Title: Set ups , stitch ups and blind dates
Post by: Miss Demeanour on October 03, 2009, 07:25:58 PM
Next week I am due to be going out for a meal with some friends for a birthday treat . We have a lovely restaurant booked and it was meant to be me , my friend and her husband and another good friend and her partner. Tonight I find out there will be 6 of us going to dinner  rubschin:

Who else is going I politely enquire ...

"oh you will really like him he is lovely " I am told  noooo:

" What do you mean I will like him " I scrutinise further

"well he is single and looking for a lovely lady "

He is going to be bitterly disappointed I feel  lol: lol: lol:

Why do people always feel a need to become a matchmaker in such situations ?

I know I am not alone with this problem here though  ;)

During my inter marriage period this was done to me sooooooo many times that I used to couch my acceptance with "May I bring a friend?".

Then, of course, at the very last minute my "friend" had to cry off.

One woman fetched in "to make up the numbers" was so persistent that I had to move into raging queen mode to get rid of her  redface:

 surrender:

Yep, it's happened to me on several occasions  noooo:
Probably the worst was shortly after dealing with the death of one parent, clearing the house and putting the other into a care home; I was barely keeping it all together when a 'well meaning' friend thought it might be nice pair me up with someone  ::). Despair, grief and raw emotion is not a good place to come from when attempting social niceties.

There's another coming up I fear; the wedding a few months away for which I've done the invites. The bride to be has plans she tells me  noooo:

There is something about people in a relationship that compels them to try to get others to share their fate.
None of my so called friends had the faintest idea that for the first time in years I was perfectly happy, went out on dates with girls when I wanted to and had not a care in the world ............ "But you can't be happy". "Oh yes I fecking well can" Banghead

Even my own Mother, who one could assume would at least know me, was concerned that I should replace the perceived "hole in your life" as soon as possible.

I have had a similar conversation with my mother this morning  Banghead

I have 2 younger brothers. 1 who is married and the other who was in a 10 year relationship with the 'love of his life' until last year she decided she wanted something 'different'

He went through hell last year and even came to stay with me for a while ( things must have been bad  lol: ) . However he has now been seeing a new woman for several months and bought her down to visit mum last weekend with her 5 year old daughter. Mum is now in doting heaven  noooo: noooo: noooo:

So this morning I get the " what about you conversation "  cussing: I sarcastically said I would put it on my Christmas list which didn't go down well and got the " I worry about you " lecture "  which went on and on and on .

 noooo: noooo: noooo: noooo: noooo:

I've more or less decided to book the whole weekend off re: the wedding. It will be either:

1. A total delight, enjoyable and a break to boot
2. A scary nightmare to be aborted as soon as the wedding breakfast is consumed
3. Boring, in which case I'll indulge in the delights of the hotel Spa and return refreshed and invigorated  cloud9:

Well where to start  rubschin:

He blotted his copybook right from the offset as far as I was concerned. He considers himself a bit of a 'foody' and when we were all ordering  was trying to 'advise' me what to choose  ::)

Sea Bass was his recommendation  scared2:

I politely declined confirming that I did not like anything fishy. "then you've not eaten the decent stuff " I was informed and that I needed to try new things and challenge my preconceived ideas about these things  evil: evil: evil:

Thank you but no thank you ...I ordered meat  cloud9:

So when all the food arrives he then insists on holding the end of his fork to my face and says " just try a bit "

What about I DO NOT LIKE FECKIN FISH does he not understand  cussing:

So moving on and after several bottles of wine have been consumed around the table the conversation turns. One of the girls around the table has got a particularly low cut top on and he then comments " you should wear something like that ...you have the equipment "  redface:  I would have suggested he should wear a body bag at that point but I was distracted by one of the girls.

Then during the meal the Mr Tickle arms became apparent as the arm was stretched out round the back of my chair. I guess at least he didn't do the yawn , stretch and leave arm there manoeuvre  noooo:

The hand would then get placed on my shoulder  / knee when talking to me until I shrugged it off

At the end of the meal he gave the " I think you're lovely"  ......yada  yada yada yada spiel  noooo: - I would love to take you to breakfast next week  eeek: eeek: eeek: eeek: eeek:

"Breakfast"  I ask incredulous

"Yes, breakfast...there is a lovely little Portuguese bakery opened down the road from me ....etc etc etc "

I don't think so  evil:

Essentially he had left his wife over 3 and a half years ago to be with his GF.

GF is pushing him to get a divorce and finalise everything. Ex is not agreeing to a divorce.  He does not want to get married again and he has had this conversation with GF and she accepts this but still wants him to finalise divorce.

He has offered cash incentive to wife to agree to divorce ( this was the bit she didn't know ) but she still refuses.

I said for the sake of another 18 months why don't you just leave it and then apply for a divorce yourself as they will have been separated 5 years. That ways saves money, is simples to do and will cause much less grief.

That is the bit GF is not happy about  scared2:

Sound advice of course.

I was expecting something more fruity though, if it caused a row.

Along the lines of "I though all women liked xxxxx but she doesn't, what is your position?"

This is obviously because she does want him to marry her (daft sod).

Most of the personal trainers at my gym, spend more time looking at themselves in the mirror than actually watching their client. They also don't seem to do the basic checks anymore, questions, blood pressure check etc.

And why is it that no males ever seem to use a personal trainer, only females?
