Well not yet. But hopefully this is not another false alarm and I can start organising street parties soon.  happy088

Thatcher had some ‘issues’ but I wonder how Gordo would have coped with the Falklands? They’d all be speaking Spanish now.  noooo:

Thatcher did a lot for this country. Unfortunately all the good things she did have been forgotten and then "taken over" by the Blair years. The "prosperity" that we have all enjoyed with billions being thrown at the NHS and Education by NuLabour would not have been there had it not been for her legacy. That  Blair, Brown and co have in fact squandered that legacy is not Thatcher's fault. They were like kids who, on reaching 18, discovered that their trust fund was no longer managed for them but they could do what they liked. That's why we are now heading toward bankruptcy.
You and I may not see any benefit from the billions spent by Labour over the last ten years on Schools, NHS etc but believe you me there are an awful lot of middle and senior managers in those and other sectors who are rubbing their fat little hands with glee at the size of their pay packets, bonuses etc.
Essentially Thatcher + Lawson provided the sound financial base on which, despite problems with the ERM, Major was able to build on and this shower have spent it on rubbish.

I find myself in agreement with Snoopy here. Mind you, shwe is/was a frightful harridan. It will be interesting to see how her (state?) funeral is handled by Gordo and the media. Brace yourself for pages of what passes for analysis in the broadsheets.

Absolutely ~ Ghastly woman, friend of the MiL actually  ::)

But a classic case of cometh the hour cometh the (wo)man. She did what was needed at the time. Now we need someone equally strong and determined but frankly, looking at the current Houses of Parliament, I find it hard to see from whence they will come.

Looking across the pond is no better. The choice is going to be between an aged war monger, a fat thighed woman and a blackman whose ears stick out making him look like a wingnut. Meanwhle old Putin must be Laughinhiscockoff (That's Russian for finding it funny). 'Tween him and the Chinese we ain't gorra chance in the next half century.

So true Snoops, it was the same with Churchill after WW2. This country has a habit of putting people on pedestals only to knock them off when they tire of them. I give you the  latest example of this, Jonny Wilkinson... cry:

But the point is well made ...... Only Guscott and Brian Moore had anything good to say about him yesterday. Everyone else (Pundits etc) were saying "Well he's past it now of course". I expect the papers this morning will be the same.

Went to bed early ........ "we" weren't speaking you will recall  fence:
Apparently "we" are still not. cloud9:
Anywhooo, I have plans for the day. I am going to the council tip later (always enjoy that) taking a boot load of old PCs, monitors, keyboards etc. It is not worth the effort to put them on ebay, all have had the hard drives removed and destroyed, two at least were running on Windows 95 and even the 7 yo was complaining they were not running his "Reader Rabbit" Discs properly. The monitors are all buggered one way or another, have long since been replaced, same as the keyboards. Just never got round to binning them all until yesterday when I had a bit of a sort out. It will be fun to watch the tip attendants and others scrambling in the cack trying to salvage what they will think are "COMPUTERS".
After that and following on from my "experiment" with a G&T yesterday (two in fact) I have not taken any valium today and plan to go round to my Brother's and drag him out for a lunch time pint. Prolly have a sandwich in the pub too as I doubt that lunch in this house will be a pleasure somehow. After that I shall return to the kennel and watch the Rugby. happy088

Then a late lunch at a 15th century pub on the edge of Exmoor that an aquantance has just taken over, that'll keep me happy
