Title: When the flock leave home
Post by: GROWLER on February 13, 2009, 10:22:24 AM
Mini Moose is off on her skiing trip tomorrow, and it's starting to pray on me mind.  rubschin:

Growler Towers is going to be uncannily quiet and tidy for over a week, and most and even more  astonishingly, Growler jnr even admitted he's going to miss her! eeek:

How sweet. When The Boy goes off on school trips (Angelsey for a week last time) we rejoice at the peace and quiet. She will have a great time and probably won't break a leg

I'm sure she will, but she creates a constant 1000 mph buzz around the place, and I'm going to miss it.

If nothing else, kids do keep you young in your mind.

You will worry and fret about all sorts of things that won't actually happen  scared2:

She will be nervous initially but will then have an amazing time and it will be one of those fond memories that we have of the first time we went on a school trip  abroad  (or not  cry:  -  I couldn't afford to go abroad when I was a kid but a week in the Peak district was absolutely brilliant )

She will be fine - you will miss her but she will be back before you know it

Pop round here and enjoy the full The Boy experience then. I give you five minutes myself before you attempt to strangle him.

He got a lift to Chester off someone yesterday and she said later 'Does he EVER stop talking?'

I said he even talks in his sleep  noooo:

Tis so true MD. We couldn't really afford it, but my mind set is to give my nippers the chance to enjoy something that they will always remember for the rest of their lives, and this was the one opportunity that was never available to me that I really wish I'd had.
Too late when the opportunity has gone, so it had to be done now. She's never been away from us for more than 12 hours.

S'pose you could say that in essence is what's behind my 'other business' tbh. Something I'd like to have done when I was young.

You are just being a good parent Growler....you want the best for your daughter. You want her to have a rounded experience of life.

We are all aware of the parts of our childhood that we were unhappy about and the opportunities that we didn't have and we try and compensate these with our own children , as much as practicably possible.

She will know that it has not been easy on her parents to find the money for the trip.  I know we can talk about the selfishness of our kids (mine is by no means any exception) but sometimes on occassions like this you will see her growing up before your very eyes. That is quite scary.  Be proud and let her know you will miss her.

Tears of sadness have rapidly now turned into tears of utter despair and hysterical screaming on the channel boat, and utter disbelievement this end. eeek:

She's only gone and 'lost' her purse with ALL of her £'s and euros in it. eeek:

The boat docks in 15 minutes, then I assume the coach is going to have to be ripped apart to see if it's on the floor of it.

Oh the friggin' bloody joys of parenthood. Banghead

The Growler family now wait with baited breath for the next 15 minutes.

She will not have looked properly,  if she's anything like my daughter.

If it's not sitting on top of something and blatantly obvious then it will be lost  noooo:

When you ask them to look properly this will involve picking up the 1st thing in front of them not locating it and then saying they can't find it  evil:

No. My appetite has completely deserted me tbqath. Even had to throw my tea away. My stomach is in turmoil.
Single Malt in large quantities is called for.

Mr G - have a drink and a bit of cake  cloud9:

I'd imagine mini moose would have panicked like hell when she thought she had lost her money so she will be extra careful from now on.
Whatever problems may emerge, and hopefully that will be it now , you are not able to do much about it except worry yourself into a frenzy and that will not do.

I know, I know. Sound advice, but I am a bit of a worrier behind this gruff facade (is it?) that I appear to have sometimes.
Meanwhile, Mrs Growler is currently sitting in front of the fire, chortling away at some random shite on the telly. ::)

I always feel that every trip needs one calamitous moment. In fact I never really relax until it has happened. Mini Moose has had her moment and now the rest of the trip will be smooth sailing. Stiff drink matey. Maybe more than one.  ;)

Good job she had her phone ey?

On second thoughts? rubschin:
She's now used all the £20 credit that we only put on it yesterday, sobbing on her own in the boat bogs to Mrs Growler for 10 minutes.
I didn't actually know what was going on or who was on the phone, as I'd literally only been in for 5 minutes and was just sitting down in front of the fire for my tea, otherwise I'd have told Mrs G to ring HER back, dozy bloody moose. Banghead

Even calling her will require her to have credit on her phone.  eeek: As you will only pay the cost for the British part of the phone call and her mob will carry charges for all the foreign, regardless of if she is receiving or calling/texting. She will be charged for every phone call she makes, receives and for every text she sends and receives.

Didn't know that.  noooo:

Unless she tops her phone up then, I can look forward to a bit of peace at last....unless we get a call from one of the teachers or her friends of course.
I'll be having nightmares tonight.........................

"Can you arrange to meet Miss Moosey at Manchester airport at 3:30 am on Tuesday please, and we'll send you the bill for £800"

We have actually been warned that that will happen if any child is found to have seriously misbehaved, ie drugs, violence, and sneeking into others bedrooms.

It's just the nerves before the actual event Growler. They are all probably really tired from the ridiculously long journey and after a good nights sleep hopefully the world will seem a different place tomorrow.

Once they've actually got out on the slopes and start experiencing a bit of fun they will start talking in more positive language and hopefully the number of phone calls will lessen.

Hello Mudder - Hello Fadder
Here I am at - Camp Granada
And it's very - entertaining
And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining

I went hiking - with Joe Spivey
He developed - Poison Ivy
You remember - Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine pois'ning last night after dinner

Take me home, oh Mudder, Fadder
Take me home, I hate Granada
Don't leave me, out in the forest
Where I might get eaten by a bear-ear

No I don't want - to-oo scare ya
But my best mate - has malaria
You remember - Jeffrey Hardy
They're about to organise a searching party

Take me home, I promise I will not, make noise
Or mess the house with oth-ther boys
Oh please don't make me stay
I've been here one whole day

Dearest Fadder - Darling Mudder
How's my precious - little bruddah
Let me come home - if you miss me
I would even let Aunt Bertha hug and kiss me

Wait a minute - it's stopped hailing
Guys are swimming - guys are sailing
Playing cricket - gee that's better
Mudder, Fadder kindly disregard this letter

She'll be fine and the minute she's home will be planning her next trip.

I'm absolutely kerknackered following a dredful nights kip last night, and a really hard day route planning and digging at Swamp 3 in readiness for two different but very traumatised family visits this week.
One an 18 yr old with terminal cancer, and the other a brother and sister who lost their dad in a motorbike accident just before Christmas.

It's going to be a long hard week for some of us as Nick suggested.

Crikey!, You are good at this advice an mentoring stuff Miss D. You should set up a Dear Auntie Dforum where we can come and ask for advice and help.
For example;

Dear Miss D, Can you please adise on the best cheese to serve at a wake? No-one has deid yet but it good to be prepared.
Thank you, Worried of Birmingham

However I am always willing to help - now lie down and tell me all about it ...................... ;)

As for your cheese dilemma, Worried of Birmingham, I commend your forward thinking but food at a wake - is that really appropriate - it will take up valuable drinking space  lol:

She is probably fine and it literally is just a voice thing. Cold weather, altitude, lack of sleep and too much talking and shrieking will do that. I know I frequently lost my voice on school trips and it most certainly wasn't glandular fever.

Well she'll have plenty to remember from her first school trip abroad and will laugh at it in the years to come.

Right now it's just the practicalities of getting back home , catching up on sleep before school starts again tomorrow, getting the washing done and going through the slide show later of all the pictures she has taken. This is so and so in the snow etc etc etc   lol:

Hope you have not been lying awake worrying or waiting for a call though

Arrival in the small hours?

Who knows now.  rubschin:

Disaster has struck the party upon departure apparently. Currently waiting ( at 7:30 pm) for the breakdown recovery service and the Austrian equivelant of the RSPCA.
Seems a cat decided to have a kip on the nice warm engine, but didn't quite make it out of the bay before the driver started up.
I'll spare you the tearful horrendously bloody and graphic observations from a distressed Mini Moose.
The two numbers I've got to call are both kicking into answer phone mode, and my text messages aren't getting through.
At this moment in time, I have absolutely no idea where they are or even in fact if they are mobile.
Having witnessed this sort of nasty incident once, I would guess there could possibly be some fairly substantial mechanical damage to the coach.
It's a long way from Edinburgh for a repalcement.

Tomorrow could be a long day and night. ::)
