Got a phone call of me 'bessy' last night, to inform me that he's been sacked for gross misconduct. eeek:
8 years of impecable work for this main car stealer, totally honest and almost boringly straight as a dye.
His crime?
He's 'earmarked a new 2nd hand car that had been taken in as a 'swapper' for his son and placed it to one side and paid for it for what it owed the company WITHOUT asking permission from the dealer principle first.
Permission is never sought, and as long as the staff don't take the piss buying cars to make a financial gain on a regular basis, then it's deemed acceptable apparently. An unwritten rule and has been going on for years.
He apologised both verbally and by letter and withdrew his interest in the car immidiately.
This time however the boss has dragged him in for a disciplinary hearing, suspended him for a week, dragged him back in yesterday and given him instant dismisal for gross misconduct. eeek:
To say that both he AND his sales manager were gobsmacked was an understatement.
He has been told he can appeal apparently.
Now never having been unemployed in his entire life, he's actually at a bit of a loss as to what he should now do?
How does he appeal and to whom, and is it going to cost him ££££££££'s
He's been told that he can 'resign' if he'd prefer that, presumably to look better on his CV?
I dunno and am of little help on these matters tbh.
Everybody agrees btw that there is a hidden agenda to all this, as the stealership is having a very bad time on sales and is therefore looking for cutbacks. rubschin:

Nah, but he did mention for me NOT to go in there and punch the MD's fuckin' lights out next time I'm in there as he knows I can get a bit stroppy sometimes...apparently, alledgedly, so some say like. whistle:
I want to help him as much as I can though, cus he's been a really true and good genuine friend of mine for over 35 years now.

He hasn't got a home PC anyway, so I can't even send him a link. ::)
Does he go to see a solicitor? Citizens Advice?
Who, exactly, and is it going to cost him, or is he better just 'resigning' and moving on? Shrugs:

CAB is a good enough starting point, but they will point him towards a Tribunal and he would be advised to get legal representation. If he is in some sort of professional association or a union he could get that free.

'Stealers' don't 'do' unions apparently, which is exactly how they get away woth 'murder' so often.

Nowt written in tablets of stone, but a generally accepted practice apparently, PROVIDING they aren't purchasing vehicles on a regular basis to make profit/take profit away from the company.
He's coming to G jnrs BIG 18th bash tomorrow night, so I wanted some ammo to give him, and p'raps a few werds of encouragement and hope like. cloud9:

Meanwhile he sees this now as a great opprotunity to finally escape from the viperous bloody sucking motor trade. He's NOT going back into car sales and will sweep the streets if needs be apprently...IF there are any road sweeping jobs left to be had of course? ::)

Clearly the "Boss" is using this as a way of clearing out some staff.
Taking a case to Tribunal costs nowt but legal representation will. CAB can and do supply a "Friend" free of charge. He is unlikely to find a "No win no fee" lawyer for such a case .... no big bucks in it for them. If your mate wins then his legal costs will be payable by the employer.

He'd apparently been to see a solicitor on Friday and advised that this sort of trivial reason dismisal has increased by about 400% in the last 18 months. eeek:
First question he asked was, is the company having financial problems?
Anyway, he's not pusuing the matter through tribunal as the solicitor reckons he's only got a 50/50 chance of winning anyway.
So another one hits the dole que.

I know the head honcho of my local Vauxhall stealer quite well.
I went in there today to do a job for them, and marched straight into his office and said to him, "give my bessy mate a job or I'll smash yer face in" eveilgrin:

Well it didn't do any harm, as he asked me to ring him to email his CV through, and i received a call just 1 hour later telling me he'd got an interview this avvy..
