Title: Kippers
Post by: Snoopy on May 24, 2008, 06:18:08 AM
For breakfast today cloud9:

Not what they were when I was a lad, nowadays they come as fillets, frozen in a bag but I suppose it makes them less smelly to cook. I shall enjoy them none the less for that.

Spooky. I've not had kippers for months, and when I woke up this morning I said to Mrs JOM, "I really fancy kippers and buttered bread to mop up the juice". The only boil in the bag stuff we ever have in the house are kippers, as you say, leaves the house pretty clear of the smell. Were there any kippers in the freezer, were there hell cry:

Ah ~ we have a small "sack" of them from Iceland and whenever it gets low I alert the little woman to get more. I am the only one here who ever eats them.

As much as I'm a fan of fish as food I have severe problems with its serving. Let's not beat around the bush, it's the bones  noooo:

I have strongly imprinted childhood memories of grandparents, maiden aunts et alia clutching their throats and exclaiming problems with their small gullets... it's only a fish bone... give me some bread... !

Do Kippers have bones?

After reading this thread i went over to our local fishmonger and bought some fish.

I'm lucky here I have one of the best fismongers in the region practically next door.

As a bonus i bought, from the same place some free range eggs cheaper than Sainsburys next door as well as some duck eggs and a free range chicken.

Mrs DS (#3) has gone to visit her porridge-wog relatives for a few days.

I predict a period of unhealthy fry-up heaven.  cloud9:
