Failing that, define tits up. What exactly happens when you try to use it?

Blue screen of death. It did it last night too and on reboot it ran the chkdsk in dos and then seemed to be fine this morning but it would seem not so now.

No, I'm sure Wenchy has made a recovery disk.
-
Nope, no recovery disc, I wouldn't even know how to go about it!

noooo:
Buggered then... you did take copies of the 'install' discs which were on the hard drive didn't you...? whistle:
-
No redface:
Please don't wind me up. In all seriousness how do I do these things because I should probably do them for mine.
I can't believe that the second I get a new laptop his breaks and I am going to be forced to share. sad24:

Do you have any discs from the machine...?

He did it deliberately... he doesn't like not being able to see what you are up to... prolly... whistle:

No discs for the old one no. Someone had it before us and they handed it on with nothing. Banghead
For mine, I have some stuff, no idea what though. I was so excited I didn't really pay attention. redface:

Your discs won't work... they should but they won't... trust me on this... noooo:
Try the System Restore like I said like... your best hope...
-
Cool, will do. Fingers crossed!

Ok if its an older laptop that someone had before it could be that the hard disk is knackered. If you look on Ebay for a USB enclosure you can slot the hard disk into that and attach it to your laptop to test it. If it works fine then back up all the information Mr Wench wants to keep.
If it does turn out that the hard disk has done then you should be able to pick up a replacement easily enough and for much less than a new laptop. Try sites like BigPockets or Ebuyer. You would just need to reinstall the OS.
-
The problem is that Wenchy doesn't have the OS to reinstall.

Can't even get the sodding thing to start up so am giving up. It can go back into school on Monday and the itbod can look at it and failing that there have been rumours of new laptops going round for a bit so hopefully one of those will be forthcoming.
-
BSoD on a laptop normally means game over. If it's old, it's not worth repairing but bear in mind any new PC will be Vista. Which is sh1te.

Did you try safe mode...?

You bloody Catholics. noooo:

Yep I tried safe mode, and it just hits the blue screen again and then restarts over and over in a never ending cycle. I have decided that it isn't my problem.

If it's a school laptop then it's their problem.

It is a school laptop and so it shall be their problem. I have washed my hands of it. cloud9:
