Title: Search by postcode
Post by: Pastis on May 22, 2007, 02:04:28 PM
Any suggestions for accurate mapping sites? I've just done a location search for a hotel in London; Streetmap and Multimap place it near Oxfor Circus, ViaMichelin puts it at Marble Arch. Now I know it's at Marble Arch, I just wanted to check the street. The hotel's website confirms the location so why do Streetmap and Mutimap get it so wrong? rubschin:

Were you as careful entering the data on "Mutimap"?

Streetmap does it, or just ask the hotel for directions, unless you are a lady and driving, in which case get a cab!

Anything other than google maps. That gives out some really bizzare directions depending on the search. Slightly further afield but the best one is chicago to london. swimming the atlantic via france.  whacky115

Use AA Routefinder. Anyway it's only a ten minute walk from Oxford Circus to Marble Arch
rubschin:' Praps that last bit should have been in the Mornington Crescent thread.

Don't tell me Nick works for Google. Hmm actually that would explain the quirky nature of the map software...  eyes:

Whoa! The Mapquest site locates the postcode at the back of Evelyn Yard, close to Covent Garden and Fitzrovia lol: Try it for yourselves "London W1A 4RF"

IIRC that would be Flat 6, Mimi, French Model  eyes:

Over to you, Barman  lol:

As ever DS, I defer to your greater experience ;) I feel a research coming on...

"Bidets of Fitzrovia, Water pressure and related fluctuations"  Might I enlist your support as roving researcher sans portfolio?

I can report that the hotel was where I thought, not up some back passage in Fitzrovia ;)

What a transformation though, Reception is now like a cavernous night club with the lighting so low, I had to phone m'colleague to find him eeek:

The Restaurant would now appear to be under the Gary Rhodes brand and with an Avocado salad at ?22.50...  noooo:

Oh she costs a lot more than ?22.50 (and that's without dressing)

Move the decimal point to the right and you'd be closer to the mark, allegedly ;)
