This coming Sunday (next Sunday as of today, Friday lol: ) 14th Feb.
11:00 am kick off I think.
I'm actually looking forward to this season as I think it could turn out to be quite toasty entertainment for a change.
Who's going to win the crown this time then ey? rubschin:
My money unfortunately is on that nasty little prick Alonso. evil:
Don't rule out the Brits or Shuey either.
Bring it on! happy088
-
Alonso 2nd in first practice this morning.
Get down to Ladbrokes now for a long term punt I reckon....unfortunately. ::)

I see this thread is so unpopular that Growler has to reply to himself noooo:

Surely it is only right that it goes round in a loop whistle:

Bit like yerself then really. ::)
So unpopular you have to talk to yerself.
Piss off if you don't like it. cussing:

Oh ffs. ::)

I'm going to give this procession one more viewing, and if things aren't significantly more flamin' interesting than the opening round, they can stuff it...not that you lot are interested anyway of course. ::)
-
Hi Growler. Good race that wan'it?

Hi Growler. Good race that wan'it?
Yup!
Hamilton was understandably furious over the totally uneccessary tyre change though wasn't he? Angry9:
-
Hamilton's a happy bunny.

Hamilton's a happy bunny.
Scuse me, this is my thread where I talk to meself like, ok? ::)
He was indeed understandably angry though. Drove a fine race too.

How do you know you are talking to yourself?

How do you know you are talking to yourself?
Cus I can 'ear voices in me 'ed.
Nick sez so anyway, and he's always right. ::)

Didn't watch the race but did hear the result on the wireless this morning. happy088

Was actualy quite exciting tbh, but only the weather can take the credit for that.
ALL tracks shoud be soaked just before F1 races.

A appreciate that in the likes of Dubai etc, with temperatures hovering around 35-40c, the track would dry out mighty fast, but a few dozen bowsers dumping thousands of gallons on the track just minutes before the start would lead to a fantastic spectacle initially.
No doubt the 'Association of Far East Tree Huggers and Preservation Society' would have a slightly different outlook on my proposal though. ::)
-
The idea of racing only on a wet track would confirm my suspicion that motor racing fans are more interested in the crashes than anything.

Not so. Wet tracks make for a more level playing field - the superiority of any given machinery is negated to a great extent and simply leaves the skill of the rider/driver as the primary factor in the outcome.
Although the crashes are good. redface:

Far too few crashes these days, they could be making a mahoosive contribution to the world of Bingo noooo:

Absolutely and 100% correct Moaniomondo. happy088
Sorry Snoops, but whilst there may in fact be a bit of truth in your statement, the TRUE fans of motor sport want and need to watch fully entertaining skillful and close exciting race.
A wet track will provide that as was the case today.
You'll have to bow to Moanio's and my superior knowledge on this matter on this occassion. cloud9:

worthy: worthy:
-
As demonstrated here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WC7-qvBZbZw
Shane Byrne on a crock of a bike (I think my old Triumph is faster) built up a lead of nearly a minute purely because he can ride in the wet. The others, on far, far superior machinery simply couldn't keep up. He finished 2nd in the race because his stoopid team kept him out too long when the track dried.
-
worthy: worthy:
That's most excellent, and thank you. lol:
Skill and exciting wheel to wheel racing is what we yearn for, NOT the lucky one who simply leads a procession in the best and fastest car/bike /whatever. noooo:
The BTCC usually provides such enjoyment, as does the 24hour race at the Nurburgring that I attend every year....only 6 weeks to go! cloud9:

Shite! Missed it cry:

Shite! Missed it cry:
Have you checked the listings for a repeat Pasties?
It was on again at lunchtime, I know that, but that doesn't really help now does it. noooo:

Pasties! It's on i player!

Good wan'it? happy088
I seriously think they should introduce a sprinkler system on F1 circuits. rubschin:
Didn't see the Superbikes race. Any good Moanyio?
Had our very own local motorbike racing going on 'round 'ere yesterday.
The annual acting like a complete and utter dick on a motorcycle Easter Egg charity bike run.
All you could hear all day long were bikers 'screwing the nuts' off their bikes at 13,000 rpm in the 30 and 40 limits. ::)
I suspect the local rozzers made a financial killing again.

