Thanks guys cloud9:
Just had to administer my first injection on the poor fella...don't think he was too impressed with my novice skills and me saying this will hurt me more than it hurts you lol:
-
Injection eeek: eeek: Did you wear a nurse uniform? eyes:
-
After all the medication and laxatives he has had to take today I don't think that would have been wise ;D
-
sad32:
Still, he has real nurses to look forward to whistle:
-
Miss D, speaking as someone with more than his share of major ops your man is good hands

Injection eeek: eeek: Did you wear a nurse uniform? eyes:
Nurse... Drool:

Thinking of you both for tomorrow Miss D, that injection malarkey sounds right unfair. I suspect he'll be on anti coag injections for a month afterwards but you and him will get used to it
-
sad32:
Still, he has real nurses to look forward to whistle:
He does deserve a treat lol:
He is having his surgery at the Cromwell hospital which is the BUPA hospital but the NHS are using it during covid. Therefore he has his own room with en-suite , free wifi , large TV with full Sky package ( movies and sport included) , his choice of newspaper delivered daily etc . He will also have a nurse on call and checking on him every hour during the day and every 2 hours at night lol:
He may not want to come home after a week there rubschin:

You are indeed right - I have a whole month of administering daily injections to perfect my technique when he gets home rubschin:

Update - so during surgery they also accidentally cut his bladder apparently - so his stay in hospital may be extended as they are worried about internal bleeding - he is also on a catheta in his man parts until they want to test that this is working ok . So that is a front and back attack on the poor lad.
He is heavily dosed on morphine and being very reasonable at the moment lol: - time to ask for all the things I want I think lol:

Ooh that unkind cut doesn't sound good. Catheters though are routine after surgery, you just get used to walking around with a bag on your leg.
Watch the morphine, it can give him industrial grade constipation. I found intravenous liquid paracetamol worked well.
-
Morphine good  Catheter not so. Always used to pester the doctors to have it removed ASAP.

I discovered I was allergic to Morphine after my hernia op... Shocked:

I was going to say what a time to find out but I guess it will always be 'one of those' times to find out if you are being given morphine ( in a medical and not recreational setting lol: )

I have just rung the hospital as obviously when trying to speak to The Man it is difficult as he is drugged up , nauseous and not with it at all - and therefore my numerous questions are unable to be answered.
Get through to the ward and some bloke comes on and says the doctor is with him now - but he has been vomiting all over the place this morning and they have had to clean it up .
So sorry for the inconvenience like ::)
So start to ask if they could explain in more detail what the issues are -
" yes - his bowel is not working "
Ok , keep calm ... start to ask how common this is and what will be done to alleviate this situation
" Oh the doctor is with him now , he is putting tube up his nose and into stomach "
Ok , keep clam .... ask if that is to help provide food / fluids or to remove blockage
"Oh the doctor is with him now "
Ok , keep calm ask when would be the best time to speak to someone ( else)
" Oh you can ring (The Man) you know he has a mobile phone"
Ok, keep calm ...explain I know he has a mobile phone but due to the fact he is drugged , vomitting and tubed up it is often not easy to speak to him"
"yes , ring him ( The Man ) about half past two . He really did vomit a lot this morning !!! "
Thank you, goodbye Banghead cussing: Banghead

Despite the cretin on the phone, he is in the best place to get it sorted and the specialist doctors are pretty good.
We are all thinking of you both.

-
This all sounds horrid noooo:
Don't tell Nod lol:
-
All gone a bit quiet scared2:
-
So he is still in horsepickle.
Had a telephone conference yesterday with the consultant and The Man which was a bit difficult with trying to hear properly with all the hustle and bustle going on there noooo:
She confirmed that they didn't 'accidentally ' cut his bladder during the op but actually saw a small section which they thought contained diseased cells and removed that at the time. I don't understand why they wouldn't have just said that - I am getting frustrated by the 'information management ' noooo:
So he hopefully should be discharged either Tues / Wed next week and then we have an appt on the 10th May with oncologist to sort out chemotherphy treatment. In a few months he has to have another scan on the bladder to see if anything else needs to be done but as they have already removed the affected bit and he would have had chemo not sure what that would involve - but we shall cross that bridge when we come to it .
He was keen to say his physio has said he can't do any housework for 6-8 weeks. lol:
He is starting to eat solid foods - today he asked for a light snack for dinner . They provided this lol:

Love the 'light' meal ;D
Sounds a lot more encouraging but he's going to take time to recover esp with chemo, will he be allowed to watch tomorrow's match?

So The Man has been given parole from horsepickle and we will collect him later.
His mate is a black cab driver and has offered to pick him up as the space in the vehicle might be easier for him . Makes sense but means he has to pick me up first and then the long journey into town will no doubt consist of a long monlogue of how hard cabbies have had it, fffing cyclists and the Loon Lord Mayor etc - just don't get him started on Uber either noooo:

So proper rubbish night last night.
It would seem that the Man's ankle has now swollen up and is too painful to walk on , and he needs to start walking to get more mobile after op. He is taking the daily injections for anti blood clotting but as soon as something like this happens you start thinking about DVT etc.
Anyway go to sleep about midnight, get woken at 2 . Cold compress applied and elevation of leg etc . Start to go back to sleep and then get asked to go and get more pain killers etc. Faffing around til about 4 and then go try to go back to sleep. Get woken at 5 for assistance to help him up to go to the loo. Takes forever.
Go back to bed then half an hour later my alarm goes and off I trot downstairs to start work . The man baby has been sleeping soundly since then.
I my need the divine gods of patience to be nice to people today lol:

I wonder how the Man is rubschin: rubschin: Perhaps he is up to doing a little light hoovering and ironing

noooo: noooo: noooo:
He is ok but getting a little fed up. Trying to get out for a little walk every day but other things have started playing up like his back, ankle etc which is getting him down.
Then its just managing all the appts. We had to go to do blood tests yesterday at some other surgery as our practice still is not operating a 'full service' ( you get the sense that most GP practices quite like not 'seeing' people and this will never go back to how it was noooo:) .
So Friday we have to go to Hillingdon hospital for a appt with nurse. Next Monday we have to go to St Marks hospital for appt with Oncologist to go through the chemotherapy treatment and when that will begin hopefully . Then Tuesday go to Central Middlesex hospital for a follow up appt with consultant surgeon . Then back to the other place again on Wednesday for the weekly blood tests noooo:
For each appt you get at least 2 confirmation letters in post noooo:
This is our social life now lol:
-
Welcome to my world! I get letters and text message reminders noooo: Give him some ironing therapy

The good news though is he's getting the appointments without having to chase
Will he by any chance make a magic recovery for 8pm tomorrow?
-
Apparently that is good therapy lol:
Although he has deferred his season ticket for 21-22 to the following year scared2:

So yesterday we had an appt with Oncologist. Woman sitting down in office with file notes in front of her etc. So we sit down . No introductions – she launches in with the “ Can you tell me your appraisal of what has happened so far and what you think are your results “
So the man gives a quick summary of what we think we know. Then she starts to carefully and slowly repeat this whilst looking at the paperwork and pulling more concerned faces. She looks at me and ask me what is wrong and so I simply say that I am obviously waiting for her to deliver some bad news as she seems to be leading up to this .
She doesn’t respond. Start going through the surgery results and talking of cells that could become active in the lymph nodes etc. Then starts going on about chemo and the implications and 50% chance of return without and 25% return if have chemo etc.
There was nothing positive in her demeanour at all . Then the nurse says oh I will go and get the Oncologist now !!! WTF - so you would presume she is in training - not that she clarified anything at this point. Along comes the Oncologist and goes through stuff in a bit more detail – but my god we both came away yesterday feeling so low with all sorts of fears and dreads bubbling away.
Today we had an appt with the surgeon who performed op. She gave a completely different perspective and was focusing on the positives and next steps and making it all manageable etc.
I totally appreciate they have to go through the whole spectrum of scenarios to ensure you are fully informed but what you can’t teach is ‘bedside manner’ noooo: noooo: noooo:

Simpy awful. If it helps, they do tend to go for worst case scenarios, but some of them seem to lack basic human communication skills noooo:

So this morning we have received a copy of a letter that the Oncologist has sent to the Surgeon (and that is being supplied to the GP)
There are 2 pages of medical blah blah and then she says to the surgeon " thank you for referring this nice man " rubschin:
Just struck me as odd and also what would they say if the patient was a pigging mare to deal with rubschin:

That is absolutely standard now. Every letter I get refers to me as "this charming/delightful gentleman" cloud9: cloud9: (Prolly autofill). Still, a step up from "nice" rubschin:
He should write one of his blogs whistle:
It is probably code of the NM or NFN kind

So chemo has started for the Man.
Half day session in God's waiting room and then home with pump to keep administering the stuff and then back to horsepickle 2 days later to get disconnected.
However the poor fella wakes up and and gets an unsettling feeling of damp around him eeek: .. But this is in the arm area where the tubing all is . Rings hospital and has to go in straight away , where after a whole day of being there, they confirm they hadn't attached the chemo properly noooo:
A couple of days later his arm starts swelling and getting red. He rings the hospital again and they say could just be where the chemicals got on his skin but come in anyway.
Turns out he had a blood clot at the top of his arm where the blood is trying to navigate around the tubing. noooo:
Ultrasounds and more scans and now he has to take another course of injections at home for the next 30 days but the size of these needles is horrific noooo: - I admit I wimped out and can't do them noooo: So the poor fella is having to do them himself but they are really hurting.
Next chemo session tomorrow ... surrender:

SOunds awful for you both happy100

So finally some good news ...she tenatively says scared2:
The Man had to go for MRi/ CT and all the other scans last week . We had the consultants appt yesterday and had that sense of dread that something will be concerning - given the way everything else has been.
Anyways - results have come back and confirmed there is no cancer nastiness in his body anymore .
Due to this they are happy for him to take a break from the chemo to allow us to go away for 5 days after the wedding ( just down to Dorset coast cloud9: )
He can then return and chemo should be completed beginning of Sept
He's coming home lol: lol: lol:
