Odds are Wenchy has a look in here thinking its a Harry Potter title whistle: In fact its the official title of the new James Bond film. How the title is meant to allude to his state of mind I've got no idea rubschin:
The next James Bond film is to be called Quantum of Solace, producers have confirmed.
The title is taken from one of a collection of short stories published by 007 creator Ian Fleming in 1960.
Producer Michael Wilson said the film would have "twice as much action" as 2006's Casino Royale, which saw Daniel Craig debut as the iconic secret agent.
The next outing, previously known by the name Bond 22, is partly being shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
At a press conference at the facility, reporters were shown a minute of footage from the new film, including Bond swinging on a rope after an explosion at an art gallery in Siena, Italy.
Another scene showed him meeting M - played by Dame Judi Dench - outside in the snow.
Filming on the movie has been taking place at Pinewood since November.
Craig said the cryptic title reflected Bond's state of mind after the events of Casino Royale.
"His heart's been broken and he's sort of going out to find the guy who's responsible," said the star.
"So he's looking for revenge, you know, to make himself happy with the world again.
"But it also alludes to something else in the film," he added.
'Driven by revenge'
Kurylenko, who plays Bond girl Camille in the film, said that she has yet to film any scenes, but was working hard preparing for her role.
"I'm doing weapons training and body flight training for aerial scenes and stunt work for fighting," she said.
"This girl is going to kick ass. She's on her own mission and she's driven by revenge."
It is as yet unclear whether Camille is a secret agent.
French actor Mathieu Amalric, who plays the villainous Dominic Greene, told reporters his character had "the smile of Tony Blair and the crazy eyes of Nicholas Sarkozy".
scared2: Bloody hell, that sounds almost as scarey as Nick holding a box of fireworks eeek:
Actress Gemma Arterton plays an MI6 agent in the film and has already shot her love scenes with 007.
She said: "I felt like a giggly girl, and I felt so young and inexperienced - but I kissed James Bond!"
The 21-year-old, who recently starred in the St Trinian's film, said her Bond role is "not so frolicksome" and her character "fresh and young, not sultry and a femme fatale".
'Pretty prickly'
Dame Judi Dench, who returns for her sixth Bond film, said: "I get to do more in this one, which is brilliant."
She hinted that her character's relationship with Bond would be "pretty prickly".
Rumours about the name had grown after fans noticed that film studio Sony had bought the domain name quantumofsolace.com.
But co-producer Michael Wilson said the name had only been decided "a few days ago", adding the story's start point would be "literally an hour after the last film left off".
Asked if Casino Royale star Eva Green would appear in Quantum of Solace, co-producer Barbara Broccoli said: "There are no flashbacks in the film, but she's certainly on Bond's mind."
Director Marc Forster is in charge of work on the movie, which is due for release on 7 November.

Apparently in this film he gets married, so I suppose she lasts as long as Diana Rigg did in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Looking at the online trailers I'm really looking forward to this film.
It seems it's the first Bond film that is a direct sequel to a previous one and continues an hour or so from where the previous plot ended.
I shall go to the new Showcase cinema experience place and be waited on hand and foot whilst avoiding a half hour or so of adverts. cloud9:

Mr Wench is excited too. Thank goodness Daniel Craig is vaugely attractive or I would not be impressed to be going.

That's him, I got the surname wrong. I was trying to find the american who played 'Jimmy Bond' in a version of Casino Royale but he was the best I could find.

In 1954 a television production of Casino Royale appeared as an episode of the CBS Climax! Mystery Theatre anthology series. Barry Nelson played Bond (as an American agent), dubbed "Card Sense Jimmy Bond".

Unusually for Cyprus wines it is cold bottled and contains no preservatives. Normal stuff here is hot bottled (in effect sterilised) and contains Sulphates to preserve it and allow you to leave it in your car all day in the sunshine yet remain relatively 'drinkable' if you need a slurp on the way home...

