Title: Sideways gravity
Post by: Nick on January 02, 2010, 11:36:22 AM
I know that gravity is useful, generally speaking, so that we don't all fly off into space and such, BUT!!

I have dropped several things this morning: some coins, my phone, a pill - natually I look straight down expecting to see that gravity has faithfully delivered them vertically towards the centre of hte earth. But no, once they hit the floor they instantly leap off in some other direction and go under something so I have to go a-grovelling about under beds, ovens and so on.

Is Physics silent on this overloooooooked universal force?  cussing:

It is a known phenomenon ........... My first born was a direct result of (i) a dropped pill (ii) a sheepskin bedside rug (iii) her looking for aforementioned dropped pill without putting her PJs on first.  redface:

TBH had I known the troubles that boy would cause me over the years I'd have had second thoughts ............ but then again she did have a cute arse and I was 20 so I probably would have done the same thing anyway.  redface:

Never did find that pill either.

To return to the OP ~ my tale is directly related to the sideways gravity effect. A pill dropped onto a sheepskin rug should not bounce. It should be there, directly below the point from which it fell and be findable ................ so why wasn't it?

She always denied that ..... in fact it was one more example of my wrongdoings that she cited at the divorce nearly 20 years later.  "Taking advantage of her" she called it ~ they never forget anything.  surrender:

We retain any useful information that would appear seemingly useless to the modern man  lol:

I find that the increasing forgetfulness of the older gentleman makes the past much easier to live with.
