Title: Things that break prematurely
Post by: GROWLER on October 14, 2007, 12:29:11 PM
First high power jet wash....alledgedley the best, a Karcher. Burnt out in 18 months. ::)
2nd.... B & long Q's own jet wash. Lasted 4 years granted, but it's problee only had about 20/30 hours use in total, and THAT has now coughed its' clogs today. evil:
Doesn't appear to have burnt out, but it's stopped workin'. What do i do? Strip it down and look for a loose wire, and waste hours looking for a fault, or chuck it on the tip like the other one?
Checked the fuse, and waggled the plug, but nowt.

It's simply NOT good enough that these machines last so short a time. noooo:

I have had a Karcher for about 18 years.  Admittedly not heavy use but after the first year or so... it wouldn't start without a little help.   So... I drilled a hole in the handle to store a 4" nail which I used to spin the fan.  Once I started it, it would run OK for the session until the next time I wanted it.  It was irritating but predictable, I never bothered to replace it for the sake of a ten-second start up routine a few times a year.

On the other hand you could do what I do and run the vehicle through the local car wash once a month and have it valeted once a year. Another effective alternative is a bucket and sponge.
Why do you have to complicate everything with these "must have" toys when you know they don't ever work?
Barnum had it right ~ One born every minute. ::)

You haven't seen the crud that gets on my vehicles after a trip down 'The Swamp' have you?
Bucket and sponge? happy001

Now get back in your kennel with a nice juicy bone, and come back out when you know what you're talkin' about. OK? cloud9:

Uhm ~ You are not the first person to own an off road vehicle and use it off road you know.
A garden hose with adjustable nozzle was good enough for my purposes but it's your money.

I used mine for outdoor washing facilities and paths, roofs and stonework, pools and caravans - indispensable.

I hear the ones with the purple top have better suction than those with a yellow one.

According to a Which survey reported in the press some weeks/months (doesn't time fly) ago Dyson are not only the most expensive vacs but also the most complained about. Whether people felt more obliged to complain when they went wrong because of the high cost of the purchase whilst those who bought cheaper machines simply binned them and bought another cheapo doesn't seem to have been explored.

On the subject of suction allied to colour of top perhaps LL could enlighten us. Is BM a purple or yellow top?
