Why not? Some females have been touted for the role as well. Catherine Zeta Jones has been mentioned for instance.
This Matt Smith bloke (whoeverTF he is) only leaped into joint favourite at the bookies yesterday so one would suspect they have some insider knowledge.

I would not be watching it ~ unless they could bring John Pertwee back from the grave but I based my assessment of the man from the "sincere" load of bollox he was talking in the video clip posted. And he is ugly. Even the THW says he is ugly so it must be true.
