I know that is the end of 'stuff' Growler but for me I do take delight in pickling stuff growing and harvesting stuff and then making stuff, no autumn no food to see you through the winter in a nutshell if you will pardon the pun.

Blackberries round here are still flowering ~ not a berry to be had yet.

Still we have made Strawberry Jam, Raspberry Jam and Blackcurrant Jam ..... Oh and found a large (kilo) jar of Blackberry and apple jam, left from last year, at the back of the store cupboard.

Bugger the Sloe Gin ~ have you tried it with Vodka? We have a couple of litres we "laid down" three years ago. Should be 'bout ready come Christmas.

If I had had containers with me this morning I could have gathered blackberries, plums and cooking apples.  However, I didn't.   noooo:  There was even a squirrel!  whistle:

Hedgehogs are better...bit of garlic and ginger, chili flakes...Method...

1. Cut the hedgehog into 4cm pieces and set aside. Heat oil in a wide saucepan or wok. Add the onions and cook until softened and lightly browned, about 6–8 minutes. Stir in the ginger, garlic and chillies and fry for 2–3 minutes. Add cumin, coriander, turmeric, chilli powder and curry leaves and fry for a further minute. Season the hedgehog with salt and pepper and add to the pan. Fry, stirring, for 2–3 minutes on each side, until golden brown all over.

2. Tip chopped tomatoes into the pan, pour in water and bring to the boil. Stir well, lower the heat and put the lid on. Let simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the mixture becomes too dry and starts to stick to the bottom of the pan, add a little more water and stir well.

3. Stir in garam masala and cook, uncovered, for a further 10 minutes. Serve garnished with coriander leaves and accompanied by pilau rice, plain basmati rice or warm Indian breads

I was sent this recently...

GOW - I have to be a bit leary on here. I first joined as "Captivebolt" and I was admittedly IN YER FACE about shooting. I like the site, and now keep schtum about some aspects of my approach to wild life. I shoot foxes, rabbits, pest birds, tree rats, and antis. Whoops, only joking.
I wouldn't dream of catching a hedgepig, cutting its throat to let it bleed out, gutting it, packing the body cavity with sliced apples, sage, and onion, wrapping it in 2 inches of clay, putting it in the bottom of a firepit, having a bonfire then leaving it to bake in the embers. If when I lifted it out with a stick, whacked the clay with a rock and split it open, stripped the meat out and it smelled wonderful, I would of course throw it away and grass meself up to the ArsePac.
They are better eating earlier in the year. They build up body fat during the summer and taste greasy later on. Spring is best. (Hedgies, not Arsepac)
Not that I'd know of course.

Ric

I would give it a go. redface:
