At what cost and from which supplier might I ask ~ I have been looking at this idea as finding a WiFi hotspot often means McDonalds out here in the sticks.

Orange love me, so "only" £10 per month. I can live with that - I used to spend more that that every lunchtime when I was working.

rubschin: Unfortunately Orange is shite in this area .... my mobile won't work in the house and hardly works in the garden. Yet both Wife and daughter are with other companies and don't get these problems.

I have been thinking of doing the mobile braodband on a Pay As You Go basis as my useage will be small most of the time.

Are you able to do it as a one off/pay as you go every month or so or is it contract?

The Orange deal is a contract deal. PAYG is an up front payment for the USB thingy and then same as a phone you pay for what you use. Prices are coming down I notice as they are becoming more popular. Don't jump in too soon would be my motto. Since I started looking some months ago PAYG has dropped by about 25% on some companies.

It seems T Mobile do a £2 per day connection once you have purchased the usb stick for £50. Seem reasonable.

3 GB fair use amount.

All our Mobile Broadband pay per day options comes with:
3GB fair use amount

What can I do with a 3GB fair use amount?
It's quite hard to say as every webpage or email is different but as an estimate you could download:

24,000 web pages or
1 million emails or
9000 photos or
600 music files

What is a 3GB fair use amount?
Each price plan has a fair use amount so all our mobile broadband customers can enjoy surfing the internet. If you go over your amount, we'll never charge you extra. Instead we'll work with you to lower your usage or get you onto the right price plan.

I'm trying to figure out how many mins of msn video calling that would be.  rubschin:

Speed-wise, it's only a little bit slower than the home broadband. I have bought a USB hub, as my old (although turbo charged, cheers Tel) only has 2 USB ports.

But so far, so good.

I agree hound, 3 are offering me £15 a month for a 15Gb download limit and a free dongle, close to what I want but not quite there yet. It will end up being a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a landline set up as bastard BT want to charge me £125 to send an engineer round to test the line is still working as it hasnt been used in a while, and thats before the connection fee. Customer service bint on the phone didnt appreciate me telling her that I used to work for BT and that they could do the same test by sending a signal to the phone I had plugged in for free.

Any answers on the how many mb/gb an msn video call would use?

Actually 3Gbytes...  ::)

But yes, that would go a long way... you should be able to yack for hours on that with reasonable settings...

Stop your PC doing automatic updates tho - you could find you use most of your data downloading shite from Micro$oft...
