Title: This public transport thing or road?
Post by: GROWLER on April 13, 2008, 08:39:56 AM
I've got to go down to Wimbourne in the near future for a meeting, and was considering using one of these long metal tubey things that run on rails instead of driving. eeek:
Haven't used such a method of transport for decades, and really haven't got a clue how I go about it.
What do you reckon. Will it be expensive and traumatic?  rubschin:

Is it Wimborne, Dorset? If so, it has no "u" in it. They are very sensitive about things like that down there

As for expensive...Yes ... and traumatic.... 'spect so

Bus....20 hours travelling, plus hanging around in London for up to 70 minutes each way, for a 'mere' £50.  eeek:
How and why do people use these things? noooo:

Looks like the car then.
239 miles each way equates to a tank full of diesel @ £45 and hopefully less than 8 hours travelling in total.

....and THEY want us to use this public transport system of ours? lol:

Just trying to find someone who flys to Bournmouth as a final alternative.
Loads of flights going out, but stuggling to find anyone that actually flys in there. ::)

Me neither. ::)

Did you know?
RyanAir has 2 one stop flights between Liverpool, GB and Bournemouth, GB.

Really? Well HOW do I find out about them then? surrender:

Checked departures from all the airports in the N.W., and Bournmouth is not a selected destibnation from any of them, not even Manchester. ::)

IF I can find an airline, I really wouldn't mind spending a bit more if it'll get me there in an hour...ish.

Well yes I suppose, but aren't these web sites supposed to help you without the need for having to listen to 25 options before being put through to the Royal Philamonic Ochestra's live performance for 2 hours?

Well I've just checked L'pool, M/chester, Leeds, East Mids. and Blackpool's lists of destinations, and none of them go there.
Does Bournmouth airport actually have ANY arrivals from anywhere?
They must low load aircraft there by road i reckon. ::)

It is a long walk from Bournemouth to Wimborne Minster and will take a hour by bus at least. I may be wrong but from memory Wimborne 's only station nowadays is in a hall owned by the Wimborne Model Railway Club. The BR one closed in the 70s.

Flying into Bournemouth "International" is possible but you would need to fly Liverpool to Spain and then Spain to Bournemouth (other combinations are possible) as Bournemouth is a holiday makers airport serving the continent. In any event the trip from Bournemouth Airport to Wimborne would involve getting the bus into Bournemouth then another out to Wimborne ('bout two hours I'd reckon knowing the bus services down there)

I always drive down to that part of the world (It's where I came from) and if you think you can do it in 4 hours you are joking. (and I don't care what the AA route finder site says) Depending on route selection, time of travel and assuming a reasonable adherence to the law you will be lucky to do it in under 6 hours. When did you last try to get through or round Birmingham? My brother drives down from Denbigh to Poole regularly and has yet to crack 5 hours either way.