The 2 Superbike races were OK, but I've seen better. My man Shakey Byrne needs to pick up 0.5 sec per lap to be competitive - still loads of time to go, though.
-
Almost as boring as the Oz race. Procession again, bar one or two engine failures and some early overtaking.
Boring boring.
Sprinkler system is the way forward. I'll get in touch with Bernie about it. happy088

Anybody been able to get on the FIA site?
Doesn't seem at all responsive since yesterdays decision about team orders - wonder why.

I'm dead excited, as the Season draws to a close. My Son is pretty eager for Hamilton to win, I just want the best driver to win. ;)
-
Unfortunately even Hamilton doesn't rate his chances. Been a good season though.
-
Hammy needs to finish at least 4th to stand any remorte chance of winning the title.
Can't see the other 3 contenders failing though tbh.
Has actually been quite a good season this year.
-
Personally, Webber is my favourite to win, he really wants this title. Vettel also deserves to win, but only the best man will win.
I don't care who wins, as long as it's a good race.
-
My prediction.
Vettel to win, Hamilton second, Alonso 3rd, thus Alonso will very unfortunately be the world champ by 3:00pm this avvy. Banghead
Can't see Hamilton receiving the incredible dollop of luck he now needs to win the championship, and Webber has blown it now sadly I fear. ::)
I shall turn the tv off as soon as it's impossible for anyone other than Alonso to win it.
-
How many do you think will finish the race?
-
What's this tel? Spread betting?
-
Not a bad result that tbh.
Would have preffered Hammy or Webber obviously, but the young Geeeeerman is a seemingly nice lad that comes over pdg really.
So satisfying to see Alonso hurling his dummy and teddy out of the car on the parade lap, and even better seeing Petrov swerving his car towards the nasty little spick prick as though to say, DON'T wave yer fist at me you nasty cheating whinging whining twat. eveilgrin:
Petrov is my new best friend. cloud9:

Line up for the Grand Prix this weekend!

What is all this bollix about spraying water o9n the track to make it more exciting? It'll be like 'It's a Knockout' with teams playing their joker and stuff next... noooo:
Just ban pit stops and make them carry a full fuel load on one set of tyres - they'll have to akchoewlee race each other then and not rely on 'tactics' as they so often do now...
Simples! cool14:
-
Just make it like a demolition derby - would be much more fun.
Instead of 50 odd laps of - "oh look the person who was in pole position is still there, although a couple of overtakes have occurred and some new wheels have been put on " sleep017
-
maybe they could tie the cars to bungee jump stretchy thingies.
-
Steeple chase stylee would be good to watch.
"And they are coming up to the first hurdle,Oh Dear! Red Bull has unseated his driver and is now driverless but still keeping up with the pack"
-
maybe they could tie the cars to bungee jump stretchy thingies.
lol: lol: lol:
-
I agree with Barman. I want to see one race, not a series of sprints. And dump all the telemetry and the wings. I wanna see some sideways action !
This last race was as dull as last season.
-
This last race was as dull as last season.
So... that's not dull at all.
-
I was listening to the pre-race build-up on the wireless and it does all sound a bit 'Whacky Races' with this new wing thing that only works if you are a second behind at the last bend or whatever... plus the energy recycling thing to boost BHP for a short period... Plus up to FOUR bastard pit stops this year they reckon... doh:
Just let the bastards race... and as for technology, just limit the engine size and let them do whatever they want beyond that... turbo charging, traction control, whatever... but ONE set of tires and no re-fuelling.... The technology all evens out in the end and ther skill of the driver will become important again.... happy088
Then I might bother watching it... ;)
-
Might as well just have a game of Scalextric ...much more fun cloud9:
-
I think you'll find that refueling isn't allowed this season. Tyres wear so need changing but there are rules and restrictions on their use. I as far as I can see the driver's skill is always the deciding factor. I doubt any of us could drive an F1 car out of the pit lane let alone race.
-

It remonded me of that... I used to have a 'Scalextric' stylee thing when I was a boy... it had a slot track but the car hat batteries instead of picking power up from the track... and you had buttons on the side so you could change the route and re-direct your opponent... With hindsight it was more of a cops and robbers game than a F1 thing... or I might have imagined it.... rubschin:

I am not looking to prolong the argument but the new roolz do state that they MUST use both hard and soft compound tyres during the race so at least one tyre change is mandatory. Exceptions can be made, at the race stewards' discretion, in the event of rain during the race.
As far as I understand it the rule changes over the last 10 years or so have been driven firstly by a desire to prevent death and/or serious injury but latterly the impetus has been to try to even out the technical superiority of one vehicle over another and make it more of a driver skills competition. Of course the "teams" have resisted this as they know that a tweak here and there, using modern computer designed equipment, can make a difference. At the end of the day it is the motor manufacturers who want to sell more cars that put up the money to prove that their vehicle is superior. Many of the things, ABS, Power Steering, etc. that we take for granted and have all become common place on the cars we buy, have first been developed for racing cars.
All that said I still maintain that the chance of a "pile up" is the main reason most of us watch what has become, for many, only marginally less boring than listening to snooker on the wireless. Personally I'd rather watch horse racing or a game of football and I am not that fond of either sport but they do still depend on the skill of the riders and players far more that the latest bit of technology.

I agree with you...
And I see no reason why they have to keep nipping in and out of the pits - unless the driver needs a slash it should be unnecessary....
A race with harder tyres and no pitting (unless they had a puncture or the driver needed a piss) would be much mo0re exciting... I suspect the only reason they have this (ridiculous) mandatory tyre change is because the whole procession is sooooo predictable and boring after the first corner...
-
I did watch last weekend's race and there seemed to me to be more bumps than last year .... mainly, I thought, because of the new roolz which made the drivers take risks that they didn't need to take last season. Red Bull clearly have "something extra" going for their car .... as Lewis Hamilton was the first to suggest in his apres race interview.
There is certainly a measure of skill and strength needed in the driver's seat that the average motorist lacks and the drivers do have to be willing to take the chance of injury or worse that many of us would not want to take but then for the money they get they have every reason to...... That said I have seen some bloody lunatics on the public roads who seem to have the same mind-set but not the skills or the vehicles to handle it.

I tend to feel that way about it too Miss D, but it was on when I came in from the garden and they were just about to start. I thought I'd watch the first couple of laps as that's when any action happens (I think 99% watch for the accidents) but for once it wasn't a procession after corner one. I watched till the end.

It must be 2 - 3 years since I last watched a grand prix, it had become too much of a procession for my liking. Having seen the track before, I was drawn to todays because of the track, buildings, location. Glad I watched it now, great race, and floodlit racing seemed to enhance the whole thing

Crashes do tend to make it interesting. rubschin:
Gutted for Hammy though, as the race was his up until his retirement. sad32:

Dunno, here's their terms and conditions

We could sort our own compo like but it'd be hard work (big allergy), Growler would pretend he doesn't understand and we'd argue over the rules
-
Mmmmmmm rubschin:
I'd be up for this, but I'm not quite sure what format we could do it in. rubschin:
Individual races after qualifying, or cumulitive over the whole season?
Dunno. confused:
-
That's why I suggested having an Autosport fantasy league, they do all the hard work
We could have a compo per race but we'd all want Vettel each race.
-
Count me in
I have been waiting since November for the season to start.... inane:
-
Haven't really read up on too much for the forthcoming season, but McLaren are in total disarray apparently.
Same as last years car only slower according to Button.
Looks like yet another Red Bull domination so far, and Merc are suprisingly not actually that far behind. rubschin:

They definitely say the main game is free
How much does Fantasy F1 League cost to enter?
Fantasy F1 League is free to enter and free to play for the whole season. All money used in the game is virtual money.
. . . .
What is a subleague and how does it work?
A subleague is a league that you can create to have some fun and compete with family, friends or other users you have met at Fantasy F1 League. These are separate from the main league and only users with the league id and password are able to join, unless the league is set to public, in which case anyone can enter.
. . . . .
For the 2013 Formula One season, you will be managing your own team based on the results of the Official Season.
You will have a budget of $100 million to spend on 4 drivers, 1 Constructor, and 1 Engine.
You will be allocated 7 transfers to purchase your fantasy f1 team, with 1 transfer remainding, incase you wish to make any last minute changes before your first race weekend.
You will be allowed to make one change to your team per race. Once/if you have used your transfer allocations, your team is locked in for the next race weekend.

Right that seems to work
Have created the We run on Voddy league and the password is sportsbar
Only 4 Hours left
You have to register at http://www.fantasyf1league.com/user.php (http://www.fantasyf1league.com/user.php)
And pick one team, one engine, four drivers within the $100M budget and then pick one of your drivers under $15M to be "the talent"
I do not understand how the engine bit works. FWIW I picked for team "Wot no Wheels"
F1 Team: Red Bull
Engine: Williams Renault (looks like a team name to me)
Drivers: Hamilton, Maldonado, Gutierez and Bottas
Leaving me with $500k in the bank
Only 4 Hours left

I think this may all be a busted flush Boogs but I suspect you are now "locked out" until after the Oz GP
Twas all a bit last minute then bastard Autosport not saying til the very last minute in the process that they wanted a tenner didn't leave enough time
Options
- we just give up and let Apey run whatever "F1 bingo" turns out to be
- we all agree the Oz GP does not count and then carry on regardless
- we have another cunning plan

Round 2
Loved the interview at the start of beeb coverage with Kimi (he's my man for this year's title) he is such a pisstaker you never know what he is going to come out with next...
-
Yes he was a bit taciturn but he amuses.
Sky had a clip from tomorrow's coverage where he is teaching one of theirs how to rally drive on ice. You can clearly hear Kimi laughing
That Suzi Perry seems to be doing OK
-
Why don't we just do a race by race result prediction?
Nice and simple like....1 point for every correct position in the top three , with a bonus point if you get the whole prediction correct, yes? Shrugs:
1st...Vettel
2nd...Alonso
3rd...Hamilton.
-
We have a plan ^ and a good one ;D. I agree, please organise it
-
We have a plan ^ and a good one ;D. I agree, please organise it
feel free to join in then!
I've given my prediction, you's lot do likewise before 'kick off', and we'll add up the scores at the end of the race with some sort of leauge table.
latecomers are even welcome, but the more races you predict the outcoma of (top three) the betterer the chance of you winning a coveted GOLDEN Pineapple. cloud9:

separate thread maybe?
Anyway
1st Alonso
2nd Vettel
3rd Massa

So Webber v Vettel wot we reckon like?
IMHO the key point was when Red Bull never told Vettel to let Webber go by again. Frit of the reaction from Ze Fatherland most likely
Will Webber turn up in China, will Vettel gift him a return win? Wot we reckon?

To much to loose not to turn up but one thing is for sure if I was Webber tonight I would be decking the b--tard... boxing
-
The smart thing fo Vettel to do is give his race fee to Webber's charity and announce that he will be agreeing with Webber how he can correct the error on the track and ensure the team does not miscommunicate again.
Vettel was well in the wrong but does anyone believe he'd have stayed in front if the team had told him to et Webber go back in front again? Not me and Vettel really did seem shocked at the reaction at the end.
But he needs to do something to repair his bankability to sponsors.
-
Like the old time wrestling on TV = All Results Are Rigged. ::)
I honestly don't know why people buy into F1. noooo:
-
F1 isn't rigged, it's just that it's both an individual race and a team race simultaneously. This early in the season the value of points for the team will outweigh a driver's points. Later on, with drivers fighting for the champion's podium, the team gets relegated to second place.
Vettel however, has never been a team player.
