Title: Appeal for Money for Flood Victims
Post by: Snoopy on August 06, 2010, 12:42:34 PM
I really do feel dreadfully sorry for the people of Pakistan who have lost family and friends to the monsoon caused floods but these appeals for us to part with yet more money to aid them are a bit much. Compassion is one thing but I think we all know that some if not most of the money will not go to the victims. I personally have a deep rooted objection to parting with my cash to help people who will, we know, be happy to bomb us to Kingdom Come next week.

Anywhooo ~ their own president is sooooo concerned he is lording it around Europe being feted as a "Head of State" with banquets, following which more food will the thrown away than many of his people will see in a month. He is not alone. The Pakistani Information Minister is also in Europe, preceeding his President (presumably to make sure the beds are aired or summat). They have a 30+ man cricket squad playing happily in a series of test matches in the UK (There is one starting today in Nottingham, weather permitting) Haven't noticed any of them rushing home to help bale out.

No ~ I'm sorry but if you live in a monsoon prone country and build your houses out of mud whilst building up enormous quantities of nuclear weapons, armed forces and throwing $$$$ millions in support to our enemies then you really do have a fvcking cheek asking us to help.

Let us not forget that you asked us to leave when we gave you the best standards of life, education and protection you have ever known. 1947 ended our responsibilities toward you as far as I am concerned. Sort it for yourselves.

Agreed...

The government will piss enough of our money away to them without anybody else putting their hands in their pockets...

I object to round the clock pleading adverts from so called 'charities' too - fuck all of them!  cussing:

The forever majority of hoodwinked sheeples of our society will gladly hand over their 'hard earned' though, and then many will openly slap themselves on the back so everyone will then know just how thoughtful caring and generous they are. ::)

Got a 'charity bag mountain' here now btw if anyone's interested? whistle:

Added to which their President is only President because he rode a tidal wave of angst after the assassination of his wife and he's here in the UK trying to pave the way for a hereditary dynasty to rule the country shoehorning his son into pole position. There's plenty of well heeled Pakistani expats who are quite welcome to send donations if they so choose but nowt's coming out of my wallet.

When I was in Morrisons yesterday they had buckets on all the checkouts for the Pakistan Flood Fund. I must have missed the weekend when they had them out for the Hull/Toll Bar and Tewkesbury floods

I went to the library and asked  'Which of your encyclopaedias covers Pakistan?'

Librarian: 'H to O'

Complaints this morning about how donations are only a "fraction" of monies given to previous disaster appeals. How much of a fraction do they mean? 1/10th, 1/2th or even 99/100ths ~ they're all fractions after all.

I understand that the BNP are contributing to the Pakistani Relief Appeal Fund.

They sent 6000 crocodiles.

Pakistan's neighbour India has offered to help with flood relief by sending thousands of towels.

It's all they could think of off the top of their heads.

Bringing this back on track, ahem, I've been stewing on an aspect of this the whole week when an email read out on PM (R4) just now captured it exactly.
Earlier in the week a BBC news reporter from the region mentioned Pakistan was such a poor country ...

And the email, to paraphrase, "How can Pakistan, a nuclear armed country (and all that implies) have the audacity to ask for aid for its beleaguered people?"

 noooo:
