Why does he want the Turks in the EU? I don't see any economic advantages.

I said "economic". And they are Islamic. So we can get a whole new wave of Turkish immigrants to supplant the Poles and Latvians.

Currently the Turks are a "Secular Society" and in NATO so have been providing bases etc from which we can attack Iraq/Iran etc. They also, historically, hold the Russians at bay in the Eastern Med. Refuse them entry and they will form a huge power base in the Middle East that will allow many who would harm us access to the Med and the soft underbelly of Europe as well as Northern Africa. Traditionally we have either fought the Turks or tried to keep them onside. This seems to me to be one of the onside times. Economically they are probably no worse than many we have already let in and certainly no worse than we look likely to be in a few more years.
