Title: The all new "I may have cancer" thread
Post by: Nick on June 20, 2010, 03:33:12 PM
Been brooding about this since Friday and now time to share. Had loads of blood tests a while back and one has come back showing signs of cancer. Appointment at local specialist horsepickle (Growler will know where) later this week for scans and suchlike. NO sympathy required. Just part of the wear and tear of life I guess!

That's the second person this weekend.
Hairdresser has prostate type, gland to be removed end of this month.

Early days Nick, a lot can happen.

Not direct personal experience, but lots of friends and relatives, including FIL and currently my dad.

Sorry to hear that Nick.

It is an awful worry but sounds like the detection is early.

Don't let it get to you and do what the experts tell you.

We will continue to take the mickey out of you as usual just to make you feel we are not actually being sympathetic.

Not good  noooo:

I take it it's early signs which means plenty of time to get it sorted.

If I believed it that sort of thing I'd be stroking my lucky rabbits foot on your behalf. But as I don't, trust the doctors.

Sorry to hear this but, it is manageable or so I'm told.

Doing me laps this morning met up with an old chum who's taken to brisk walking too after a fall while jogging. He's had bowel cancer for about three years now I think and it's being managed and seems to be in remission. We discovered we were both in HK at the same time earlier this year and we never knew! He's just turned 78  eeek:

That's a p*sser  matey but you will be OK .... most people are these days.

I wouldn't tell her ~ she has forfeited all rights to know such things.

As for the Boy ~ he is far too bright to be taken in by all that catholic mumbo jumbo for long and will grow out of it. At the moment he likes the smoke and mirrors and of course he realises that acquiescence is easier than confrontation with Mrs Nick.

This is gingerbread man we are talking about.

That is exactly where he would end up.

Also, if they decide any treatment is needed, he should make sure to write HERE in indelible ink on the selected part of his body.  noooo:

Well, that wasn't TOO bad. Loads of blood tests. Scan. Some dye. No results yet. Have to call tomorrow and go back Monday, or call. All a bit vague. Someone calls tomorrow, I gather.

Results "inconclusive". The scans show nothing but they are still fretting about some blood reading and want to "keep an eye" on me. More blood offered up today  ::) I think I have an empty arm  noooo:  I am certainly black and blue. and I hate needles.  evil:

More results later in the week.

Probably good news.

If they cant find the main signs it means they have some other abnormal indicator which might, under some circumstances, indicate cancer.

They will bugger about and worry you for several weeks more, before deciding you have a slight thyroid/liver/spleen/ulcer problem or are borderline diabetic/anaemic/asthmatic/menopausal/senile.

Carry on as what passes for normal in Nick-world is my advice and take whatever medication they give you.  ;)

Question
What does the word inconclusive mean in a doctor's report?

Answer
As in a non-medical sense, the term refers to a question or issue that has not been fully resolved.

In a doctor's report, this means that tests have not shown up an exact diagnosis or have not confirmed or denied what was being tested for.

It means no one is exactly sure of an exact answer in the capacity the term is used, eg if a report says 'blood tests have been inconclusive' it means these have not shown up anything helpful. I hope this helps you.

Yours sincerely

Dr Roger Henderson, GP

Well thanks Roger, that was inconclusive.
