Been and collected my Motability machine. Cool or what ..... well it beats the hell out of sitting around indoors. Now I get to go out and ...... errrr .... sit around on an electric scooter. razz:
Top speed 8mph.
Range 25 miles on a single charge
Charge time 4 hours
Turning circle better than a London Black Cab.
SWWLTBO suggested I should start a Village Chapter of Granddads Angles evil:
Minor suggested that I have a leather jacket with "THE MILD BUNCH" in studs on the back evil:
Minimus wants to take it for a spin noooo:
Anywhoooo I'm pleased. cloud9:
The THW says it is all tooooo embarrassing and hopes her friends don't see me angry041:

Can it take all terrain tyres then?
Can it go up 'ills, like MY 'ill?
Is it heavy to lift like?
What's the suspension on it?
Can we 'mod' it, to get a bit more 'out of it' p'raps?
rubschin:
Can I 'ave a go too like...please? lol:
-
You can be the VP designated driver cloud9:
Seriously though must be great to feel like you can get out and about again whenever you choose happy088

Can it take all terrain tyres then? ~ Solid Tyres
Can it go up 'ills, like MY 'ill? ~ Unlikely to take that sort of gradient or surface. It is a road/pavement mobility aid not a "Tramper" see below
Is it heavy to lift like? ~ Yes, if you consider 6 stone heavy
What's the suspension on it? ~ They don't come with suspension unless you pay ?Ks
Can we 'mod' it, to get a bit more 'out of it' p'raps? ~ Only if you know of a way to increase the power of an electric motor ~ No Nick a bigger battery won't do it noooo:
rubschin:
Can I 'ave a go too like...please? lol: YES
FFS it is only a cheap electric mobility scooter not a quad bike.
An all terrain "Tramper" which would do the things Growler wants costs ?5850. I cannot afford such a machine unless I sell the Landrover and that would sort of defeat the purpose. Also most of the larger, faster, all terrain mobility scooters will not come apart to fit the back of a car so wherever you want to go you either travel the whole way at a maximum of 8mph and are limited to a range of 25 miles (max) OR you need a van and ramp just to transport your transport. Doesn't make economic sense to me.

Sell it!
Stuff it! happy088
Snoops. We could have ENORMOUS fun out in the wilds with that, AND it'll fit in the back of me van too probably. I'll even build a ramp for it if you like.
Us blokes NEED a hobby, and this can be yours with my assistance. cloud9:

You could try fitting rockets to it angel1

Tell you, when this bastard illness of mine finally halts my walking, IF it does, and it won't in a hurry I can tell you eveilgrin: I WILL find the money for one of these.
Reading that http://www.tramper.co.uk/ has given me hope for the future IF it ever comes to that....it won't however, so no worries I suppose. ;)

I have been educating small boys.
Half an hour of mental 'rithmetic followed by spellings followed by general knowledge. Whilst one does mental maths on 'puter the other does half an hour music practice then they swap round. If I don't supervise they skive off.
SWWLTBO is now working with them creating a history time line. Later they are going to make butter as a science project.
This arfty I am back in mortar board and gown so we'll be doing summat practical like as SWWLTBO is running a poetry workshop in Rhyl library
I may take them, on their bikes, to the park ~ now that I too can go on my new scooter. cloud9:
We will do "Nature Study" there

Well I already know the difference between an Oak and an Ash tree whistle:
Besides ~ as Growler so rightly says ..... "A man needs a hobby"

Talking of hobbies, I've just recently found out, and mentioned my approval today to MM, happy088 that the lad she went out with for a bike ride a few weeks ago, is an ardent steam train buff, at the age of just 16! eeek:
He apparently went especially on his own to see some random steam engine that was passing through Chester staion last Sunday.
I've told MM that she is more than welcome to invite him for tea with my FULL approval. cloud9:
She seems fairly dis-interested though very sadly for me. cry:
Nice looking lad too from the piccies I've seen from the Proms they all went on a couple of weeks ago.
Not at all geeky with bottle bottoms and regulation note book and pencil, wearing a beige anorak. noooo:
-
Growler
Your first mistake was in "approving" him ~ she will now have no interest in him at all EVER!
Only ever "approve" boys you would hate to see her with
Express deep reservations about any you would think suitable and she will instantly love them
Best to keep out of the way and out of sight ..... she will settle on someone in the end no matter what you say or do.

