Title: Was justice served.
Post by: The Moan Ranger on March 01, 2008, 02:54:36 PM
I read in the Daily Tory today about the woman imprisones for four years for killing a cyclist - she was speeding and had been texting on her mobile.

The cyclist ran a red light leading to the collision.

In the words of FO, discuss.

In what way? Sentence too short/long, or it was the cyclist's fault for jumping the red light?

Well the cyclist made a major balls up but I think in his case he has paid. The woman was speeding and texting and has also paid. Reasonable sentence I think. Plus if the woman has anything about her she wil be suffering regardless of prison.

The driver was stupid for being on the ‘phone.

But it was the cyclist’s fault that there was a death.

I think the driver should face whatever penalty there is for being on the ‘phone (and speeding if that was the case). No more.

The cyclist paid the ultimate penalty for jumping the red light and has now been removed from the gene pool.

They should still fine his estate whatever the maximum fine for jumping a red light happens to be. Just to demonstrate how at fault he was. Cyclists think that they can go anywhere, on and off pavements to suit themselves, ignore all rules of the road, jump red lights, abuse any motorist who dares drive past them and kick dents in cars that they deem are too close ~ all whilst dressed in the most ridiculous lycra clothing with bum protector pads.
B@st@rds the lot of 'em cussing:

Make them pass a proficiency test and pay for insurance like the rest of us ~ now THAT would get my vote.

The mental - and penal - anguish for her is as a direct result of his light jumping. He's out of the game now, through a lack of adherence to the highway code that covers all road users.

If he hadn't - she would have sailed through the lights, too fast and on the mobile and she would have been just another that does so every day without incident.

I am certainly not condoning this behaviour, but it goes on every day and only good fortune prevents more accidents.

Accidents happen - and in a lot of cases they are preventable, but they will happen nonetheless.

What will happen to her four year old daughter?

It pisses you off that it usually is the motorist that gets the blame.... I had an incident myself the other week a cyclist in the dark no lights straight into the side of me ... I stopped to see if he was ok he had not come off the bike as I was going slowly on an island ... I opened my door and he started shouting abuse at me I thought fuck you mate... got back in and drove off...
He was acting as if I was in the wrong.. cussing:
