Today, through the post, I received a fat envelope. I am over 60 (well I was 62 last July) and the Bowel Screening Service for Wales has caught up with me at last. It seems from their enclosed letter that all males over 60 are being offered screening for bowel cancer and the selected method is to send out a "Home Screening Kit". DIY testing for bowel cancer? eeek:
Apparently not. I have to catch a few stools, take samples from them using the cardboard scrapers provided and put the resultant smears into a small cardboard folder. These must be dated (there are three samples required from three separate visits to the bog), enclosed in the plastic envelope provided and then sent to Cardiff through the post eeek: eeek:
I kid you not lads ~ those of you under the age of 60 have much to look forward to. lol:
Oh and I did phone the help desk and no, it has nothing to do with my recent arse operation ~ just a coincidence they claim.

Like you Nick ~ I can't wait! noooo:

Just a tip but write all your details out on the sample containers before you have used them - a very common error whistle:
-
TBH I have serious doubts whether I will be using them at all. Apparently a lot never get returned.*
rubschin: *Though I suppose the Posties might steal them rubschin:
Here ~ Read all about it http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sites3/home.cfm?orgid=747

I take it's another service paid for by English taxes.

It is available in England as well ::)

Good - So it should be.

You can have my diabetes too if you like ~ I get free prescriptions in England because of it.

This is more up to date: http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-files/Guardian/documents/2009/09/16/Public_spending_160909.pdf
Spending in Wales by Westminster is a lot less than people think and of course these figures would need to be offset against any net contribution from Wales.
Don't believe all the propaganda that is spouted elsewhere. They only do it to wind certain people up.
Which is not to say that I don't whistle:

Less money is being spent on the NHS per head of population in Wales than in the rest of the United Kingdom, according to official figures.
Well I'll go to foot of our stairs!
Having had polyps removed in the past I get regular checkups anyway but the screening is definitely a good idea.
-
Yes ~ I agree that screening is a good idea ~ it was more the amusement factor of imagining the crooked postman opening the letter he has stolen to find the envelopes full of sh*t that I liked. That and the concept of DIY ;)
Glad you get the check-ups ~ I had the polyp removal some 7 years ago and when I chased to find out why I hadn't had the promised call back for a check-up I was told "We don't do that anymore if the biopsy was negative"
