Just wondering like. For a firend, obviously.
-
What symptoms is he presenting?
-
Uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest lasting more than a few minutes.
Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms.
Chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath.
Anxiety, nervousness and/or cold, sweaty skin.
Paleness or pallor.
Increased or irregular heart rate.
Feeling of impending doom
To be honest I wish I hadn't looked. eeek:

Thanks, I'll um, tell him
-
Surely as a friend of Nick's he's always going to have a feeling of impending doom?
-
Well I only have 1,3 and 7. I mean my friend has those
-
If you are showing more than 2 of those symptoms then I'd recommend seeing a doctor Nick asap.
-
Indigestion redface:
-
Don't chance it.
I didn't recognise the first attack.
The second was 3 months later and very mild, slight pain in chest and pain that moved slowly down my arm, no sweatong or palpitations etc.. By the time I got to A+E, I had no real symptoms, ECG, pulse etc all normal. Only blood test confirmed attack and that was 12 hours.
If in doubt call paramedics straight away.
-
Speaking as someone who has had five heart attacks ~ none fatal ~ I can assure you that you will know when you are having one. If you simply keel over chances are you have suffered Cardiac Arrest and most times that is fatal. Apart from the initial pain and feeling very dizzy you will feel nothing else.
A growing tightness in the chest, slight breathlessness and a feeling of being unwell followed possibly by chest pain and pain in one or both arms(Angina) possibly means a heart attack. As a smoker, who is overweight (don't deny it you are), in his fifties and who lives a fairly stressful life whilst failing to take minmum exercise (At least 30 minutes of brisk walking x 3 daily) you are at risk so any chest pain should be referred to your GP. Heartburn or indigestion pain travels along the same nerve path to the brain and as such is indistinguishable from angina pectoris and MI (heart attack).
The best way I can describe the symptoms that tell me I am having a heart attack is to liken it to when they take your blood pressure. As they inflate the cuff around your arm you feel a slight pain and some pressure, then a slight numbness in your hand. That same feeling in either arm or in my chest and I dial 999.
-
Indigestion redface:
Get yourself checked out anyway Nick.

Typically, it is completely different for a woman!

I appreciate this is a serious subject, but adding the 'none fatal' might be described as tautology my old dog. ;)
-
Strictly speaking you are right but then again since defibrillation was used five times to get my heart beating again on a Paris side street in 1998 it could be argued that one MI at least was as close to fatal as it is possible to get without going all the way.
-

OK, but there aren't really degrees of fatality any more than degrees of uniqueness.
Well done the frogs anyway. ;D
-
Curiously it was the Paris Fire Brigade. Apparently they are the paramedics and the ambulance people are simply drivers and porters.

Well I burped and the symptoms ceased shrugs:

Totally agree about the aspirin ~ watch out though because the "normal" aspirin are usually stronger than those prescribed for heart (Anti Clotting) purposes. 75mg per day is enough but it is for LIFE (not just for Christmas). Either use "Enteric Coated" Aspirin or Soluble as the ordinary "headache cure" variety can and do cause stomach bleeding when taken daily. The other one is prolly Lipitor which is a fairly aggressive Statin the purpose of which to reduce cholesterol. Statins do have other beneficial effects and are proven to prevent blood clots which are the cause of Heart Attacks and Strokes. The downside of Statins is that some people find them depressive to take and also there are reports of muscular fatigue which has been linked to the taking of Statins (Particularly Atorvastatin which is what you have got ~ Lipitor being a brand name) I took them for some time and had to come off them for the above reasons. I now take a low dose statin backed up by another cholesterol lowering drug.
Seems to me that your GP has decided that prevention is the order of the day .........
Now about those ciggies???? rubschin:

You know it makes sense Nick!

If a weak willed old hound like me can stop then so can you. It just takes will power and a strong desire to stay alive, even if you only want to stay alive to annoy the wife's sister.
-
Can I annoy the MiL too, please?
-
Did you tell the medical persons about the rail related hallucinations?
Gawd knows what they could be a symptom of. Rabies mebbe?
This Chrome thing is good, spell checks as you go along. cloud9:

I feel certain that you already do.

I do, but Snoops is trying to incentivise me!

You can annoy anyone you like and you would have more money to spend on visiting Donna!
-
This is good stuff. Keep them coming
(so to speak) redface:

Apparently smoking can also be related to impotence.

IN Spain they say it causes grey hair (is that correct Miss Wench)?
I always buy the packs that say "Don't smoke if you are pregnant" I feel Ok about it then

Excellent. They should do that one.

More likely than Statins and Aspirin. They are OK with drink in moderation.

Well my body is telling me "never again" surrender:

Surely one glass is 'in moderation' ?

TBH I have never yet spent a night in Hospital without ending up suffering from something I didn't have when I went in. Usually a dose of the sh*ts, a cold or some other minor infection that takes a day or two to clear up.

Surely one glass is 'in moderation' ?
Depends on the size of the glass and the person who is under estimating the amount drunk.
For glass read bottle.
-
Nope. 2 normal size glasses of red wine. Then mega- sick2: sick2:
That was almost 18 hours ago and I still feel frail surrender:

Normal being? How many cl?
A standard measure is 125ml. Two glasses of that would have been fine. I suspect your glasses were a minimum of 200ml.

She seems to have your measure Nick lol:

So I had to go for some blood tests.
They called me."All normal"
Jolly good. At least I have normal blood.
"So we shall see you at 11.10"
"Why?"
"The nurse will give you dietary advice"
WTF is that about? rubschin:
And is this the same nurse who looks like a beached whale?

Sounds like low salt, low fat diet is on its way.
You'll love it.
Difficult to believe how many things they will say you can't have.

cry:

She had no idea why I was there.
"Your cholesterol is at 5.3."
"What should it be?"
"5.1"
"So...?"
"You might cut down on cheese...."
That was that!
-
I was told that the "safe" limit was being dropped to 4.5.
Mine was 5.2. After rehab it had dropped to 4.2.
Statin dosage was halved at beginning of the year.
Still eat cheese though.
The real bugger is the not having liver and bacon. Doing me in.

Saw Cardiologist yesterday ~ he has given up on Cholesterol readings ~ he is only interested in "Bad" cholesterol. Mine was 1.9 which surprised us both. He rechecked and yes 1.9 which is soooooooo good he offered me one of the kiddies lollipops they keep in a jar. Piss taking b@st@rd! Anywhoo he is happy, has reduced my stsins to a mere 10mg daily AND I can stop the diabetes pills too as he thinks they are causing weight gain and that the diabetes may now be controllable by diet alone cloud9:
