Every report I have heard or read on this incident so far has all included the same fact - the driver of the train that smashed into the stationary one was female
Among the dead was the female operator of the second train that rammed into the first as it awaited orders to proceed along the tracks
Is this an important fact because women can't drive anything that moves noooo:
A woman does not usually choose the career of train driver - therefore the assumption would be that this was a man driving the train and for the sake of accurate reporting they need to clearly specify this wasn't the case ::)
The loss of life of a woman is more tragic than that of a man rubschin:

A bit of all three but mainly two I'd say.
I'm always amazed that in this age of computerised control this can still happen.
-
TBH I hadn't picked up on that until you mentioned it. I tend to filter such meaningless information out. Same as I am not actually interested in the age of this person or that with which reporters seem to feel duty bound to pad out their stories.
We do have a lot of wimmin driving buses and coaches these days and quite a few work as drivers of HGVs but I can't say I've noticed any on the tube. Perhaps it is unusual.
I am with Uncle tho' ~ this sort of "accident" is not supposed to be possible so I am more interested to know how it could have happened than the gender of those involved.

Exactly .....even by just saying the train driver and then giving her name ....but not actually saying 'The female driver' etc would be better.
As for the cause human negligence or error seems most likely :
The Washington DC subway was urged to replace or upgrade aging trains three years before a crash that has killed nine people, investigators have said
-
Well that's an arse covering statement if ever I heard one.
-
The law suits are probably already being drafted noooo:
-
Yup ~ and the "investigators" are making sure they get their previous statements in right at the beginning so they can say "So it clearly wasn't our fault" ......... They are after all the same people who are in day to day charge of safety on the metro.