All new to me this latest phase.
I really thought she woulfd be pleased that I was showing great keeness. He's obviously quite a stable lad imo, and nice area he lives in too. rubschin:
Apparently he was talking about the old railway line that used to run along the Wirral Country Park foot and cycle path that they were riding along.
Wish I'd gone along with them now too to chat with him. Love steam engines I do. cloud9:
I really am disappointed. cry:
Bloody wimmin ey? No taste. Banghead
-
I really wish I'd found a wumman many years ago, that didn't mind getting her hands dirty, and took great delight in coming home stinking of oil, coal dust and steam.
I look enviously at blokes whose female partners are as obviously keen on their spouses hobbies as they are.
Such a rarity sadly.
No, you can keep your fancy frocks and muticoloured finger nails.
Do absolutely nowt for me, as impressive as they may look to some. Each to their own.
Old boiler suits grubby mitts and oil stained face on a pretty wumman is just fine in my book....as long as she scrubs up nice for certain special occasions like.
Does Mrs M. approve of your mechanical adventures Moany?
Does anyones missus in here in fact? Shrugs:

I think sharing an interest in something is good but you also need to have your own pleasures and activities that do not involve your other half .
But then whadda i know lol:

Oh yes, totally agree with that, but WHY do most wimmin seem to gain great pleasure in knocking us blokes down regarding our love of mechanical tinkering, great oiliness, desire to discuss these items with great passion and pride and desire to make things look nice and show them off?
BM has seemingly now fallen into this cess pit of wummanly dis-approval now too. ::)

What are little boys made of?
Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails
That's what little boys are made of !"
What are little girls made of?
"Sugar and spice and all things nice
That's what little girls are made of!"
This little poem is said to date back at least 300 years.
It is in the nature of things that Mothers try to bring their daughters up to be nice, clean, pretty and polite. It has it's origins in the need to get daughters married off quickly as they were of no use in earning money for the household. Boys were brought up to be rough and tough and do "manly" things from the word go. This was to enable them to help their fathers in feeding the rest of the family.
Little has changed in that regard.
My two boys still rate girls as either "OK I s'pose" or "Yuck ~ She's a Kissy Girl"
The THW spent years saying how horrid boys were until the past couple of years ~ now she likes them well enough (so long as they aren't her brothers) BUT hates the things they want to do (other than the nooky bit obviously ~ that she seems all too keen on)

I got scolded by a fellow mountain biker for not wearing a helmet.
I told him it was MY choice, and that 1) I felt uncomfortable wearing one, 2) they make me 'ed sweat, 3) I'd rather die doing something I enjoy than to lie in a hospital bed before finally croaking it with me uncurable illness, finally choking on me own saliva after 6 weeks with tubes sticking out of every orifice. cussing:
He looked slightly embarrased and rode off without another werd, H&S tosser.

Precisely...
-
Look. We've all got to croak it one day. I think about it sometimes, more as I get older.
As I say to sheeples, it's not the being ded that worries and concerns me, it's the bit leading up to it that makes me shit meself. Seen to many folk suffer terribly, and it's not for me if I can possibly avoid it thank you.
Shouldn't really make light of it I know, but it's what eventually 'appens in'it?
I sincerley hope I croak it on a mountain somewhere nice like, problee a 'eart attack, and preferably accelerated by some mountain nymph that i randomly stumble across. cloud9:
-
I'm in two minds about the wearing of safety helmets on me mountain bike. Like you Growler, I actually hate wearing the effing thing; in fact I didn't even possess one until a few years ago when someone gave me theirs 'cos they no longer needed it.
There's nothing like feeling the wind through your hair (BM take note!) ;) , but I do acknowledge that here in the 'smoke' it's all too common to get clipped by a truck with fatal consequences and the helmet might save your life.
Added to that I remember vividly the story of the young son of an acquaintance who was mountain biking up your way G in Ellesmere Forest; poor lad got launched off his bike and straight into a tree and died of brain damage. Aside from the tragedy I suspect he's was attempting things he wasn't really capable of, and not wearing the appropriate gear suffered the consequences noooo:
-
This whole thing started with the compulsory wearing of crash helmets for motorcyclists... evil:
From that followed seat bets in cars, rear seat belts, crash helmets on bikes and gawd knows what other restrictions on our liberty...
I'm with growler... I'd like the option to make my own decisions and take my own risks...
Nanny State, fuck right off! cussing:

Last statement ... precisely. I'd like to reserve the choice for myself! ;D
-
But now these statements of ours will lead us w i d e open to those that will turn around and say, "that's all well and good, but it won't be you that has to pick the pieces up."
Well I'd personally rather that than some poor nurse having to turn some life support machine off with your distraught family looking on.
Whatever, however, this is not a particulary pleasant subject to be discussing, especially as it's your BD BM.
