It is good to see that I am not alone (although I appear to be in the office today, but that is a different grump).

It's made to look better by the recent change of hands and all the supposed improvements that would result...

They do claim to have spent a lot of money on it ~ but if they were running short of credit to finish the job now would be a good time for a claim.

I hear on the radio that the Fire Service are looking at an area where there were a number of deep fat fryers as being the probable start point of the fire. Leave a chip pan on, lock up and go home ....... blame temp summer staff for failing to close down the kitchen properly.  The "accelerant" (cooking oil) was already there so no smell of petrol whistle: ......... makes sense to me.

I was a little suspicious of the guy they interviewed who said he'd been walking under the pier and saw the smoke but didnt think it was anything serious....

You sure, I'd heard it was Lord Lucan. Bugger rode off on Shergar afterwards.  whistle:

I ate some of Shergar - so I know it was not he.

Elvis has been implicated too, but I think he was too busy in a chippy to do it.

A friend of mine will be investigating the ruins of WSM. He is an angel voiced Geordie git. No prisoners, the truth will out here if nowhere else.

Seen elsewhere :-

This is almost as bad as that dreadful fire in a model village on the Isle of Wight....the flames could be seen 12 feet away.

Hat, coat, door.

Lord Archer has apologised for starting the pier firom. Investigators have discivered that he was on the pier at the time and his pants, as long predicted, caught fire...  whistle:

This has now been classed as an arse-on-fire  whistle:

The question 'Who gives a fcuk?' springs to mind.

I for one have better things to worry about than if a derelict pier in a place I have never heard of goes up in flames or is painted pink and christened Gloria by gay activists.

Plans to "convert" the pier and build upmarket apartments on it had been submitted but "locals" had raised objections to these. Bottom drops out of housing market and finance has become a problem for house building and development.

So many suspects and so many motives.

Would there be an outpouring of emotion because of the loss or the beautification of part of the city though?  whistle:
