Title: Never Knowingly Undersold
Post by: Barman on December 08, 2008, 04:15:19 PM
How come they don't know about Amazon then...?

The Blu Ray player I want is £155 at Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-BDPS350-Blu-ray-Player-1080p/dp/B001DN1SP4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1228752182&sr=1-1) and £224 at John Lewis (http://www.johnlewis.com/230528989/Product.aspx)...

You could get a 80gb PS3 with a couple of games for under £300. Blu-ray built in. Go on, you know you want to.  happy088

The BDPS350 makes the PS3 look like this: -

I did consider it but the dedicated player is better for my cinema like...  whistle:

Fair comment. I only have one Blu-Ray movie and I have not played it yet apart from a few scenes. Picture quality is about the same as DVD (unless I have to tweak the HD TV) but sound quality is awesome.

I even logged into the pub on it without installing Linux.

I humbly suggest that a PS3 pumped through the home cinema when playing a game like 'Resistance 2' would be highly entertaining. Your neighbours a few miles away will call the police and report a gun battle at Chez BM.

Anyway BM I thought your knees were poorly enough after the 'ladder'  incident - I wouldn' want to cause you any more pain now  rubschin:

The cinema is a concrete box buried about three feet underground! The neighbours don't even realise I'm down there with bleeding ears...  noooo:

I looked at the PS3 - I have an XBox and don't really play it cos I am shite... I like the Wii concept but I think there will be a Wii2 that addresses some of the issues with it later. Or perhaps Wii type games for the PS3 or XBox 360?

The remote has some kind of motion sensor stuff as in if a naughty alien grabs you by the throat one can vigorously wave the controller or throw it the wall etc and said alien goes flying.

Lots of fun when pissed.

Beyond that I cant say as I only have 2 games. But the potential seems to be there for physical mayhem ALA Wii.

Graphics and sound are about the same as Xbox360 but it's the fact that is has all the extras built in that is a great selling point.

You get:

Blu-Ray
Wireless
Bluetooth
hard drive
Basic usable operating system
Potential to install Linux and make it a PC.

It's a cracking piece of kit I have to say.

You have no idea TG. A couple of years ago a mate of mine got hold of a projection screen rig for his computer and decided to show it off to some of us. Life size AVP2, Nat screamed so loudly when the first alien appeared that the neighbours called the police thinking we were attacking her.

 rubschin:

Despite all that has been posted since your op I note that no-one has tried to answer the question posed. Try reading the FULL John Lewis "promise" and you will find that they qualify it to bona fide retail shops within a certain distance of their own stores. Internet shopping is excluded

Lets face it - it's all advertising jargon anyway that either no one believes or hasn't got the time,  energy or inclination to dispute.

except Barman of course

Strangely both of my parents were "Partners" in th John Lewis Partnership for many years.
Decent employers (for retail) and the parents would not hear word against the "Partnership".
That's how I come to know about the price promise. The parents believed in it too.
