Title: An odd remark?
Post by: Uncle Mort on February 05, 2010, 11:01:47 AM
From the manager of a skydiving club where a chap fell to his death:

"The parachute was working properly and the automatic activation device worked properly, but the man failed to operate it."

 rubschin:

It reminds of a chapter heading from (I think) a Philip K. Dick novel:

'It's supposed to be automatic but actually you have to press a button.'

Was this a suicide then ?

As saying "he fell to his death"  would imply an accident surely ?

Speaking as an ex member of the RAF I have never understood the desire to jump out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft.

I used to do lots of skydiving...  cloud9:

The AOD (Automatic Opening Device) needs to be set at ground level before the aircraft takes off  - it is relatively simple to not set it properly...

The AOD (Automatic Opening Device) needs to be set at ground level

 rubschin:

Isn't it better to set it to open a bit higher than that?
