Title: Smoking Ban Injustice
Post by: Barman on March 02, 2010, 06:11:30 AM
Has everybody read about the Nick Hogan case...?

Quote
There has been a fair amount of comment in the blogosphere regarding the six month jail sentence given to Nick Hogan for flouting the 'no-smoking ban'.

Outrage has been duly expressed, here, there, and everywhere. Perhaps we can do better than just express outrage?

Nick was actually jailed for non-payment of the fine originally imposed for a 'mass smoke-in' on the day the ban came into force in 2007 in his pub, the 'Swan and Barristers' in Bolton. He no longer has that pub. He was fined again when council inspectors walked into his present pub and discovered a group of customers smoking - Nick wasn't even on the premises.

As usual, Leg-Iron does an excellent summary of it here. (http://underdogsbiteupwards.blogspot.com/2010/03/its-war-and-your-side-is-shooting-you.html)

Follow the links and go and donate something to the fund - even is it is only a quid.

Especially you Nick you rich chain-smoking git!  lol:

Quote from OH:-

"I have just spent an entire day and 600 miles in a car with Beauty and the Beast.

Conversation snippet on M1 near Nottingham

?right, so if we get stopped now by the Police, we have:

Expensive video cameras
?9000 in cash in a suitcase
The address of a Cat B prison on the Sat Nav
Substances
Mask, wig and gloves in the boot
A fit bird (Emily Nomates), fast asleep in the back
A posh talking unshaven walrus in the passenger seat (Tory Bear)
A swivel eyed loon driving.

We might be late after explaining that little lot. By about six fucking months?

Here we go again then ey? ::)

An anti-smoking charity has called for Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn to be prosecuted for smoking a cigarette on stage on the first night of a tour.
The former Blur singer was seen to light up a cigarette while performing at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth on Sunday night.
Bass guitarist Paul Simonon, formerly of The Clash, also smoked during the show in front of an "intimate" audience of about 500 fans.
Now the anti-smoking charity Action on Smoking and Health (Ash) has called for Albarn and Simonon to be prosecuted to make an example of them.

Spokeswoman Amanda Sandford said: "There can be no excuse for that as it is an indoor place and the law is very clear. We are not allowed to smoke on stage unless it's relevant to the act. They should be fined. It's not just the artist, it's the premises where the act is held. I would expect the local authority to take the appropriate action.
"It's not just illegal but more importantly it's about the message it sends out to fans. People in the public eye have a duty not to promote smoking. It's very irresponsible - I suppose they think it's rebellious and they may get some extra kudos from it and maybe some extra publicity."

And that's the point ~ It is relevant to their act..... they are Rock Musicians and the whole point of their act, as with all Rock Stars, is that it is rebellion.
So the ASH spokesperson shoots off her mouth and hits her own foot

Typical response from the health fascists - when in doubt, try to get it banned. Utter morons. This in the same week when we learned (surprise, surprise) that "invisible" air pollution could be killing up to 50,000 per year (a damn sight more that passive smoking is alleged to kill). A lot of this pollution comes from cars, so why don't they advocate banning cars? This would mean that the poor little children would have to walk - again a health benefit to the majority of the little fatsos - and their parents could enjoy a nice fag in the open air as they walk with them.

This is more a question of good parenting - if you smoke, don't do it with your children in the car. Isn't it obvious to anyone with a modicum of common sense?

The ban won't, of course, stop the irresponsible parents shovelling burgers, chips, crisps and cola down the little darlings, but hey, at least they can sleep soundly knowing their little Bunters haven't inhaled that treacherous 2nd hand smoke.

Wuckfittery of the first order   evil:

Labour Party Manifesto 2005

Quote
"We recognise that many people want smoke-free environments and need regulation to help them get this. We therefore intend to shift the balance significantly in their favour. We will legislate to ensure that all enclosed public places and workplaces other than licensed premises will be smoke-free. The legislation will ensure that all restaurants will be smoke-free; all pubs and bars preparing and serving food will be smoke-free; and other pubs and bars will be free to choose whether to allow smoking or to be smoke-free. In membership clubs the members will be free to choose whether to allow smoking or to be smoke-free. However, whatever the general status, to protect employees, smoking in the bar area will be prohibited everywhere.".

I had a 'slight' altercation and 'discussion'  whistle: with an officious official at Venice railway station on Monday for disgracefully DARING to roll a ciggy on their open air platform.

This is all getting beyond a joke now.