We thought it was a good action film but some what lacking for a Bond.
I suspect that the reason it is lacking for a Bond movie is that unlike the previous ones both Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale have been made more like Fleming's Bond as opposed to the Hollywoodised version.
-
Which is fine and I understand the reasons for doing it. They are stripping back and trying to get at the root of Bond and as you say make it more like the books. But for me the Bond genre had transcended the books and become an entity in their own right. And I'm sad that that now seems to be over.
I think there are enough action films as it is without having to have to add Bond to that genre too. It was like a Bourne film which I also enjoy but I won't be wasting money at the cinema in future I will wait for a dvd release.
-
I have a feeling that the Bourne films are about to go downhill now as they are making the fourth one. Ludlum only wrote the original trilogy, the rest of the books were done by Eric Van Lustbader.
-
My objection is that it is edited so fast that it is virtually incoherent.
-
So nothing made any sense Nick? Surely between that and the explosions it would have been like a normal day for you? whistle:
-
It looks to me like they cut a lot out and decided to leave in the chases and explosions. In consequence it is sometimes hard to know what country they are in, or why rubschin:
e.g. Plane takes off in, I thnk, Bolivia, or maybe Haiti. Bond charters a jet to follow and theny they are all in Austria.
Everyone goes back to Bolivia after they chat to each other. Would have been easier to use the phone!
-
I saw a clip on the TV. A bit of car chase and an altercation with a lorry. It jumped about so much I couldn't tell which car Bond was in.
-
What they call "Edgy" then

What they call "Edgy" then
Or 'shite'...

Dark and edgy seems to ne the Hollywood standard at the moment, some films it works with and some it doesnt. Look at Batman for example, from the Tim Burton version onward the films were a mix of dark and camp but the new reimaging with Christian Bale has meant that you finally have a Batman character that is true to the original concept. Bond should work in the same way as the character in the novels is far darker than has been protrayed (sometimes possibly even borderline sociopathic) but it may take longer to be accepted as people are too used to the old Hollywood version.
-
I agree about the Bond films going back to the darkness of the books. No prob with that. But this film is just incoherent.
Oddly, still good though. Well, it's a Bond film innit? cloud9:
The Roger Moore ones were utter shite, but I still watch them redface:
-
Roger Moore was never convincing as a Bond though, he was ok as Simon Templar but he never had the, for want of a better word, edge that you would have expected Bond to have.

Somebody on the Radio was saying that you need to watch Casino Royale followed immediately by QofS to be able to follow the plot.

Yes but Christian Bale's Batman still has the batmobile, the cape, gadgets etc. They haven't inherently changed it for changes sake. It is still recognisable as Batman. Where as if Bond weren't called Bond and there wasn't that tedious martini exchange in the middle you wouldn't know Quantum of Solace from any other action film.

Which is fine if you are still viewing the films as an extension of the books but I am arguing that the films are now stand alone and something quite different from the original books. There has been so many films in the old style that I believe the tradition of breakaway had been given precedence.

This film is beginning to sound very missable.
Well I certainly will wait for it to pop up on TV when I can watch it without wasting good money. whistle:
If you are an action film fan it is certainly worth going. The big set pieces are incredible on the big screen. However, if you aren't bothered about that then yeah, dvd far better.
TBH I don't much enjoy the cinema. Not enough leg room, sound far too loud and cretins in the seats all around me.
Used to like going to the pictures but somehow it lost its appeal for me when they got rid of the Pathe Newsreels, the cartons and the second feature.
Which is part of the reason why Mr Wench and I went early and bought the extra legroom, arse space seats.
And where do you think I would find such luxuries in North Wales? ::)
BBC Radio One Road Show a few years back came from Chester and the DJ (Can't remember who) asked a couple of local girls, on air, what they did for a good night out ~ the answer "Go to Liverpool"

I have seen every Bond film as soon as it came out since my Dad took me to see Dr No in 1962. cloud9:
Tradition, innit?
It is in mine and Mr Wench's families too, however, I shan't be going to see the next one unless there is some sort of change. It shall be my own tiny mini protest.
Worrabout Daniel Craig in trunks eh? eyes:

Its people like you who are fuelling the drugs trade according to the anti piracy warning you see on DVD's these days. Although if someone cant make money selling crack cocaine then dodgy DVD's are going to bankrupt them.
To be honest most people who want to get these films check the sites on t'internet and download the torrents now. They get the films and it doesnt cost them anything so I'm surprised that people are still selling dodgy knock off DVD's these days.
Mind you I guess Barnum was right, there's one born every minute. As long as people are daft enough to buy them then they will still be sold.

I dont use it myself but as far as I understand you install a torrent client and then browse the torrent sites cherry picking what you want off them.
