I see Paul McKenna is advertising some program where he is going to hypnotise the nation to lose weight ( in conjunction with eating a calorie controlled diet and increased exercise of course whistle: ) ....
and then there is this thing going on .... Hypnotist Chris Hughes will attempt to set the world record for the number of people in a trance. He has signed up more than 6,300 people to the SocialTrance event through Facebook and Twitter.
Mr Hughes, from Banbury, Oxfordshire says: "I launched it thinking just a few people would be interested. Since then it's gone mad. I'm getting one or two registrations per minute and people have signed up from 90 countries - from Peru to Israel.
"Social media is the new way to communicate. It's a perfect way to help educate the world about hypnosis."
To join in you need a comfy chair, a computer with an internet connection, and speakers or headphones.
Mr Hughes wants people to make sure they are in a quiet place and will not be disturbed during the live audio webcast. It starts at 8.30pm and will last for around half an hour.
He said: "The session is designed to help people achieve their goals for the new year, whether that's stopping smoking, losing weight or gaining confidence."Hypnotism gives you the ability to accept suggestions for change. It is about changing the core programming of the mind."
Has anyone ever been successfully hypnotised here ? ...and not by the assets of a fair maiden I hasten to add lol:
Do you need to get 'top up's ' after a while to keep feeling the force within you ?????

The NHS tried to hypnotise me once (well several times actually) but they failed to "put me under" each time. The therapist was a nurse specialist at Harefield Hospital, Nr Uxbridge. She had the most enormous ( * Y * ) ......... I found them very distracting redface:
A "healer" in France did induce a trance like state in me on several occasions but that was more a laying on of hands than a "watch this crystal and listen to my voice" type of thing.
The French lady stood behind me and placed her hands on my head to perform her work. Perhaps less of a distraction rubschin:

I had hypnosis earlier last year to help cope with stress and IBS.
Back on 30.01.2009 in this thread (http://www.virtual-pub.com/SMF/index.php?topic=5505.msg123297#msg123297) I wrote
IBS has directed certain parts of my life for many years. When they first diagnosed it, they didn't even have the name, they called it "a nervous stomach". It meant that if I was in crowded areas the stomach started churning, I'd get agitated and a vicious cycle would begin. If I went to a concert I wouldn't eat for at least for one day beforehand so that there was nothing or little to churn Same with any situation where people would feel slightly uncomfortable such as presenting to groups of people, attending court to give evidence (part of the job) etc etc. Ironically, if I get stuck in a traffic queue, I'm get so bloody angry and agitated, so travel is never at peak times, and if I do have to drive at those times, it's always the back routes (far more pleasant anyway)
The way it was explained to me was that the body had eventually decided that this was now the norm, and the cycle had to be broken. The physical side of IBS has always been easy to treat, just avoid the foods that cause the problem. It's the emotional side that had to be addressed. Three sessions in the past three weeks have already made a fantastic difference, sometimes I wonder if she's just instilling confidence as there are a lot of positive words used when I'm listening, but at the end of the session I'm aware that for some of it I "wasn't there". All I do then is try to find time to listen to the CD of the session once a day, then go for the next session and a different CD is made of that session. I suppose it's like peeling back the layers, whatever it is, it seems to be working for me. It's cost me ?210 so far, and I go for what she hopes will be my final appointment in two weeks time
I had two more sessions and hardly have any of the problems any more. If I feel stress coming on, no need to go back, I have the CD's of the sessions that I can use again. ?350 well spent IMHO

Maybe I should get hypnotised to improve my memory lol:
My mother had several sessions years ago to stop her smoking and it seemed to work for about 4 months and then she started up again. She blamed this on me and the stressful time I was having at the time and that she was worried about me eeek:
She is now reconsidering going through this again which is why I was wondering if anyone else has had positive outcomes from such experiences and how you maintained this as you certainly as hell can't guarantee a stress free life.

I have been hypnotised, very successfully too. Trouble is it made me sick2:

Not smoking took no effort at all. From 40 a day and having tried everything to stop over the years I simply said "Enough" and have never smoked again. I don't look on it as stopping smoking though ~ just a long time between ciggies.
Seriously I am convinced that if the time is right and if the person REALLY wants to give it up or at least take a very long break then they can do it ~ if the time is not right or they are not serious then nothing will help them. Better to wait for the moment to come along.

But you are the right sort of person for hypnotism. Not everyone is.

It simply isn't going to happen Snoops - she has smoked all her adult life apart from those 4 months noooo:

In serious mode ~ I smoked from the age of 14 to the age of 50. Never fewer than 40 a day, often also smoked a pipe between ciggies. Tried patches but found even with a nicotine patch on each arm and chewing that revolting nicotine gum I was still smoking 2 packs of Senior Service a day (that gives you quite a high actually). But then ..... An epiphany! One day I just didn't want to smoke any more.

I just read your posts to nod off.

JOM, are the cd's kind of exclusive to your specific requirements or could they be uploaded and fandangled accross?
Why is Paul McKenna advertising this, a quick advert should make us all watch surely?

Exclusive to the individual Mr H. At each session I just chatted about certain aspects that affect or have affected my life. She made mental or written notes, asked me to make myself comfy, close my eyes, then she began the actual hypnotism and I assume used trigger words within the session. I daresay I could keep my eyes open and listen to the whole thing to hear what the remainder of the 30 minutes or so are about, but I think I am only aware of the first couple of minutes.... so how many like me are now thinking there's 28 minutes of silence thereafter ;)
Whatever she did, it worked for me

I had 2 sessions back in 1990 to stop smoking 40 a day. I stopped for a year or so and then I went back to smoking cigars and then roll ups.
I soon realised that I didn't like smoking anymore so I played the tape I was given through headphones one night as I was going to sleep and that was it...not smoked since and dont want to.
What is worrying is that I still sometimes dream that I am smoking. So relieved when I wake up!

The only advantage of my mother smoking is neither me nor my brothers have ever smoked , or ever wanted to.

Both my parents smoked. I started when I was about 14...I used to nick their fags.
My mum died of cancer in 1977 when she was 51 cry: Dad went on until he was 76
-
My brother and I used to get those little exploding caps and put them in the end of my mum's fags ...randomly through her packet like. Used to be great fun sitting there watching telly and suddenly bang...and then we'd run like hell as she started ranting.
She got wise to this and started checking the end of them before she lit it tho noooo:
So we moved the game up a notch and used to get hold of her ciggies ...take out half the baccy and then place them delicately in half way..... whistle:

I'm somewhat sceptical about hypnosis (most things in fact)...
I always wonder why these 'amazing powers' aren't used by the police to fight crime - interviewing suspects for instance or even witnesses (who are notoriously bad at remembering facts).
Surely, if you really could hypnotise somebody as Paul Mcwhotsit regularly demonstrates you could get them to give amazingly detailed accounts of the crime and their assailant or whatever...
Eh? EH?

Unless the hypnotist has hoooooge tits redface:

Yet another thread hits the gutter noooo:

cussing: It happened to me ~ not my fault, she said look at my face and there they were, just below her chin, wobbling at me. She then said "Concentrate" .... I tried, I really, really did but those damned wobbling mammaries kept looming into my line of sight.
