Personally I dislike lamb intensely and it has often occurred that, whether one believes in God or not, eating Lamb when all about us people are banging on about the death and resurrection of "The Lamb of God" does seem a little odd.

Depends how you cook it. But I suppose being surrounded by sheep day in and day out must make you jaded!

Actually it was some cold lamb that Mrs S produced one day for supper. It was left over from a Sunday Roast but later that night I got The Vomit which went on for three days and all I could taste was lamb fat  sick2: I cannot even stand the smell of it anymore.
When we do have lamb I insist that Lil Bruvver (The Butcher) removes all bones and fat before I will even let it into the house (It is actually the marrow in the bone that gives leg o lamb that distinctive flavour). I do eat Loin of lamb, which is the eye of the chops, when it is taken out as a whole joint rather than being turned into chops.

The body remembers.I had a most unpleasant experience with a mango in 1981. Haven't been near one since.

I cannot imagine what you can have been doing with a mango.

Actually I find they are best peeled and eaten whilst I am naked, sitting in a warm bath. Too messy otherwise.

Well the lamb turned out all right. Mrs Nick made a simnel cake and I made a trifle and some bread.Jolly good stuff

Excellent. We had pork with all the trimmings including some terrific crackling.
Didn't bother with Simnel Cake as minimus is allergic to eggs and nuts ~ hard to make Simnel Cake without either really and despite the fact that he says he doesn't mind, it seem unfair to be scoffing such things whilst he cannot. Better that we all go without and that way he doesn't feel "different".

Scoffing ~ what a very nice and descriptive word that is .... wonder whence it came?

PERHAPS:
Georges Auguste Escoffier (28 October 1846 – 12 February 1935) was a French chef, restaurateur and culinary writer who popularized and updated traditional French cooking methods. He is a near-legendary figure among chefs and gourmets, and was one of the most important leaders in the development of modern French cuisine.

Answering my own posts again but it seems that Scoff and Scoffing are 14th Century words meaning Mock, Taunt, Deride etc. The association with eating doesn't get much mention anywhere except one source that I can find where it is given as a secondary definition of "eating with relish or gusto ... peculiarly English useage"

Pehaps my light hearted ref to the famous French chef is closer to the mark than I thought ~ given the English love of taking the p*ss out of the Frogs.

I think that would work well actually. The butter beans would mash and mingle.

Butter Beans mashed are a recommended substitute for potato for those striving for a low GI diet. I often use them and they are very nice .... The boys however say  sick2:

I didn't say it was but it is a good substitute and is probably an older recipe than mashed potato. After all we grew beans in the UK long before the blasted potato arrived.

True. I prefer cous cous though, or lentils as a mash substitute.

Many years ago a mate of mine was asked to do some English language training in N.Africa and...........

Oh, it's such an involved story I can't be arsed. It all turned on a local variation on the naming of cous cous and a mistranslation.
