest software fix has led to many users reporting that it fails to record. They will sort it but maybe not this side of 2020.
But before you junk that Virgin box, no one does user interfaces better than TiVo

Yep
£80 a month for Sky full package ie all the Sport, Entertainment and Movies (Actually that may have just gone up)
£10 a month for 'Sky extra room' which makes the second box work off the same subscriptions
£10 a month each for mobile phones accounts (free calls, texts and 1GB a month each)
£10 a month to get a free iPhone every 2 years
Don't think there's a legal way to get that lot cheaper, don't think there's anything we'd happily give up. We spend far more a month on going out.
