Title: "With my knapsack on my back"
Post by: Uncle Mort on October 04, 2007, 10:05:36 AM
What is it with knapsacks? You’re a commuter on a train, you’re not going to be climbing Mount Everest so just get that bloody great big knapsack out of my face.

OK?

What has happend to the "great Terrorist Threat" anyway. Hasn't the government any bad news to bury at the moment?

It has gone a bit quiet on the crazed bombers front. I think the McCann case is keeping some of the real news out of the papers. I predict that when the body is found the bombers will return.

1) Regular travelers of public transport carry a lot of things with them because you never know how long you may get caught for.

2) Regular travelers of public transport wear bags that keep their hands free so that in the case of sudden stoppage/gropping/tripping you can deal with it.

I'm a regular traveller and I do neither.

How long would you expect to be delayed on a train to need 'supplies'? And once on the train I put my briefcase on the luggage rack. Half the knapsacks wouldn't even fit on the rack. What are they carrying around?

2 books, litre of water water, lunch, umbrella, make-up. I also have to carry a change of clothes when it rains because I regularly get drenched by bloody drivers swerving through puddles.

Two books in case I finish one. I got stuck without reading material for 40 mins before I even got on a train last week.

I drink a litre of water on the way to work most days.  redface:

I only do the first. On occasion I do the sixth but only during terrible delays. I agree the rest are terribly annoying as are readers of broadsheets who flick them at you.

A lot of laptop bags are now knapsack style, the idea being that it makes it harder for some chav scrote to rip it off your arm. It could be that most of the knapsacks youa re seeing are this kind of bag.

Also, it is better for your back to carry things that way.

About this "Gropping".

If it aids dealing with being gropped, does it not also make life easier for the gropper?

Friggin laptop rucksacks - our team of officers has had 40 laptop rucksacks delivered this week.
This is to accommodate their brand spanking new laptops which will 'facilitate' them working from home.

How many problems do you think this would cause. They all were ordered corporately from the same supplier therefore there was no choice. However supplier ran out half way through order and had to supply a couple of others that were not quite of the same spec before the rest of the order was filled with like for like rucksacks.

FFS - 38 rucksacks delivered - 2 were slightly different (they had a metal key ring, waist strap and  most importantly and this was the deal breaker an ipod / headphone connector)

You have never seen a fuss like it. People trying to reorder - fat chance . People trying to damage their own so they could get a replacement.

I have now got so fed up I have told them if they don't like what they have they can go down the road and buy something themeselves out of their own pocket.
